Along with Avatar the Last Airbender, Legend of Korra, and Legend of Vox Machina, this is in my favorite American produced animated shows of all time to date. Getting to watch y'all enjoy it as well is a delight. Thank u for what u do.
yeah.. this is a tough episode. I though we were seeing exactly how dark Mizu is and how much she will compromise to reach her goal in this episode (basically kill an innocent in a bad place)... but still has line (wont kill indiscriminantly just because its easier).. so we've established her baseline morality... and now see how it goes when tested (in the next episodes...)
I hope you can check FX's SHOGUN. it is based on a book which was also based on real life historical people and events, was made a tv series in the 80s. it is set almost a few decades before The Blue Eyed Samurai. it is a masterpiece. political and a real life game of chess ala GOT.
I heard someone on another reaction mention what they thought the sign the girl signed to Mizu meant "No, I do not trust you" because Mizu is looking like a man. And the girl do not trust men, because of her father, and probably that Boss guy.
This work is "Japan as imagined by foreigners," so most Japanese people have no interest in it and don't want to see it. The creators don't even know the difference between Japan and China, and they mix them up.
Uhhhh..... going to have to disagree? The show isn't a billion percent accurate but no show is. It handles Japanese things with love and care. And my Japanese friends (Tokyo denizens, both) are the ones who recommended it to me, so while there might be some western-ness in the framing, I don't think your characterization fits the reality of it?
May I ask why are you saying this? this isn't "japan as viewed by foreigners" its an historical fiction based on real events that happened about 400 years ago - as the show takes place in the early years of the edo period of japan. Sure there are no records of blue eye samurai because thats their own fictional character. Yet, from the little historical Information I had before I watched the show, I thought they did pretty damn well. later I checked interviews in which was explained the research they did - down to details of the way Asami walks, apparently. Granted, its not perfect - its still fiction after all. Again, Im not completely sure what you mean. The show in no way shape or form tries to depict modern japan. But, if you have found historical inaccuracies, consider me curious about them.
