I've noticed that every blue heeler with aggression problems is always out of shape. That's what people don't get about these dogs. If you don't give them proper exercise, they're always going to be bad.

He is Beautiful! Our Blue Heeler is now almost 8 yrs old. We had no idea what he was when he was dropped on our door step @ about 7 wks old so we did not know that with any cattle dog or Heeler it is extremely important to socialize them early in life. We've since learned and have long since corrected his "tude" lol but to this day, if I'm home alone and someone he doesn't know should knock on our door, my curtains and or blinds are deconstructed in mere seconds. He is so loyal and loving & is my shadow 24/7/365. It's a love like no other 💘 he might try to eat the delivery man but with all 4 of our grandchildren, he is a soft old teddy bear. 🐻

My Blue Heeler has a big backyard to run all day. She loves going around our trees shooing birds picking on our fruit trees, patrolling the front yard. On rainy days she doesn’t run around much. After a day or two with no exercise, she will start misbehaving and getting very nippy. She gets a little crazy. These dogs need a looot of exercise and mental stimulation. Playing fetch lets them let out their high prey drive. I use oval-shaped balls so they bounce erratically. Those are her favorite. They are not exactly indoor-type dogs.

I raised the Blue Heelers and they are what is called a herd dog a varmint dog, they don't like to be turned on up on their belly because that leaves them weak open to threat open to kill there are certain traits that a Blue Heeler takes on to protect himself to train the dog you have to understand why he acts the way he does, the Healer loves to play fetch but don't pull the ball away from them hold one hand up above their head and say drop it when they drop it then say stay take your left hand grab the ball tell the dog to stay in your right hand hold it above his head let him watch it and while you're throwing it with your arm extended in front of your head say fetch, do not say the word fetch until you have released the ball, Blue Heelers are highly intelligent dogs, they are also very protected dogs, they will also pick out one person that they love the most and be more obedient to that person they like one boss, if you get a Blue Heeler puppy the first thing you want to train him is the word no combine that with the word stop, they are good listeners and very very intelligent, if you give a dog a plastic shoe to chew on for a toy then they will chew on a shoe for a toy, if you give a dog a rope to chew on then he will chew on lead ropes ropes boy, these are just some tips, if you happen to get a Blue Heeler from the pound you have to start all over with training but keep in mind do not try to turn the dog over Blue Heelers when confronted with someone that has treated them bad hardly ever trust again

I have a 7wk old Blue Heeler pup and I am so worried she will end up like this, just because I've heard of a lot of Heelers being dog aggressive and nipping at kids heels. What's the best way to keep a puppy from becoming human and dog aggressive? She is being raised with my cat, so I think she'll be okay with cats.

Hi Rachel, I adopted a red Heeler from the shelter a few months ago at 7mo. She was abused and had never been in a house. I waited for her to adjust and feel secure and started puppy classes. She was so shy, and by the end of our session, she warmed up. She's not friendly with anyone else, but she stays to herself and close to me, but not being aggressive. A huge difference in her demeanor in a controlled environment. I'm continuing with the classes, and she pulled me into our last lesson; she loved the training. Enjoy your pup!

We have had our dog for about 2 months. Super sweet and fun. He really has been a great dog. Even lays in his crate when he isnt waking around or hanging out with us. One rare day he pooped in the house so I put him in his cage. As I lightly pushed his butt to get him in he growled at me. That he has never done. I closed the cage and went about my day. Then let him out a couple of hours later. A week later he gets REALLY agitated anytime I go near the cage. Today I went to get his toys to play with him. His toys were near the cage. I pointed at the toys and said get your toy. He bit my hand! Thats never happened. If he bites my wife this may be the time to get rid of him. I yell NO and he has been sitting in his crate since. Hopefully we can get him some training and get it out. This is my first dog as an adult at 52.
@woofy548
@woofy548 5 лет назад
Dont use the crate as punishment, they dont understand that. Your dog isnt mean, he thinks he's running things. He doesn't respect you. Just like a dog that growls at another dog over a toy. You just need to start working with the dog to develop some trust and respect.

