Saw Blue Rondo in Sheffield early 1980's at Romeo and Juliet's Brilliant! seen many bands live over the years and that gig was and always will be in my top ten.....even if they did refuse to play Me and Mr Sanchez? :o)
For a couple of years in the early 80s, they were just the best band around doing doing this jazzy latin fusion thing. Love to find more HQ vids of them online.
Venivano criticati perché troppo attenti alla moda. Però grandi musicisti con grandi canzoni. A me piacevano allora e piacciono anche adesso. Viva Blue Rondo....
I loved Blue Rondo A La Turk - the titles by Diamond era Spandau, Fashiøn w Dave Harris Kid Creole and other Z artists (Coati Mundi) Eddy Grant and these great musicians made the early 80's popular music scene most enjoyable.
I read where 3 of the members, Mark Reilly (vocals), Danny White (keyboard), Kito Poncioni (bass) left the band and formed the group Matt Bianco (def worth checking out) along with an unknown vocalist - Basia. White and Basia became romantically involved and left Matt Bianco to focus on her career.
It boggles the mind how these guys just slipped through the 80's net....Just too cool for school methinks....Too ahead of their time....I'd put them in the top 10 of live acts I've seen over the years...And that's a top 10 that has the likes of Joy Division, The Clash & James Brown in it.....They just cooked....And then when the breaks came in the songs......It was just a blur of fine tailoring and fancy footwork....Am I being a bit of a snob in saying that in a way I'm glad they didn't make it.....That the few thousand people who saw them during their prime witnessed something.....ummmm.....mercurial...and of the moment....A moment I tell people about....Oh how they mock.....Then they watch videos like this....and the Oxford Road Show version of Klacto Vee Sedstein.....And it's just like when they read about The Loft...Or they see a videos of people dancing to Northern Soul back in the 70's......The look on their faces is just envy!
