Blue Heron Gets Snake 

It looks like a Southern Black Racer. Notice the immaculate white lips, chin, and throat, the charcoal gray underside, and the lack of any dark blue irridescense on the dorsal scales. It is also noticeably more slender than an Eastern Indigo Snake.

Damn, the snake got a vicious chomp in on that heron as well. What a fight

Great video! So I'm guessing the pretty and big snake was protected, but not so much from the heron's stomach! Does the poor prey lose the battle and get swallowed down alive?!

I love great blue herons. Such majestic birds. I've met them plenty. Hard not to when you live on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. I do believe from my vast experience with wildlife that the snake in this video is a Southern Black Racer, not a Black Indigo. For one, that snake was very fast for an indigo, and they usually have whites on their tips, unlike the Black Indigo, which is solid black with some dark grey. Side note: Why does this video have so many dislikes LOL

Black indigo's are soo rare here in florida-- our state protected snake-- should have thrown something at the heron-- they are so agressive meat eaters-- they eat beavers up north

It looks like the common Black Racer, not an Indigo. Its very thin with a pale belly, just like the one I has years ago.. By the way, I have never seen a Black Racer tamed down for a pet, they will gladly bite you...