Heather Carson that's not "protective" your dog is possessive. That's not a good thing to have those issues at such a young age. Its a sign of insecurity.
@heathercarson5881
@heathercarson5881 7 лет назад
Top Dog obedience when you say he is insecure would you mind explaining a little bit more. he is very friendly with people is only when I'm around he gets that way. he has never been abused and the breeder I got Luke from was a very loving dog owner. I'm just wondering what would make a spoiled puppy like that and at such a young age?
@woofy548
@woofy548 7 лет назад
Heather Carson Its hard saying what caused it. But a what I mean by insecurity is, your dog is basically resource gaurding you. the same way a dog will guard a bowl of food. You need to teach your dog to relax away from you and around other people. Teach the dog a "place" command, somewhere where it goes and stays there (its own space). Have people approach the dog when its not by you and make it a positive experience. Then slowly incorporate yourself with other people.

I have a 5 year old blue heeler, unfortunately we did not know about the early socialization which is why she is very aggressive with dogs. She’s just fine with people but any dog she wants to attack. Given her age, do you think it’s something we could fix still? I’d love to take her out to public places but I can’t
@woofy548
@woofy548 5 лет назад
She'll probably never be a dog that wants to play with other dogs. You can, however , make the dog be compliant around other dogs. The longer they are made to obey around other dogs , the less the urge of attacking will want to surface.

I need some help please... if anyone walks by the house she lunges towards the fence and has almost taken the gate out, she’ll bite the fence when people walk by and I really can’t take her anywhere... anything I can begin to do ? Should I get her a muzzle and try to socialize her?
@woofy548
@woofy548 6 лет назад
Alejandro Hernandez its a long process. Try to make all encounters as positive as possible. Start at long distances and gradually move closer. Its almost to much for me to type out. I would use a muzzle around people and dogs to avoid a disaster. Work basic obedience in public , move slow, dont overwhelm him with pressure.

My 7 year old Blue Heeler displays the same "bite face" side eye/tense behavior when strangers try to pet him, he gets real close and acts like he wants to be pet, but he is tense and shows the bite face with mouth closed or even teeth shown sometimes. I watched your other videos with this dog and he seemed to really warm up to you, is he still nasty with strangers though? Our dog is very good with my wife and I, and even a neighbor of ours, but strangers and a few other neighbors he is very tense around. We tell everyone to ignore him when they first come over, however, no one listens :(. He also goes nuts at the doorbell, there is even a swiffer commercial that starts with a doorbell that sets him off something fierce, I'm going to try the technique you showed in your doorbell video. Thanks a bunch!!!
@woofy548
@woofy548 7 лет назад
Jc C this dog has made huge improvements around strangers. If your dog has a high food drive, keep some kibble by the door and have strangers toss some food on the ground around him. This will distract his tension and see strangers as a positive thing. I have another video showing how i desensitize dogs to doorbells.
@woofy548

some dogs will never get over their aggression towards other dogs. the best way is to train a rock solid recall and a down command. when other dogs approach you , tell him to come and lay down. A dog is alot less dominant in a down position

He goes full apeshit and lunges amd drools amd tries as hard as he can to escape the harness and bite whoever he is upset at. I mistakingly took him to tractor supply and the cashier approached to ring my stuff up on cart. And whem she got close. He went ballistic. @maribelz.7306 5 лет назад
I'm not a dog trainer, or anything like that. I just have my own Red Heeler and I'm going to tell you what worked for us. With the separation anxiety I recommend ignoring them whenever you come home from work, or coming home from a "long day". Never leave your dog without properly tiring them, or leaving them behind with an excited mind. With the jealousy thing, practice doing a sit/ stay and make sure that he knows that his jealousy behavior is unacceptable. If he does not know sit/ stay, maybe have someone else hold him back with a sit and you go and enjoy other dogs. Jealous dogs are insecure dogs, so maybe build up his confidence around other dogs. And this is the best advice anyone has ever told me, "A tired dog is a good dog". Hope this helps!

So, Heelers are known for Aggression and Protecting, Herding can be a mix of both Attributes and taken as "Attacking". That being said, why do you people buy them and try to turn them into something they are not? Just because you like the look of them? Seems a little selfish, no? I have a Pack of 5 Blue Heelers, they work. They Protect my House and Property. I do no Scold them for being EXACTLY what they are bred to be. They are amazing pets, one of a kind. I wouldn't own another dog breed but people need to know what they are buying. Heelers are VERY underrated and misunderstood I think. They are not a House/Apartment Dog or a Dog Park Breed. If you train them to just be docile and inactive all the time you are essentially breaking their spirit and instinct. Pretty sad to see really, not fair to them.

