This song will always bring me back to a better time in my life, between all the family problems and bad friendships I had through highschool and a bit beyond; this song was always the start of my "safe haven" playlist. . I've struggled to find that happy place again for years now, but this song always gives me a glimmer of hope I'll truly find it again someday. . This version will be cherished, I love you all, Thank you so much Blue October 💙
Totally know what you mean. I’m in a happy place but this song just takes me to that safe place I go to whenever shit happens. Just hang in there, better days will come.
I'm 60 now (never thought I'd see 30 lol) & I went through so many truly awful times & good times were many too, just like hope springs eternal, the happy floats back up to greet you once again, eventually if you can find ways to trust in your higher power or the physics of this world (or whatever you can rest your stress on & leave your anxiety with) and know that you WILL BE HAPPY again. If you just keep doing 'you', trying to stay in a positive frame of mind, eating right, drinking lots of water each day, sleeping adequately (our brains use the time we are asleep to heal cellular damage, they recently discovered that is a big reason why enough sleep is so vital for good mental health) and exercising, even if it's just a lil at a time at first, putting one foot in front of the other, then whatever you're going through will turn around, and faster than if you don't nurture you when you are hurt. Having good positive energy will draw positive people and things to you..so hang on and concentrate on taking care of you more than usual, at least until you feel your mood turn around. Read positive info., helpful encouraging stuff, pick up an old hobby or a new one, do anything healthy to help you heal, and even grow a bit.Think of what you loved to do at ten, 12, 14 years old, get into it again, now. Listen to happy music (once you've suffered enough and let yourself feel any pain you needed to, then use music you love that's happier to elevate your mood. You can begin practicing meditation to calm your mind or chill out a racing head (that always was my biggest enemy, my own brain speeding 100 mph,, overtime lol) because a peaceful mind, learning to let go of the things we can't change opens you up to your present more fully, and your future too. Being more peaceful inside and happier will attract positive things and the right people to you. Your next happy is always ahead of you so it's up to us to keep walking towards it. I had to find out how to accept the good and bad for what it is and learn to ride out the tough times, not by using pills and alcohol to blot it out (only to have it land on me even worse once I was sober) but by allowing the experience to make me feel like crap, cry, whatever until it passed and to be kind to me while I went through it all. I learned I could be kind to myself, nurture myself instead of using self destructive methods when I felt hurt, which always caused me more problems and more pain, they never helped me at all, except very temporarily, I knew no other way to cope , wish I would have.... We were given tears for a reason, they let off the pressure like a vent. Now I ask God, when tough things happen, "What am I going to learn, what do you want me to learn from this ?" to remind m to look for the growth life is throwing my way. I can tell you this in hindsight, everything I lived through (it's one helluva list....sigh) but it was all to create who I became, wiser, more empathetic, kinder to others, more understanding and thank goodness to teach me to wake up LOVING MYSELF so I can love others how I should. If I am alive, I beat incredible odds to be born in the first place and every year is not a given, if we make it to each next birthday, it is a gift. So go and truly pursue whatever gives you chills, excites you, makes you happy because when you are happy you'll spread happiness and you'll refuse to let anything or anyone very much into your life who does not treat you with respect and kindness. @@spiggbo you are so very welcome, my blabber mouth of my entire life, (sigh...lol) has now morphed into a 'blabber typist', so I'm sorry that I do tend to go on wayyy too much & ?I never realize it 'til it's too late & then I'm too tired of typing & squinting at the screen, to spend 30 minutes trying to shorten a comment...or er... a speech, essay...But I hope you can sense the feeling underneath my big mouth, that I recall my 20's & 30's were such emotional years. It takes practice to learn how to handle strong emotions & when someone doesn't have a good role model that taught them non destructive ways to deal with life's pits, while young, how to comfort & nurture themselves when they're wounded (as in : eat ice cream, journal, take a hot bath, watch a few great movies or whatever floats your boat to help you feel a tiny bit better until tomorrow (as long as it's not destructive to you: as in rule #1 no drunk texting lol) to be able to calm themselves down & call it a day, knowing it will eventually get less painful with time.... well if no one teaches us,we get to be adults woefully ill equipped to take care of our painful things. My Dad drank all my life, my Mom had to take powerful meds because of being bipolar, back when good meds for it did not exist, so all I knew was, when you felt bad, escape into some substance. It never ended well. So, I wish I'd heard I could help myself learn how to get through things and toughen up, and not used substances.
I have listened to you guys since I was a kid, I'm 29 with my own kids and still love your music you have helped through so many bad times in my life, I wish I could have gone to one of your concerts, I hope one day I will be able too love you guys
They look like they are genuinely having fun. I’m sure they’ve played this song 1 too many times but every time I hear it, I indulge in an amazing experience and I’m so thankful that they continue to give off that vibe that I’m receiving.

