Wow! All of us at Blue Man Group are so grateful for the love around this video so far. Many of your comments have moved the entire company to tears and we love to hear your stories. This was one of the most fun and most musically challenging things we have done! To figure out how the Blue Man and Josh would perform this together on stage and what the Blue Man version of it would be in such an incredibly short amount of time took work from our entire NYC cast and crew. An example of what creative collaboration can do to create something magical. 💙 On behalf of Blue Man Group WE LOVE YOU! - Hailey Jester, Sr Social Media Manager
After seeing you pre Pandemic in Buffalo, this brought me to better times. Please thank the Men. And let these Blue men know I personally started feeling better watching this.
@@adriantrusca1245nah, as Quincy once said “there ara not good or bad genres there is only good or bad music” and this was a fun uplifting piece of performance and music
@@humanbean3 Woulda been funnier as a theater tech joke. A fly system, or theatrical rigging system, is a system of ropes, pulleys, counterweights and related devices within a theater that enables a stage crew to fly (hoist) quickly, quietly and safely components such as curtains, lights, scenery, stage effects and, sometimes, people.
@@4Realzeaz That would maybe make sense if there was a North American touring show right now, but there isn't, not that their shows would need such a targeted ad to sell tickets anyways. If you've watched a full show you know it's the kind of thing that will sell out by word of mouth alone. BMG has been around for many, many years now in both permanent and tour venues shows; with the sheer number of backing and touring musicians and technical support that have rotated over time, it's very reasonable that there are connections behind the scenes that allow a unique opportunity like this to happen.
@@dewitt.powers Yep, I want to say New York, Chicago, Las Vegas, and another big city have residencies. The Chicago location is a really cool little theater with all these lit up gizmos and sciencey props on the foyer walls. I got the chance to see a show there with my dad when we visited to see Pearl Jam at Wrigey Field, frickin awesome trip.
My middle school girlfriend and I met in Band class in the 7th grade, where our band director would often play clips of Blue Man Group. Her favorite band was My Chemical Romance. She took her life a few years later. This video was not a video I clicked on expecting to cry to, but I guess that's the power of music. Love you, Sophie.
Showed this to my wife, and it brought her to tears. Seeing the Blue Man Group was one of the last things she was able to do with her father before he took his own life back in 2000. Thank you, BMG!
The whole group was tight af. It's not easy for a drumline to play so tight but man they deliver. Of course the hidden inears help but still. Top notch players all of them.
It's pretty fucking insane isn't it. Its not perfect, but close to perfect. Which is absolutely wild if hes never heard the drum beat before. Guys like that must be gold standard as session drummers.
It's a skit. I refuse to dumb myself and not think the obvious as evidenced by their performance. EDIT: I mean it's great and all and very creative, but bruh, they somewhat knew this; it's obvious.
@@vitruviandrumsI'm pretty sure they send the track in advance and had to sign a slew of NDA's to not show any of the rehearsal takes or members talking 😂 Worth it though 👌🏻
@@waranghira You've already "dumbed yourself" because all music is set to specific timing structures. Match the timing, and you can make about anything in that time signature sound like it fits. Takes pros only moments to find that timing so it can easily be the first time. Also they get 3 takes not just 1 shot. Plus MCR is for emo kids and wannabe vampires so its not too far out that they haven't heard the song
I once went to a Pride Parade in Boston where the Blue Men were in attendance. It was a ripping hot day, with sweltering sunshine, and as we were lining up to march, I was seeking relief in the shadow of one of those high-rise open window buses they use for sightseeing. Suddenly I felt drops of water on me, and as I looked up, a Blue Man was leaning out of the window gently drizzling me with bottled water. I couldn't help but crack up, and I did appreciate the cooling.
My dad was a drummer, and I remember he ordered one of the first Blue Man Group performances on pay per view in the late nineties or early 2000s. Fast forward years later, and because of my interest in the band he becomes enamored with The Black Parade due to it being a concept album, which he loved because of bands like Queen. I sorely wish he could see this performance now. It moved me to tears, with how it exemplified how beautiful drums can be.