Terriffic dogs, but not dogs for everybody. One thing I don't like seeing is how popular they are becoming with town folks and first time owners. Popularity has ruined a bunch of otherwise great breeds. I am hating seeing the Heeler go that way. I've had them for most of my adult life , but my first five dogs weren't Heelers. Not to say they can't be a first dog, but you're really rollin' the dice.

Heeler have a very strong urge to heel/herd animals, and having two heelers myself, and three cats, I've found it's impossible to get rid of that urge. However! It is not impossible to teach them to fight that urge! I have a heeler and a kitten who both live mostly in the same room and get along fine. I trained the dog that chasing/standing over the cat was bad behavior, and that displaying submissive behavior toward the cat was good behavior. Basically put her in her place by feeding cat before her, saying no when she chased her or approached her in a non-submissive manner, etc. It took some work, but now they are very close, sometimes gently play with each other, catch bugs as a team, etc. And if the cat isn't feeling it, she will display negative behavior and heeler will leave her alone! So yes! But it takes training. And it also depends on the individual, some dogs have a higher prey drive. (But remember herding and hunting aren't the same! Herd = chase/catch/control, hunt = chase/potentially kill)

There are two people that he absolutely loves for some reason and another who he hates and still will bite. The two people he loves are total opposites my father who's like 84 and my brother's ex-girlfriend who's like a blond cute chick kind of like the one took care of him at the pound, I'm thinking he hates my brother because my brother owns a 90% wolf he probably smelled that wolf on him and they say wolves and coyotes or the ones who are tearing them up out in the wilderness. But also my brother is quite Shady so I think maybe he's just a good judge of character and that part but why would he loved those two people so much. He even lets my dad pick him up if I pick him up he bites me still. Why does he trust those two people and not me and I'm the one who saved him and feed him and trained him? Even when those two people are over that he likes he steals always concerned with where I'm at and wants to be by me or know where I'm at I can't figure this dog out
@woofy548
@woofy548 5 лет назад
John Smithllc dogs don't rationalize like people do. They don't understand that you saved him. They don't understand the meaning of "saved". Alot of it is your energy around him and some of it is trust. Nobody can tell you why a dog trusts certain people and not others. If he goes to bite you and you show fear, he just lost trust in you. Dogs don't trust someone they percieve as weak. Not saying you're weak at all. I've trained dogs for professional UFC fighters and thier dogs didn't trust them. If your dog acts aggressive toward you Don't do anything. Don't correct him, don't back away, don't show any emotion. Just stand your ground and don't move. With this dog in the video, I kept the muzzle on him and kept petting him even if he tried to bite. I showed no fear or emotion.

@@woofy548 Yes! You sum it up well. If some of the ACDs in they USA throw back to what we call in Australia the Queensland Blue he will have more "Dingo" in him. That makes him a bit more solitary and he will not bark. He has a life of his own. Will not be looking for attention all the time. A bit frightening. I worked as a Valuer in Rural areas. I could never work it out in the seconds you have got. Sometimes the stern voice will assert your authority. Not always. Just ignore sometimes. Ignore and hold your hand up palm out like with an agressive person to calm them. Often these dogs would be very loyal to there owners or say the husband and not the wife. That showing no fear is the hard part. They can smell it. They all seem to be very good with children. I still got caught once. Got into the house yard ignoring him and knocked on the door. Nobody home. I had forgotten about him. Thought I had control. No! He would not let me out. A typical Queensland Blue. I tried everything and he kept getting closer. I could not get him to back down. Then fear hit me. There was a low tank stand. I turned and jumped up on it. The only time a Queensland Blue has beat me. I just sat there with a lump of Steel in my hand. He simply would not back off. Thats Queensland Blue. Cunning! They will back off temporarily even with Wild Cattle head on but it is only a ploy. Nothing to see them dance and dash sideways with a wild Bull with horns coming at them. Stupid Bull. They then come back in and snap a good bite on the back heel. I am certain that is the equivalent of what that one did to me that day. I got him to back down on the way in but he had not really backed off. Made a strategic retreat and when my back was turned put into action Plan B. I sat on that Tank Stand for over an hour until the owner came home. The useless bastard should put a lock on the gate. I was not the first one he had done it too The no fear works but I lost it that day. I had fear. I have never seen a True Queensland Blue take anything on head on. Saw one at a neighbours place finally get fed up with an annoying German Sheperd. All over in a few seconds. The Blue pretended to face him down front on. The Shepherd went in front on. The Blue sort of skipped around and went sideways and away and came back in and whack bit the Shepherds back leg. End of fight. A three legged Shepherd is not very effective. Over $1,000 at the Vet for the Shepherd owner. Broken leg in two places.

