Hello @Podcastage! I dont know if you can still manage to read my message. First of all, I love how you review all the different types of microphones which are very genuine to hear and convincing to watch. My question is, out of all USB microphones such as Rode NT USB, AT 2020, Blue Yeti and Apogee MIC, which of them is best for vocal recordings? I really appreciate if you respond to my concern. Thank you! 😊

A lot of people seem to hate blue yeti. I don't own this mic, but judging by this video it actually sounds good, and personally, I especially liked the stereo mode. But apparently some complains are for a reason, because I've heard examples of some blue yeti mics having a constant high pitched noise, not sure how common this problem is though. Btw I absolute love how you are trying to answer every single question in comments, great job!l

Depends on how they're using it. Considering I've used it extensively for gaming and even used it for commentary on streams and videos, mine is still going very strong. Hell, it's gone through its fair share of abuse, but I've never had issues with it not working after 3 months.

@Podcastage Wish I'd found you earlier! Great reviews! Concise, clear, thorough. I got this as well due to versatility. However not 100% happy for audiobooks. Sensitivity, frequency polar pattern, and proximity mean I can't blend edits unless I stand in exactly the same spot. Your reviews would be perfect if you added a noise test : Meeting ACX Audio Submission Requirements Each file must measure between -23dB and -18dB RMS. ... Each file must have peak values no higher than -3dB. ... Each file must have a noise floor no higher than -60dB RMS. ... With the knob at full volume, 85 in software gain, a closet, 4" away and pointing at the corner of my mouth, NR filter at -12dB, and speaking loud, I can meet this. However, you should be speaking in a normal voice for audiobooks (for a very good reason - plosives can't be as loud relative to voicing, thus intelligibility goes down - there's no such thing as shouting a "p"). I could use a bit more sensitivity. If I turn up software gain I notice it's more noisy. A gain of 80dB gives acceptable noise, but I need to be even closer to the mic to do that. This makes for a very scientific and demanding test! Can the mic meet Audible standards?

Note to those who do a lot of edits: I really struggle to make my voice sound the same on trips to the closet. Proximity effect and polar frequency response mean that you need to stand in the exact spot and distance to make edits blend. 2" gives the best bass at the side while avoiding pops and >4" reduces proximity effect. Put the pop filter close to your MOUTH not the mic - you need to slow the wind BEFORE it hits the mic.

+Cameron Kasmiersky Thanks for the kind words Cameron. I'm going to recommend the Blue Yeti. Mainly because it will provide you room to grow. If you decide after a few months that the BM100 isn't providing good enough audio, you'll have to invest more money in a new headset. But...if you get the Blue Yeti, you'll be set for a much longer period of time and have a better quality audio.

Hi! I'm a female looking to podcast and looking at the blue yeti (not pro), the Samson co1u pro and the audio technica AT2020. They all seem very very good! I'm planning on getting a pop filter, a mic stand and an audio interface for the best audio quality I can produce. My room is not too big but not tiny, and has lots of furniture, a queen size bed, and a carpet floor. I'm planning on making a DYI sound booth. I will use audacity as think, and I really love that RICH, studio/singing voice microphone that captures the full integrity of a voice. I don't wanna get too many more accessories than the ones aforementioned. My voice is on the medium to high end and I heard the AT2020 is best for higher ranger and the yeti is better for lower range(bassy voices?) most people have said the AT2020 is slightly better than the Yeti. But you seem to LOVE the Samson co1u Pro! So based on my requirements/equipment I'm getting, which of the 3 would you recommend? PLEASE help! +Podcastage

+Podcastage thats how everybody seems to do it. and i have seen quite a few reviews on the Yeti. i was just thinking about if it would work with a cable from the headphone output to the mic input of a camera. just to make things a little easier.
@ravensfilm
@ravensfilm 6 лет назад
That's been my issue lately. I record feature length audio commentaries with my friends for my channel, and the stereo shotgun mic isn't cutting it anymore since I moved (the room is causing too many audio reflections). Yet, the setup of recording directly into my camcorder is great because it has a hard limiter that prevents the audio from ever peaking out. So, I just press record on the camcorder, and I never have to worry about it. I need to find a review of this microphone that tests it with a group of people like you would for a podcast, and see how it reacts with different people at different distances from the mic. Not to mention, if using the headphone jack into a camcorder works just as well. One channel I follow, OSW Review, has already downgraded the Yeti to a Skype mic, and is instead using $100 Sennheisers for each person in their three man team. Optimally, I would prefer a similar setup, just without the $300+ price tag.

Bandrew! great job with all your reviews! I'm surprised you haven't reviewed the Audio-Technica ATR 2100 or AT 2005 yet. They are both amazingly versatile and affordable for the beginner to seasoned podcaster. Being dynamic mics they deal with room noise well and with them having both USB and xlr connections it allows you to expand from recording into a computer to using a mixer. Not to mention they sound great! Thanks for all the work you put in making videos for us.

+Doug Aschliman Thanks so much Doug. I really appreciate the kind words. I actually have the 2020, 2100, and 2500 all coming up next month. I am super excited to test them out, I just did not receive many requests at the very beginning of the channel. Most of the requests were for the cheap microphones because most people think know that Audio-Technica makes good devices, but they are uncertain about that $10 mic that they see online. =) Regardless, I can't wait to test them out this coming month! Thanks again.
