I honestly can say that the 425 look a lot better when the headlight was mounted above the Smoke Box I think the idea was to make it look like a Pennsylvania Railroad engine it also sounds great with that Pennsylvania Railroad 3 chime

Wow, I lived in NJ in 1986 and knew nothing about this. Most likely because I wasn't a railfan at the time and wouldn't have known anyway from the usual railfan sources. Too bad, it looks like it was a fund trip! Ten years later and things were different, I DID make a C&O 614 trip! What a ride!

425 should be a star in a movie!

@ToonLink682 - The second tender is an auxiliary tender, made to increase her water capacity over long distances. More water means less time to stop and fill them up again.

I grew up watching this video on RFTv. Sadly the channel doesn’t exist anymore in Florida. I’m trying to get the dvd of this video.

I love this whistle on her! While I love the headlamp where it is currently (a'la Reading), this whistle is best!

I remember when 425 was on the Morristown and Boonton lines and when he came through Dover. It was shortly after the new electrics had been put into service. The old MUs Andy Mueller bought were nicely painted and looked like new. I like 425 in black, too. I don't think BM&R had 2102 yet.

I wish I saw this train and engine in 1986 at the age of 12.

I rode that trip expecting the 765 … All I remember is a lot of rain at Port Jervis..🙁

How did these trips happen? Didn't 2102 also run to Port Jervis as well? Wasn't 1986 the year there were no off-line excursions on Conrail with BM&R because there was an insurance crisis and Conrail wanted over $1 million in liability insurance? But this trip ran because it was run with NJ Transit, and they could ferry the train over Conrail from Temple to Hoboken because there were no passengers on board. I wonder if there's hope for steam again on this line and other lines in NJ, NY and eastern PA? Maybe the NKP 765 with NS? 765 ran this line in 1988 as well, and went to Temple, PA with public excursions. C&O 614 is stuffed and mounted in WV, CSX wouldn't let Ross Rowland use it on their tracks with his Greenbrier Express. So, 3 ex-NS diesels were going to be used instead, then it was going to be tacked at the end of an Amtrak train and dropped off at the resort. But the R&N, and NS are steam and passenger excursion friendly. 614 would have worked out on either of those railroads.

Did you know that the BM&R coaches used to run in NJ for DL&W/EL and later Conrail and NJ Transit? BM&R bought them in 1984 from NJ Transit.

No he means that CSX has banned all steam live or not from their rails. That happened in 1995 or so. But NS has welcomed some steam back to their rails. However, the 425 is all friction bearing, plus most of the coaches, so would not be suitable anymore to run on class 1 railroads.

C&O 614 USED TO RUN BEETWEEN HOBOKEN AND PORT JERVIS ON NJ TRANSIT FROM 1996 TO 1998 WHEN HE WAS RETIRED IN 1999 BUT THERE IS A CHANCE THAT HE CAN BE RESTORED I THINK 425 MIGHT COME BACK TO NJ TRANSIT AGAIN IN THE FUTURE ALONG SIDE C&O 614 SOON...

GM&N 4-6-2 Pacific 425 was build on January 12, 1928 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in Eddystone, Pennsylvania.

Yep she will be back this summer or fall. But definitely this year. Who knows if she will be back in black or blue... I'm hopeing black! But it's all up to Mr. Muller.

No diesel helper? Well, then, when it was crossing the tall bridge, what were those two red things behind the tool car? 2 DIESELS! They looked like Morristown & Erie units.

I wonder if she can have a repeat soon in the future? I know that the CSX didn't mean to kill it! But when can she do it again?