Top Dog obedience absolutely agree, however I do not agree with you on the bred for fighting there is no Gene that you can breed for fighting if you go on my Facebook page Dawn's Paws for pits is not or you can go on my web page it's still under construction it's www.dawnspawsforpits.com,y behavioral specialist Kathy Canyon she is a certified by the AKC she wrote an article and she published it on my web page on Facebook and if you will go and read it she goes into great detail on pit bulls and on the scientific and studies that has been done on the genes of Michael Vick's dogs there is no genetic markers that has been able to be bred into dogs in the Pitbull berries or any others for fighting it is talked just like in German Shepherds poodles and it is a nature noun when you get into the American pitbull terriers in the way that they were bred they were bred for hog hunting and any dog by nature is going to hunt in packs and that's the reason why they will kill just like your Blue Heelers they're hurting animals my pitbulls have been taught to go and ride horses with us I can tell my girls go get them up here they'll go down to the bottom of the pasture they'll bring those horses up here without nipping at their feet they do not bite pasterns they do not lame up horses just like you have blue heelers are herding animals my best friend has a blue heeler it goes on sassy goes on rides with us she gets along perfectly fine with my pitbulls Snooki and Roxi Anne they run with the horses and we all have a happily trip nobody fights and it is a don't act is the way you raise them you can rehabilitate a pitbull I have done it many many times I have placed several pit bulls with veterans that have post traumatic stress syndrome and I have placed Pit Bulls that I have trained as service dogs with some with one veteran that was in a wheelchair and needed a service dog that could open doors that needed assistance with picking items up and I just so happened myself to be disabled and I need assistance with getting help when I fall and I pass out I've had three Strokes I raised my service dog from five weeks old I also rescued her from a fighting ring she was bred for fighting she don't fight and I can validate what I'm telling you through my veterinarian I love Blue Heelers and I'm not putting down anything you're saying actually I agree with your way of doing things I think what you're doing is wonderful I was just saying I'm so happy that I found you in your videos because I think that it's wonderful because actually I would like to be able to bounce ideas off of you to prove that pit bulls are not as bad as they are labeled we are fighting a ban legislation I don't know if you realize that and it's not fair to them what humans have done and I'm trying to do the same thing you are I just wondered if we could work together

Top Dog obedience the difference between Blue Heelers and pit bulls are that pit bulls can be rehabilitated pretty much as soon as they are taken from the shelters because they are so thankful to be out they do have some aggression towards other dogs I agree however you can rehabilitate them and I have two right here now that have been rehabilitated from aggression toward each other not to mention several others I have rehabilitated so the sideways comment you made about the problem you have with pit bulls and aggression with humans that that ain't even a comment to be making right now with the ban legislation that we are dealing with because the Blue Heelers could easily be thrown right in there with it and as long as I am making progress with the pitbulls and others are as well you should be happy for us I am certainly happy for you I didn't make any comments for you to think for one minute that I'm not and I apologize to you to the fullest extent if you thought that I did I think you're doing a wonderful job and if you are too arrogant or maybe your heads in the cloud or whatever that you don't feel you owe me an apology will so be it I wish you the best

Heelers don't like strangers period they don't trust strangers my Red Heeler is 2 now he has been socialize since his birth and still is wary of strangers or people petting him. Once he gets to know you he is fine...Heelers are not for the timid, They are stubborn and hard headed. I have a German Shepard and American Staffordshire Terrier or Pit and they were nowhere near as hard to train. They are big babies really and can't stand to be away from you, whoever said they aren't one person dog has not had one long enough. It's a bond that is crazy sometimes. He has to be touching you or the other dogs when we're sitting or driving They really don't like their feet touched either. The best part of him he is so funny and has no boundaries with the other dogs they tolerate him though. The worst is a Heelers bark sometimes it's like a Chihuahua. It is high pitched and goes right up your spine if you're not expecting it. He is the smartest dog I've ever had. He learned to roll over in less than 2 min. I have to watch him around little kids even though he has been around them all his life. These dogs were bred for certain traits he reveals them at least wanted times....he is getting better with age BUT buyer beware they are a lot of work and devoted to you therefore you must reciprocate the love. Otherwise they will make you wish you had❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️. P.S. They climb trees too hee hee

