This makes me so jealous of show bands so much, my marching band is a parade band and I’ve always been jealous that I have to march bells, but synth cams awaken something in me
hey im in highschool marching band, its my first year (though ima sophomore) and im planning on doing band in college and or trying out for this type of stuff. this year i played the synth for our show (planning on doing it for my next 2 years) and any also other percussion instrument for gigs (bass drum as my main). i had a question, what can i do to be prepared if i wanna do synth for in the future. vids like these make me realize how not that good i am at piano and the synth so i wanna learn how to get better for the future. (ive also played piano for years now, but never professionally.) pls help lol, you look really good at it.
hey! super appreciate your kind words, biggest advice i have for synth is to get super familiar with the technology aspect early on. mainstage 3 is the primary program that most groups use and having a basic understanding of how that works is super valuable to staff members looking to contract you. in terms of actually playing the instrument, try and build a super defined interpretation of rhythm. something to help this would be practicing your drumline’s exercises and then applying those rhythms to a scale on the keyboard. definitely let me know if you have any other questions!!
i forgot which patch exactly but both the top lead line and the midrange aggressive bass thing are found within omnisphere, maybe something along the lines of “smooth analog lead”? i’ll get access to the mainstage files again in january so i can definitely update you then, hope this helps!
