Amazing. The first American heavy metal band of note. Columbia signed them so they could house an "American Black Sabbath." BöC is extremely under rated.
*@Kayla Caulfield* Agree.......but (some isolated good tacks excepted) sadly they disintegrated after "Agents Of Fortune". .....Although they deserve to be legends for the first four albums alone . or even for "Agents" alone ....
The band of that era makes me wet. And I’m a dude! It just doesn’t get better than this shit. I spent Christmas Eve at Eric’s aunt’s house in ‘93, just after my father passed. He couldn’t have been kinder, Christ, I’m tearing up for the first time since my only kid died, he couldn’t have been kinder, introduced me to his wife and kids and we talked all things BOC, then family. Probably the greatest night of my life, besides the night I met my wife. At a BOC show.
same here in NYC... had the opportunity to see the BOC many times locally, especially the old Academy on 14th street/ Beacon Theater, and then when they became ""superstars" the Garden and the NAZI Coliseum. Oh yeah, the BOC put on some great shows at the Capitol in NJ!!!!
That was before both rock and metal evolved into what they are now but young people who love Sabbath, maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, and later groups like Korn and avenged sevenfold need to listen to the early BOC records before the commercial breakthroughs like "reaper", "zilla" and "burning" because they will know what influenced "heavy metal", " death metal" and thrash metal. Bands like Slayer and Megadeth are not as original as people think. They just became much heavier than anything prior
BOC's music never gets old. Highly underrated, especially Buck's guitar playing. He is one of the best rock guitarists ever, period. I saw them many times in their heyday. One memorable time was as Soft white Underbelly at Hammerheads in West Islip, NY.
@@MrSkyblu1 BOC has to revamp their stage show during their tour with Kiss. They were the headliners, not Kiss. But Kiss' show upstaged BOC's and they stopped the tour to develop a show with effects. Before they, they just went out and played. I liked Kiss and BOC. But BOC's musicianship and songwriting was on such a higher level than Kiss', especially Donald Roeser. Ace Frehley as a guitar player couldn't shine Roeser's shoes.
Yes "sinister" is the word that always came to my mind with BOC back in the day. Eric Bloom had that great sinister voice that fit the music perfectly and Buck had that sinister guitar that would put some fear in you. The only other guy comparable, that I can think of is Sabbath's Tony Iommi
I was a naïve, unsuspecting Alice Cooper fan in 1972 when I first saw Blue Oyster Cult. Holy crap was I blown away. I knew 5 minutes in that I was in the presence of a major band.
My very favorite BOC song of all time!! I saw them in concert in 2008 they blew the roof off the friggin building!! They rock hard. Buck Darma is awesome on guitar! 😄👍🌠
back in time when your car stereo system had speakers in every orrifice, equalizer and amp..this f'n tune ......they could hear you coming down the road 3 blocks...heh heh
For sure!.. i had equalizer, Jensen tri-axials and a top line Sony stereo and i would blast away!.. when a system in your car was a must for cruising/ boozing..hahaha
I LOVE YOU, B O C, Been jam'mim' to you's since the 70's, Tim Crissinger, Ray Satterfield, Terry Crissinger and Mickey Marich are your biggest fans in Collinwood, Cleveland, Rocks, ohio.💙🎼🎶✌🎵🤟
I think this performance is where most would say BOC was at its peak. Some of their best songs, and good enough to fill half of a live album. Any BOC fan would kill to be at this show just one more time, I think.
I have to agree. I first saw BOC in 1977 in Columbus, Ohio during the Spectres tour. Of course I was a BOC fan before that but yes late 70's early 80's was prime time for BOC. They are just flat out unlike any other band out there. There's just no comparisons to any other band with these guys.
Oh, boy, what a song! What a great band! Just love that riff! And it was way back then in 1981, in their best period, the one that was encapsuled in a a great live album: Extraterrestrial live (1982)!
Totally rocks! Eric Bloom has such a killer voice. It is disappointing now because the new live versions sound just as awesome but goofs off now with the vocals...
@@ryanhills3456 I don't really like how much they've changed the key for the songs and sing the vocals now. And I get that they're almost 80 and can't sing like they once did but when you have to almost rewrite the song because you're losing talent, it might be time to retire.
@@ryanhills3456 I totally agree. Who cares that he can't hit those vocals anymore. If you are a true fan you will enjoy it alot more than the goofing off with the lyrics in my opinion.
