I am not muslim, but this religion simply amazes me. I love the way people pray, in a deep way facing Mecca. I won't convert, but I hope I can visit these places some day.
Sometimes I pull this video up and cast it to my television. With my eyes closed, it's like being transported back to Istanbul. I can recall the feel of the evening fog, the wet, earthy smell of the countless dogs that wander the parks, and the taste of red tea and hookah. Thank you so much for sharing it.
Have you ever experienced that moment where everytime you go to a shop to buy some souvenirs....they will treat you a cup of apple tea....you dont even have to bring some mineral water i guess everytime you travel to istanbul....hehe
I have a habit, or an addiction, to listen to this at least once a day. I feel extremely relaxed and at peace while listening to the call to prayer. It feeds my heart and soul.
I was visiting the Suleymaniye Mosque in Istanbul when I heard the praying call. I'm an atheistic guy, but it sent some serious shivers down my spine, and I felt I was in front of something powerful. Great experience!
I visited Turkey in 2012 and I was sitting with a family at their mountain side home in Kayseri when the evening prayers that went out and echoed back and forth. It gave me chills. So very beautiful. I wish we would all slow down in our day to hear the call to prayer and acknowledge God/Allah/Great Spirit/whatever we choose to call the creative force behind all creation.
+Rogue Les Indeed! I went to Kayseri too and stayed with a Kurdish family for a few days. Unfortunately there was not enough time for me to go up the mountain but maybe next time! I found the people there very friendly and was surprised that so many came up to talk to me. The children I met wanted to practice their English.
Just visited Istanbul for the first time. Was truly in complete awe the first time I heard this echo throughout the city. Won't even forget this moment that brought me to tears.
As the owner of this video, you know what would be great? If everybody would keep the comments positive or intellectual. Please insult others' religions and make other inane comments elsewhere... I am tired of deleting hate and stupidity from a video I uploaded so people could appreciate the art and spirituality of a wonderful place. Thanks! -Tod
***** Ashley - I hope you used the clip! I am an AP World History teacher and uploaded this and other videos of my trip to Turkey for just that type of thing. Sorry for the late response. - Tod
I feel so sorry for people who are deaf and full of hate to that point to not be able to hear how beautiful the call to prayer is thank you for the video!
Great tradition.I'm Christian Catholic and we've bells in our churchs I think that theese chants are much more better and typical!Respect to all Muslims!
When I was in Turkey whenever there was a call for prayer I would get goosebumps all over my body.... Its just so beautiful, and it is soooo hard to sing like this ...... (excuse me If I got something wrong) but I really enjoyed each and every time I would hear a prayer call ....
Thank you for posting this. I was in Turkey several weeks ago and loved hearing the Call to Prayer in various cities throughout the country. I even slept with my windows open to hear the 3:30 am call! I am a teacher and am looking forward to giving a presentation at school showing the beautiful people and sites of Turkey.
One of my fondest memories from all our travels was waking to the call to prayer in Istanbul. Other Islamic cities, too, but Istanbul was our first experience. Loved it throughout the day. I am Roman Catholic and love Gregorian chant, too.
I have no religion but the call to prayer always touchs me, I had it on my mobile for a long time. I´ve been to Istanbul once and got stunned to hear the Azan exactly at the same time from mosques very close to each other, unforgetable!
The language in which the call was done in was Arabic, this is the translation. God is greatest I bear witness that there is no deity except God. I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of God. Come to pray. Come to success God is greatest There is no deity except for God.
Oh, how stunning. Thank you for uploading this. I'm not Muslim, but I came on youtube to find calls to prayer like this after hearing one just now from our neighborhood mosque. This is the power of sacred sound; it transcends religion, language, culture :)
Istanbul is truly a magical city. I've always been fascinated by the Orient,by their culture, architecture and traditions. I admit I'm not a religious person but when I first got to Istanbul and heard the call to prayer, I got goose bumps all over my skin and my heart just melted but felt so good in the same time. Not to mention people are so nice and friendly! So far I visited Istanbul 3 times but I still want to go back asap. Amazing city!
Thank you for posting this beautiful call to prayer. Istanbul is one of my favorite cities, and the Blue Mosque is a stunning house of worship. This Christian pastor is inspired by the call...