blue october always sounds amazing live, probably the one band that you'll never be disappointed hearing live. Justin is an amazing artist and i think he sounds better live, just because he puts SOO much more emotion into the music live

I feel like a fool. But, I guess it's difficult to listen to every band ever made when I mostly listen to the heaviest of Metal. I just found out about Blue October and all I seem to do is listen to these live songs on repeat. I'm not even sure where to begin with their catalogue but what an incredible band.
I was never allowed to listen to secular music growing up and the chores stuck with me till one of my work shifts I hear this song and I was so stoked. I had tried finding this song but couldn’t get the lyrics right. Found the hurricane/ocean song 🤍 the violin in this song is iconic.
I love this song. But “Hate Me” was literally a god sent song that came at a time I needed to know I wasn’t the only one having issues with my mom. And wow, did that song help me through it.

This was the first song I’d ever heard from Blue October when I was in high school. The gateway to a journey in music. Been following these guys ever since. Love this song and it will always have a special place in my heart. ❤️
P.O.V : You're a highschooler driving home in the late late afternoon, staring out the car window. You just came from extra math tutoring, because you're failing the subject splendidly. You feel pressured because it's late and you still have a lot of homework and assignments due tomorrow, but you haven't eaten anything all day and you're so so tired. The sun is setting, throwing the passing countryside into an el dorado of colours. Your mother/father is asking you about your day. You don't know how to tell them that you sat alone during lunch break again, because you're the weirdo and no one wants to talk to you. You shrug and tell them is was okay. Then you pull out your blackberry and earphones. It's full of music from Falling In Reverse. Sleeping With Sirens. Breaking Benjamin. Sick Puppies. And bands, unlike the previous ones, that you will one day cringe at having in your playlist. But then you see Blue October. And you click on the first song: "Hate me". It doesn't fit the mood. You skip to the next song without looking. Shuffle takes you to "Into The Ocean". Your mind begins to wander as you listen to the music. The piano blends with the drums and bass with Justin's voice. Then the lyrics hit you. You want to sing along, but remember your parent is in the car. So you just close your eyes and turn up the volume. The violin cries and tugs at your heartstrings. "I wanna swim away but don't know how." You've thought about running away from home a lot of times before. Just to experience a naive sense of freedom. "Let the rain of what I feel right now come down." You feel pressured to perform academically while also excelling in extracurricular activities. "I scream aloud begin to sink" You're angry at being bullied. You're angry at your parents wanting you to dress/act like someone you're not. You're angry and trapped and it feels like you're grabbing at an untethered lifeline. "Into the ocean - end it all..." You open your eyes. "Into the ocean end it all..." And somehow it's six years later. "Into the ocean end it... all..." The live performance song fades out and you cry. Because you've made it. Without needing to end it all.
I had “forgotten” all about Blue, not sure how because now it is a loop in my head. I missed an opportunity to see the band live in a intimate sized venue, shout out to Royal Oak MI, Right before we battened down the hatchets “and the rain came down”. Like everyone is saying your songs bring back memories, now you are providing us with a memory of something beautiful and sustaining during these dark times....

OMG!!! I saw this happen a little while ago and I went off the rails!!! I could hardly turn my phone on in time to capture the excitement of the experience, I had NO idea of how much I was Jonesing for me some RAW Blue October. I miss the intimacy's of the concerts but you ARE ON THE BALL! Man. Keeping in REAL and in my face through this pandemic journey is amazing, It stops me in my tracks some days. lol Thank you and your handsome team for your service and support. It was fantastic, stunning and memorable 💙💙💎💙💙 I don't know any other band that stay connected to the fans during this strange pandemic time as Blue October and especially Justin are doing. Hate Me will always play in my head, it was where I was and I have gone back to that so many times. This is the closest I will ever get to any concert but if I was able to go to one it would be you guys. You grow and change along with me, ups and downs. I am 50. There is no music genre from the 80s till now where I can’t relate. You don’t have a song that doesn’t resonate on some level. I felt this in my soul just watching on RU-vid. I have my favorite band member but I love you all.
I remember when this song and Hate Me came out. They were my lifesavers. I was in a very dark and alone place in my life back then. I'm now so much better in life with a husband and 2 year old little boy. I have been and always will be a Blue October fan. This is my fav song among all.

I listened to this song over and over after my daughter was killed in a drunk driving accident. This May marks 10 years since the accident. I am sure Blue October has helped many many people through hard times. ❤️❤️❤️
I was a kid when I first saw Blue October on Much Music and never really appreciated them. Now that my suicidal, drug and alcohol fueled partying years are behind me, now I appreciate them
Like being back in my younger days. This song really helped my brother and I. And means more to me now at 38, especially on the days when it feels like I’m drowning. Thank God for his grace.
I remember when this song was new and playing alongside Makes Me Wonder by Maroon 5 on the radio. There are kids in high school who are younger than this song and have probably never heard this song. Why do I feel old. I’m still in college.