This has to have been the most uplifting experience in creation of any video you've done thus far. This was amazing on so many levels, and emotional on even more. My god what a performance, through and throughout. Beyond words, i'm smiling from ear to ear typing this, it was stellar.
I met one of the BMG living here in manhattan, I'm sworn to secrecy on a lot of their inner workings but they are MASTERS at improv comedy, I love them
Yooo your take of lincoln park was so good, to this day I'm not sure I believe you never heard "numb" before. The way you hit the symbol on "end up failing too!" was so perfect! you are awesome!
I had the privilege of being on the local crew for a show in Ohio a few years ago, been working shows for 20 years and you guys are among the best professionals I have ever had the opportunity to work with. Simply superb and unforgettable. Also was amazed at how quick everything was clean especially after Mr. Mister. Lol
@@idontcare2851 Sure, maybe they heard it, but when was the last time? If you were randomly presented a song without a drum track and told to create a drum track to it, do you think you’d be able to recreate something close to the original? Lol
Just when you think the song couldn't get any better or more iconic, The Blue Man Group comes in to surprise the world, yet again. Oh how I wish I could be there to here it in person. The reverberation of the bass and the changing of the lights throughout the entire performance just never get fully represented through video. I've seen y'all multiple times before, and now this makes me want to see y'all again, ESPECIALLY if this song is incorporated into the show. Bravo to the cast and the crew! There truly is no experience quite like the Blue Man Group experience
This was incredible. I have an amazing memory with the Blue Man Group and my father. It was 2015 in Orlando and we bought the cheapest tickets possible at the very last minute because it was storming and there was nothing else to do on our first night on vacation. We were the only people seated in the last row and as a result, the house wanted to pull the back curtain up one row. They offered us to come sit in the front row instead and gave us ponchos since we would now be in the splash zone! What proceeded was the most incredible evening of paint, percussion, and passion!!! An amazing troupe
Man, one of my fondest childhood memories was seeing the blue man group in Orlando and meeting one of them who not only gave me a blue thumb print on my face but also gave me the painting they made during the show for my birthday. I still have it on my wall at least 15 years later and will always have appreciation for all of the joy they've brought me!
"Learn the rules like a pro, so you can break them like an artist." This quote perfectly encapsulates the journey of a drummer. As drummers, we start by mastering the fundamentals-timing, rhythm, and technique. These are the rules that guide us, ensuring that we provide the backbone of any musical ensemble. But the true magic happens when we move beyond the basics. Once we’ve internalized the rules, we gain the freedom to experiment, innovate, and create something entirely our own. It’s in those moments of breaking the rules-whether it’s an unexpected fill, a syncopated rhythm, or a creative use of dynamics-that we elevate drumming from a skill to an art form.
Was on my bucket list for years to see the blue man group live. Took the wife on a surprise trip to Orlando many years ago and she surprised me in turn with tickets to a show. During set up the staff happened to ask us if we wanted to be a part of the show as the “late arrivals” and I nearly had a heart attack. Easily one of the most amazing nights of my life. Can’t wait to take the kids to see them one day.
That is a good story. Best gifts are the thoughtful ones and yours led to one of those memories that standout when you reflect. Thanks for sharing. This video has put them on my bucket list now.
This song was my anthem in high school. It and the black parade helped me through some of my hardest times. When I was unable to cry for help this song and album was there for me. It's an album that holds a lot of weight for me.. And I'm glad to still see it and hear it years later. It's a vital song for every broken home kid who never had a friend or family who was there. But this album carried a lot of the broken kids who've grown up now into adulthood.
I dunno. One of the thoughts this brought up in me is roughly: "the fuck am I even doing with my life?". So definitely brings joy, but possibly also raises some harder questions and brings a bit of sorrow too.
I think it feels like that because they edited out all the takes in favor of the Blue Man sketches. The kit drummer had definitely never heard of them.
One of my favourite Drumeo videos ever - I can't believe we've already got a bizarre format-stretching fever dream episode of this series when it still feels so young!