Becca Becca I have red heeler now too he was crazier than hell when I got him because he was a rescue. He has been living in the woods for a year by himself being attacked by coyotes and wolves. I was wondering if you had found that the red Heelers are little bit crazy compared to Blue Heelers cuz I've had a couple it seems like all the red ones I've had or seen have been completely cut KooKoo

Wow this dog really likes the alpha roll, i think he scertly likes you (of course i’m kidding ). Nothing has changed in this dog other than suppressing behaviour and thats not training or counterconditioning its a bunch of random and some dated and discredited theories.I love the muzzle but used as a submission tool and holding the dog on its side is ridiculous it’s terrified and can’t fight or flee which keeps the dog afraid and builds a rebound effect of behavior and no trust or security.It’s a cattle dog nothing in it’s dna is into strangers and pushing it into submission is a recipe for problems. “The dog is insecure and dominant “ I know your throwing out terms to label aggression but its silly a dominate dog is not insecure. It can’t be both, fear aggression isn’t the same as aggression and this dog is so distrustful already it’s unfair to except it to change into a dog loving, kid friendly and safe dog to let the mailman pet. It could be worked with as long as you work with its herding , guarding and attacking threats to it’s family. This isn’t ,meant as a personal insult but if you put up a dog training video you put the spotlight on something and its easy to see the problem.If it was helpful to that dog and its a well behaved and relaxed dog then you should be a huge success , unfortunately its not gonna happen.I like learning an adapting different exercises but they fit into a method not random tools and outdated myths, look at some other trainers and catch up on the science of training and the history of canids and it will make your job easier, more effective at changing behavior and build a better relationship

I'm definitely not "holding him down" I'm barely touching him. Watch the next video and you'll see a happy dog. This is not an Alpha roll. Not even close

This is not pure ACD. Not that they never have problems, but this is a mixed breed ... look at the coat. I've had documented issues with an ACD, but it's not normal. I don't know what happened before the dog came to me at 10 month old. This is a highly irresponsible video. This is in no way indicative of Australian Cattle Dogs.

You are probably correct. He is not true to the USA line of ACD dogs that have been bred. His build looks like what we in Australia call Queensland Blues. Bigger shoulders than the what has become known as the ACD. That dogs hair is longer also. They are a very mixed up breed in Australia. As I understand it originally there were three main lines bred along similar lines but slightly different. Personality comes back to the owner and the exact line. The Queensland Blue is not as tall normally with a blunt nose and really broad strong jaws and really strong broard shoulders. Walks with his head down more and only looks out through the sides of his eyes. If looking up tends to turn his eyes up. Not lift his head up. Virtually never barks. Not sure but maybe they have more of the Dingo in them. They are not about impressing and pleasing you as much as most dogs. A more suspicious dog. The ACD is bred the opposite to a big degree. The ones I talk about are the real heel biters. No beast no matter how big and wild will beat them. They never attack from the front. They pretend to confront the animal front on but that is just a ploy. The head on approach only lasts until the beast turns or they can slip to the side and then whack they bite the heel low down. They then instantly flatten there head on the ground so the inevitable kick from the wild bull or cow goes over the top of there head. They are real heelers. They are very mixed up in Australia. Most breeding was not done by breeders. The neighbour had a good dog you bought one of his pups. Two good dogs in an area they would try to mate them. There was none of the bullshit we get now. Nothing about looks. Are they good with wild cattle was all that mattered. If too vicious for say Dairy Cattle cross it with a Border Collie or Kelpie. I Queensland, Australia where I grew up most farms had a Blue or Blue cross. Generally all very wary dogs compared to the ACD I see in these videos. Not really agressive overall but you always watched them. Very loyal to the owner and family though. The ACD as marketed in the USA is overall more suited for Urban areas. Of course most are spoilt more. No Farm Dog gets in the house. Gets bathed. They get a bunk down at the shed. They get attention but not babied as much and they don't look for as much attention. That dog could have thrown back to those genes or its previous owners were not the best.
