😢 Yeah, it sucks that he didn't get to see the final version of this 80s classic. Hopefully, while filming, they had video playback monitors on set that allowed him and the cast to rewatch the footage he and everyone else shot for the day. Warren Mercer Oates, you deserve a posthumous honorary Oscar and a Walk Of Fame Star.
From watching this in the movie theater at age 9 to endless viewings on vhs and cable, I never get tired of watching this film. Amazing aerial scenes, a great script, and terrific acting by all make this one of my top 5 films of my childhood. I could not recommend it more to any friend or relative.
"I had 20 years in this outfit when your idea of a big time was sitting in front of the tv tuned, watching Bugs Bunny and gnawing on your fudgesicle." LOL
Love watching this scene and it is still making me laugh 37 years later. Totally believable scene, a terrific movie overall, and another enjoyable movie directed by John Badham. All great actors in this scene - Roy Scheider ((R.I.P.), Daniel Stern, and what a fantastic acting performance by Warren Oates (R.I.P) .
Watching Scheider and Stern not break character during Oates' Bugs Bunny comment. That was classic and I use that line with new employees who try and tell me my job.
It actually looks like the character of Murphy almost about to completely lose it at 2:36 ; 2:37. But he restrained himself and continued on without being disruptive so that Braddock [Warren Oates] wouldn't chew him out more than he already was. Perfect acting by the late, great Roy Scheider right there for all to see.
Unfortunately, it's due to the fact that while Blue Thunder was filming, Warren Oates was enduring extreme chest pains due to the fact he was suffering from emphysema caused by his long-time smoking of cigarettes, he sadly died one month of principal photography wrapped at the age of 53 on the afternoon of April 3, 1982. He went into cardiac arrest while napping at his home in Los Angeles. Hence, he was not in much of the film because of his deteriorating health. 😔 RIP to an actor my generation doesn't give much care about.
Great scene! I know he already got a suspension, but I still don't know how Lymangood got away with that hard slam to his superior officer's door. And that "I hate you" look, for that matter! RIP Oates and Scheider
After having been in middle management and now being a partly desk jockey as well as still riding like the other bicycle couriers, though only for short runs; I have _constantly_ to pick up the pieces of the mess that these guys makes, and have to get roasted by the company owner for our perceived lack of both speed and skills. -I sit through a colourful description of depravity, several times per week; because of the money, also, I care about my section of town, and I don't want my section to be burnt :3
@@soylentteal Got ya. 😉 I'm wondering if Oates had to re-dub that word before his unfortunate passing predating the film's release. In all honesty, I don't see why that was done. Unless Columbia Pictures got a different voice actor to replace the word for both the home video and the network television broadcast. That's a possibility. Yet they should've left the original theatrical audio alone for the eventual DVD release and subsequent viewings for streaming.