God bless your Micing/Mixing/Mastering Team on this one. You can hear just how much of a struggle it was to get everything at proper levels to pop and then to (somehow) sneak the recorded track underneath all of it while still keeping the energy of the live "room" performance. That was a feat.
@@bluemangroup the fact that you/your team are actively partaking in the comment section is really cool. Aside from expression, one of the key goals of music, and art in general, is interaction (as far as I'm concerned). To extend the discussion beyond the art in a way that isn't overbearing is really fun and adds to the immersion of what you present.
It must be a heck of a challenge, but, there were whole sections of the performance that basically made no sound at all. 90% of the time I was saying "I want to hear the sounds the blue men are making!"
@@MattsAwesomeStuff You can definitely hear the engineer working through the challenges. Id imagine that recording a famously "live" percussion ensemble in a recording studio that you arent completely familiar with in support of a channel that is also outside if tgeir home base.... That we got a relatively decent mix throughout is testament to some hard work.
Wow. I literally clapped when they finished. I was lucky enough to see The Blue Man Group in about 2000 or 2001. I'm 39 years old now, and it's still one of my favorite life experience
Came here to say this. Alot if this seemed practiced and choreographed and I don't care in the slightest this was awesome. I would love to see blue man group do something like this with other famous drummers. Paint them red or yellow or some other color and throw them into a live set totally unknown no talking just vibing on the spot
Exactly, this was brilliant. And while I think it was genuine in that they only heard the drumless track something on the board they brought out at you see at 5:32 suggests someone may have at least recognised the band, or it was a cheeky thing they filmed after and inserted :)
With the blue man group, there is no way to get a real blue man experience on a live first reaction to a song. This feels like a representation of what their behind the stage process of Blue Man-ing a song would turn into with short notice. It doesn’t take away from the magic of re-imagining this song and using it in a way to connect in a different way. This is about drummers of all kinds coming together to appreciate music across the spectrum genres and styles. Blue Man Group inspired my love for music and percussion because they brought a childlike spirit to something that felt super serious and unattainable. I love this performance and the creative to make this happen. Thank you!
Taking my family to see the Blue Man Group here in the UK in a couple weekends, will be my children's first EVER live music concert and my first BMG one... Can't wait!!!
@@russellward4624 Probably not, they're not a group with a fixed line up anymore. Think of them like a troupe that consists of different performers depending on the location.
@@russellward4624There were three original “Blue Men” but now there are many “Blue Men” that perform in multiple productions at any given time. When they go on the road they tour with four so they can take nights off. I’m not certain if the og three still put on the paint anymore but, they probably still involved.
@@russellward4624No the first of the original 3 sold his shares and left in 2010 the other two sold their shares and left in 2017. They had been training understudies since 93 to the point where there were 10 total including the original 3 and they would perform at different locations around the world simultaneously. Basically what started out as a performance art piece by 3 friends at the end of the 80s, became a very corporate and structured business model and so all 3 eventually left
@@malfeitor1They are not the original three all sold their shares and left with at least one saying he felt he’d become too corporate. Which isn’t surprising as the original performance was them in blue masks burning a rambo doll and a piece of the Berlin Wall in Manhattan while leading a procession. That’s a pretty big difference from the modern blue man group
Oh my god, I had the BIGGEST grin on my face the whole way through their performance. Though I have a hunch they've heard the song before, I don't care: that was SO MUCH FUN! I didn't know I needed this, but thank you--it's been a rough week, and that just made my day.
I don’t think a lot of people realize that the Blue Man Group is a rock group as opposed to just a weird live performance. I loved their album The Complex!
I will always have a soft spot in my heart for Blue Man Group. Before my dad passed away he loved them and took me to see them twice in Vegas and Once in Florida. So any time I see them I think of him thank you for always putting on an amazing performance.
If you are reading this and have not seen Blue Man Group live, consider this your sign. I cannot express how much you NEED to see this show in person. SUPPORT THIS SHOW!!!!