Hello Tod Witman. I've been many times in Istanbul and everytime i hear the call of the Mosque's, it sounds like music in my ears. this feels so nice and peacefull. So thank you for sharing :-)
I had dinner at the top of the Arcadia Hotel in 2005. We were lucky enough to be there during the call to prayer. An amazing memory. It was a beautiful experience.
SUBHANALLAH EL_ AZEEM what a voice catching hearts to turk to go i love you my allah and my prophet hazrat muhammed {saaw} i like tuerkish great muslims from pakistan loving salaam to u all
These beautiful adhans are probably what I loved most about my trip to Istanbul. We stayed right down the road from Sultanahmet mosque, and every morning I'd be awoken for fajr by four or five of the most beautiful adhans I've ever heard all at once! The Topkapi Palace museum was icing on that cake.
I went on the TCF tour summer 2014, thanks for sharing this. Brings back good memories! One of my favorite things about Istanbul was listening to the call to prayer in the evenings.
Tod Whitman, I really admire and respect the positive thinking and respect you hold for people's religions and dont subscribe to the hate filled mantra. World would b a far better place if there r people like u in it
Very nice! I went to Istanbul in 2007 and will be going again in October, this year. Another place I can recommend to go to hear the Call to Prayer is the Galata Tower. I was there around midday and its quite eerie looking out over the Bosphorous from the top of the tower whilst listening to the prayers coming from all over the city. I want to repeat this experience!
Istanbul is a wonderful city. I also visited Ankara, I was staying in an apartment building that must have been very close to the Mosque's speaker. Nearly jumped out of my skin when the Azan began a few times. It was quite loud.
dude that is so amazing im not really a fan of religion too much, but i can't deny the beautiful architecture of mosques and holy buildings. that blue mosque and hagia sophia were built by the byzantines just the thought of that and the music with the architecture is an amazing sight that i hope to visit in the future.
MashaALLAH Truly amazing Luv Turkey Proud to be Muslim Thank u O! Lord....... For making me born as muslim. Thank u uploader for uploading this truly hearth soothing AZAAN god bless u
Not a "fan" of what's being said necessarily but it's very beautiful. I stayed in this area, and this voice is all too familiar. I think every call to prayer is one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard, honestly.
Bells, Gongs, Chants, silence, take your pick. Everything displays beauty out of context. My friend was born in Syria, he said he use to have nightmares from hearing the call to pray as a child. He didn't understand it, of course his parents moved to Canada and didn't adopt any culture from their birthplaces so the experience was never continued or explained to him. So now he has just haunting memories. For me i just brings up memories of old movies set in the mid east. I find it comforting like 1930's swing
I agree, I have to give it to the muslim community on their public display of their faith! I wish all of Christianity would unite, become one and do the same. Some of my favorite dinners in Istanbul were at my favorite place Adonin, a 5 minute walk from the Blue Mosque (which we could see from our table) during the evening call to prayer. Very soothing.
very very beautiful camile :) is very big and very very beautiful call , and they sincronyze very nice with the other camile from Fatih district ... I have ben ther 2 times. I love turkye.
Mashallah! This is a great view of the Blue Mosque! Just check out the birds circling the mosque as the Muezzin calls in the Name of his Lord! May Allah(SWA) bless all muslims across the world!
I miss it as well, after having spent three weeks there this year. It has excellent food and I do miss hearing the Call to Prayer throughout the day. -"tarotworldtour"
بِسْــــــــــــــــــمِ اﷲِالرَّحْمَنِ اارَّحِيم Praise be to Allah , the Cherisher and Sustainer of the world; 3. Most Gracious, Most Merciful; 4. Master of the Day of Judgment. 5. Thee do we worship, and Thine aid we seek ..... ...
@beatthecrowd001 I agree completely. Just a quick note: the Blue Mosque was built by the Ottomans in 1616, well after their conquest of Constantinople from the Byzantines in 1453. But yeah, the Hagia Sophia was originally Byzantines and converted into a mosque. This place has been at the crossroads of history for millenia; a truly amazing city, both historically and today. The hookah's good too.
