I think I have you to thank for 99% of the flies I tie that don’t turn out looking like crap. Love the vids

So here’s what is awesome about these videos. Tim has done a lot of parachute patterns and it seems like each one has a little bit different technique. Changing post materials, the furled post, changing tie ins for the hackle, wrap the hackle up, wrap the hackle down, whip finish on the post, crazy glue, UV cure. It’s pretty much. “Hey maybe try it like this and see if it works for you”. And maybe one set of techniques works for a size 12; but if you are tying 20s do it a little differently. I find myself playing around with all of the ideas. Some of them work great for me…some of them just don’t. But if I can mix and match and get to a fly that looks decent, doesn’t drive me crazy trying to tie it, floats , and catches fish then it’s a winner. This isn’t neurosurgery. It’s fishing. Thanks for giving us options we probably haven’t thought about before. I just wish the lady at the Walgreens register didn’t look at me a little sideways when she’s ringing up my Sally Hanson’s. “No…No I use it for fly tying”. “Of course you do.””

Great technique my friend, but when we get to size 24 flies, at my age I can't see them any more. But I CAN see a 24 ounce beer, so that is something.

Tim is the best! 99% of my tying tutorials are Tim's. On this one though I must say that due to the size I simply bought a dozen on eBay. If I were to tie this pattern at size 24 I would use Uni-Thread in 6 or 8W for my thread and skip the dubbing due to the added bulk from the polypropylene. The flows were abnormally high this year in CT. so to me fishing with sz 24 BWO's was redundant, although I tried. They are so dang small I normally refer to them as 'DUST'.

Interesting, Innovative! Never tried to go vertical to finish... I will try this on the small ones.

This would have been perfect 3 weeks ago in the Muscanetcong when they were coming off. Now the water levels are too high, temps plummeting and BWOs are likely gone. Let's tie a few and see what happens later in the week. Thanks as always Tim!

The BWO is one of the only hatches I have consistently seen this year in the Muscanetcong which natives or at least fish with years of experience relate to, but tiny. The record high water killed the bulk of the normal caddis patterns.

Pretty cool, but I think I like your UV Resin post trick a little better for these smaller flies. (I’ve had some good luck with those too!)

Often wondered but haven’t tried, yet, but could you tie dry fly hackle tip first on tiny flies? And hold by the larger end of the feather, to make easier to handle.

That seems like it would work. I find the closer to the tip the stiffer the fibers anyways.

Tying size 24 is one thing, fishing with it an other. What do you expect to catch with this and what size of leader is used? By the way, this vid is awsome.