I hope I get to see them perform someday. I remember being fascinated by them when I was a lil kid in the 90s when my parents took me to the Luxor hotel in LV
What an honor and privilege that had to have been to be involved with the Blue Man Group let alone watching them do something to another bands song and making it their own. That is something to cherish for the rest of your life!
A testament to how well-written the entire song is. The different parts fit together so well that even when a part is missing, the most fitting way to fill in that gap is pretty close to the original. While modern bands and music artists don't have anywhere near the same complexity as a full orchestra, they're effectively doing what composers do.
I don't really think this was the first time he's hearing it, along with the BMG doing amazing, and the lights work going also in sync with the song, i think thos one was stage , but who cares it was so great!
@@Jorgeinlan Would you even try to let it be true? I've grown up with MCR since ca. 2007 and I am loving them very much: I don't think it's a great feat to give the musicians credit for their skills and admit to yourself that it's not impossible that the drummers haven't heard the songs because there are so many great artists and tastes are different. Not having heard songs by well-known bands does not automatically mean that you have never heard of the band.
@@Birkenstock_UltraFor real though, meeting musicians over and over again really solidifies how much music there really is. I've heard of tons of bands by just seeing their name somewhere or hearing others talking around me, and sometimes it'll be years before I hear one of their songs because I either forgot to remind myself or was just busy otherwise.
I saw the blue man group on a class trip to Boston back in the 90s and that performance stuck with me to this day. The release of creativity they bring to the world is so amazing.
Tobias really has come a long way from his Dr. Fünke's 100% Natural Good-Time Family Band Solution days. Never heard an analyst therapist sound that good
I found out a few years ago that I have synesthesia. Growing up, I just thought everyone could see the colors that music conjured up in my mind. Turns out that is not the case for most people. Well, at the end of the video, when they start drumming in the dark with the paint added in, is the closest thing I have ever seen in real life to what I see in my head. Thanks, Drumeo and Blue Man Group, for connecting with someone who thought they were just a freak.
This was hands down of the best drumeo video of all time. The output not only blew my mind, but it was soo good that I might have teared up a bit. What a bloody amazing rendition of MCR :')
Wow! Drumeo, I'm a 41 year old living on a small island in the Canadian Arctic. Have been feeling down lately. I loved BMG back in the day. Watching this collaboration between you two made my month and brought some much needed happiness to me tonight. Thanks you so much! Been a big fan of the 'hearing for the first time' series, however, this one was mind blowing!
I'm at a loss for words, there's something so beautifully evocative of the human spirit in their performance, and in how they interpret art and entertainment. A true celebration of what makes life incredible.
I was smiling ear to ear the whole time. I suspect a couple of them knew the song but they definitely just decided to do their own interpretation of it. Maybe they could add this to their show now.
2003 as a kid in a Small Chicago Theater right up front, the Blue Man Group was a genuinely life changing experience, covered in paint, paper, (I still have the Blue Hand Prints on that T-shirt 20years later) Never again has a musical performance been more powerful and revolutionary in my young life… Thank you to all the Blue Man for continuing your craft, it is amazing. Wow what a nostalgic trip this video has been 🥲. ❤
@@louisgonzalez9489 Theater Trip, it was right before they became Nationally Famous, when we tried to go again a month later it was a 4week wait list on tickets, and even then we got less than half we were on the list for so had to lottery who got to go on the second trip… BUT man even the second time seeing it was not half the sheer experience of having no idea what to expect, absolutely wild.
My partner took me to see Blue Man Group in 2018 as a surprise on my birthday. Looking back, it was one of the best experiences I've had, even though I didn't feel like going out anywhere originally. I've never felt so uncomfortable, yet at ease in public. That was friggin beautiful. I'm so glad you brought them on for this. I absolutely loved watching them work again!
