Had to check these out on Spotify. Really dig the Dodo Green album. Definitely one I’d pick up if reissued. Thanks Chris

I bought last year the reissue of Sheila Jordan’s album, released in 2016. I like some of her songs, such as I’m a fool to want you, she reminded me of Helen Merrill’s style. I would like to find Dodo’s album, I hope they reissue it like Jordan’s. The music is pretty good, I streamed it. Thanks for covering those albums!

My favorite female vocalist Blue Note recording is Rachelle Ferrell's First Instrument & Live at Montreux Jazz Festival. Honarable mention to Marlena Shaw, Dianne Reeves, and Cassandra Wilson. All of these women are incomparable vocalist.

I've never heard of those 2 albums and artists hopefully Blue Note re-releses them in their tone poet or their classic series, thanks Chris

Joe Williams' "Worth Waiting For" comes to my mind as a Blue Note BST-84355 from 1970. There might be some other vocalist albums in the 4000 series, I'm not sure without looking. Blue Note vocalist albums of note also include Bobby McFerrin, Us3, and of course Norah Jones!

LURLEAN HUNTER II i.e. the "confirmation - fermentation .." : "By making charts sensitive and complimentary, rather than obtrusive and obligatory, they gave her a palette with which to paint some of the most exquisitely beautiful pastels of voice color embroidered with the subtle richness of her magnificent dynamics. The illustriousness of her tones with the purr-fect pitch, diction and timbre is an extremely unique occurence in a single person. " (=source unknown, now you promote this deceased Atl -discarded Lady ! Very little, if any analysis on her neglected near-buried significance ! I am sub, so I can dominate .. )

Vinyl originals on these titles are really uncommon. There was a BN 75th LP Reissue on the Jordan haven't heard it. The press quality was usually not very good on that series. I have a older European BN CD of the Jordan. The vocal pitching issue you mention on the Jordan doesn't seem to stick out as much on the CD for some reason. Though some of this might be attributed to Sheila's stylising and sliding into/around notes. It's more of a Cabaret style of singing on this album than Jazz singing IMO. On the Downbeat review of the Greene album and the organ in the late 50's/early 60's Hammond organ Jazz, while hip and popular now, was often looked down upon by many Jazz critics and hard core afficianados at the time. They considered it commercial bar music even though it was popular in Black neighborhoods of the era.

I've had the Shelia Jordan recording for years and always wondered why there's so little of her work out there. Thanks.

She's recorded pretty regularly since 1975 and is still going strong at the age of 95, performing and teaching regularly. Her most recent album is 2022's 'Live at Mezzrow'.

Now this is interesting & you're right, I don't think a good discussion about these longer 9001,9002 albums. Indeed I also thought that Sheila didn't quite hit the mark on that album. Her other works are great! I know I often try & explain away in my own mind why this kind of thing happens, especially when other albums in a discography are just superb. My Train of thought always revolved around the fact that some singers aren't comfortable with small combos. In the case of this album, it feels like she just needed (apologies to say) a melodic 'guide track' to keep her locked in key. Ha, that's just me as the arrangements are great, song choices for her in the album are very good, just kinda disappointing - a real shame. Very collectable though 😉

LOREZ ALEXANDRIA - Suggest do a proper in-length 1 on her 26 lp career ! Very obscure ballad songstress, not a Bet-Car type of hotrodder. Some serious career-sleuthing is required on her odd decision to quit the biz for a decade from early 70s onw. Was it disco, kids, shrinkitry or sth else. There s an excellent live 40 min set of her comeback gig in front of her hometown/Toddlin Town audience @ Grant Pk, Aug 80, captured by NPR, first being i-viewed by CUSCUNA. Ch name it is on : DONALD TYE (also on another "Dad s a soul man or sth ..) Check it out, great audio. Just subscribed based on your dareness to promulgate these 2 BN voc ladies. Got 2 meters of jazz voc albums. Don t like everything & discard mercilessly if strings on record. PS. GLORIA LYNNE - the same on her !!! 🇫🇮