Todays music won't hold up 5 days from now.At the risk of sounding like an old fart they just dont write em like that anymore. I was fortunate to have seen original BOC twice, first time in early 1976 @Albany Palace Theater and at outdoor concert on same bill as The J.Geiles band and Black Oak Arkansas. Believe was same year Dont fear the Reaper came out!
nab692000 I saw em in 1975 at Cleveland stadium on a bill with: BOC- Mahogany Rush - Uriah Heep - Aerosmith - and Rod Stewart. We left after 10 mins of Stewart - he couldn't compare to the bands we'd seen that day. Sadly - concerts like that are gone forever. But I'll never forget it!
Here's another trip down memory lane for me. I attended this concert at the notorious, gone but not forgotten Hollywood Sportatorium. It was the 2nd time I had seen them, I was 15 & it was memorable.
I saw Blue Oyster Cult live as the headline group in Wilkes Barre PA in an small theater around 1976. I already had two of their records by them. Rush was the opening act, and Kiss followed up after them before BOC went on stage. My friends thought Kiss was awesome, but I never did think so (all show theatrics). In a interview with Gene Simmons even he thought BOC was a better band!
BOC could have cemented their legacy with this song alone. So many other great tunes from this band-seven screaming dizbusters comes to mind. I will never forget seeing BOC in February of '74. I was standing right in front of Bloom. He looked very sinister to my 13 year old brain!
People many anyway, give credit to e van Halen for inventing the tapping technique, but maybe they were wrong. I haven't seen BOC since the mid-seventies, but to this day their shows were amongst the best I've ever seen, and at every one of Them, they shredded their supporting acts. Ted Nugent, Journey, reo speedwagon, others I can't remember. And a great BOC story. LA police chief Ed Davis decided while under his command the unsavory element goes to this type of show So we were at LA Shrine Auditorium for BOC, the SC football team were the roving bouncers, instantly terminating any pot smokers in the crowd, "put it out" and you had to listen. While BOCs team prepared, we went into the lobby and hung out, watching the "undercover" cops scrutinize the crowd in their "trench coat disguises". Watched them a half hour, stoned out of gourd on a 3 letter favorite. They never looked our way! I miss the seventies...
@@randalmayeux2288 Traditionally I know him for the CheeseBerger ( Steinberger ). I can dig an Explorer played well. James Hetfield and The Edge to name two. Have a wonderful 2020 in spite of the nonsense.
Just flashed back to Cleveland Stadium at one of the World Series of Rock Stadium. Their rendition stole the show! This became my rock anthem, and still is!
I was three too. saw em in 1975 at Cleveland stadium on a bill with: BOC- Mahogany Rush - Uriah Heep - Aerosmith - and Rod Stewart. We left after 10 mins of Stewart - he couldn't compare to the bands we'd seen that day. Sadly - concerts like that are gone forever. But I'll never forget it!

Another great clip. Listening to Eric Bloom sing this and then hearing his voice now...painful. Thanks for posting another one from this classic concert Bill.
My God Eric has an amazing set of lungs! Love his voice and his delivery! Buck can play guitar like no other! A great band I love and hope one day to see in RRHOFame!
B. O. C. THE MEN IN BLACK FROM " NEW YORK CITY " !!! These Guys know how to produce a : Rock n Roll event ;. and Then Some !!! Awesome Song and Awesome Band ! Carlito F . ♦️. U. S . A.
Il never forget in 2007 I was 14 at the california state fair me and my buddy Andrew and Shane were in the way back and Buck Dharma saw us way back there and said "let those kids up here we got plenty of room!" And the security guard ushered us up to the front and we promptly had our faces and then eyes melted off he was so fucking cool, even said hey to us, fucking class act! Core memory right there
I remember seeing them that same year 1981. I was 21 and saw them at the FOX theatre in AtL Ga and it was an epic show! Back then anything went and the whole FOX was filled with smoke. I fell in love with B O C from then on and saw them prob 20 more times live😎
they are a strange crew to me but they rock and I've been listening to them for years but I could not tell you any of the band members names I haven't a clue lol
Is that what happened? Listening to his pipes from the 70s compared to now is, like azmarkus pointed out, painful. Too bad Al had left by this time, but thanks for this gem.
@@johnmorris7969 The note progression is pretty much the same, although I think there's some slight difference in that, and the tempo is different. It's based on pentatonic minor, so most people have used a similar scale. Plus, BOC do it so much better than Sabbath.
Definitely listen to this band in the late seventies love Blue oyster cult. The first area I bought in the late seventies cost as much as a car and I played the vinyl had to put headphones on. My wife was sleeping.
I saw BOC. As my first concert. On the bill was also Cheap Trick and Pat Travers. I was pretty blown away. I remember when they played Godzilla, the drummer wore a Godzilla head. Lots of fun!
I saw them in '75 ( I think).. I was close enough that when those flash pots went off, I thought my eyebrows were gone, lol. Also, the only show I was at where some joker set off a tear gas grenade. Interrupted the show, but they and we all came back.