Very similar experience for me too, my wife took me also for bday, I'm not one for crowds or events most of the time, like I want to go but also don't lol. She got front row mid seats and told me to wear things I didn't care about or could be cleaned easily. I'm fairly fastidious, but I've never been more happily covered in marshmallow, banana cream and chocolate syrup in my life!! 🤣🤣🤣
I'll never forget being an audience member as a teen at one of their Vegas shows and actually being selected to go on stage by one of them along with a young lady. For her, they threw marshmallows at each other from far away, caught them with their mouths, then basically regurgitated them onto a spike on a hat they put on her head. 😅 For me, they gave me a large plain light blue shirt to wear over my outfit, threw (edible) paintballs at each other, caught them with their mouths, then sprayed the paint onto the shirt with their mouths, creating quite an interesting art piece! The paint got on my jacket too, but hey, it just added a bit of personality to it. I still have a photo of my time on that stage; I didn't smile much back then being an angsty teen, but I very much enjoyed my time with them and will forever cherish that memory. ❤
I had a very similar experience as a teenager at one of their Vegas shows. They were walking on the armrests of peoples chairs, standing directly above sitting people, and one of them saw me wearing a Zildjian hat and came over. He gave me three marshmallow balls then walked maybe 10 feet away and motioned me to throw them into his mouth lol. I got 2/3 balls! After I sat back down he came over, grabbed my hand, and opened his mouth and dropped the marshmallow balls right into my hand. They are one heck of an experience to see in person lmao.
That was quite possibly one of the best things I've ever seen on RU-vid! Bar none. I had so much fun and was so delighted and taken outside of my normal daily thoughts that I see this as a massive gift. The crew did such a great job covering this which I'm sure was no easy feat. And you obviously supported the Blue Man group to let their imaginations carry theml away. A huge feat for what you're working with. I sure hope this inspires a partner, with deep pockets and love for music and art, to give you all the resources you need to do bigger better things like this. Thank you guys so much! Rock on Drumeo
Fun fact time: Tim Alexander from Primus was in Blue Man Group in Vegas back in the early 2000’s. He’s always been my biggest influence as a drummer & since at the time he was no longer in Primus I HAD TO GO see the show. Needless to say, It blew my freakin mind! Even got a picture with him & Blas Elias out in the lobby after the show. Love BMG & long live Herb the Ginseng Drummer!
@@AdamKaris-sc4pj yeah man. Blas played with BMG for awhile. It was him on the right kit & Herb on the left. I always looked at Slaughter as pretty much glam cheese rock but you can’t deny that Blas has skills. He parlayed that experience with Blue Man into playing drums for Trans Siberian Orchestra & has been with them for a long time too. Good on him. He only had a small taste of success in that band but he made damn sure he was going to play drums for a living & I call that a win in every sense of the word.
@@jolemite2639 oh they definitely are super commercial metal, but most of those guys were the more talented musicians funny enough. I saw bmg on a high school music class trip maybe 20 years ago, and it was better than some 80s rock shows I've seen for sure lol. Excluding real metal bands like queensryche, priest, etc.
After all these years I still hope I can finally see them one day, but I think this might be the happiest Drumeo video I've seen yet. Very magical to see the group on here.
I saw them in Vegas, the original trio, back in 2005 and it was absolutely INCREDIBLE!!! They climbed over my seat and I had blue paint all in my hair. It was one of the most memorable experiences of my life. 100/10 recommend.
I don't know how Drumeo can top this. This is one of the best things I've seen on the whole-ass Internet in a long time. Why did a silly drum video make me smile and tear up at the same time? Witnessing this level of mastery at work is so rare, and I'm just glad I got to enjoy it because somebody hit the record button. ♥️🎧🤘
I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this. I first heard of Blue Man Group back when I was a young man and still enjoy hearing and seeing them in my mid 50's. Awesome job guys.
Wow this was one of the greatest videos I have ever witnessed. Never seen a blue man group show but have never wanted to see them more. They killed this and the choreography of it all was astounding.
If there is anything that BMG has down to a science it’s visuals. If you’ve never sat down for a full BMG performance I can’t tell you what you’re missing. You just got to see it for yourself. It’s the most seamless live music/theatre experience I’ve ever seen.
@@TjayK2I’ve watched a couple of minutes of some of their live acts on YT and just from that can definitely agree that BMG are one of the greatest things the music industry has got atm.
