Sprite or Sprite Zero makes shrubs and vinegars pop extremely well as a cocktail creation, and whiskey adds even more layers to something I already live
I recently had a watermelon shrub with tonic water at a restaurant and it was amazing I was unaware what it was and assumed shrub referred to the stalk of the plant or something which made me wonder why it was pinkish it was a great alcohol free drink and now I can't wait to make one at home thanks
Blueberries this week……wow, such a variety of goodness all around. The blueberries in this area didn’t do well at all because we didn’t have the rain! Happy for you to be able to visit such great producing areas!
It's a brand new one so it's not, but I do have other shrub recipes in there for sure. Once you have the basic recipe template, variations are nice and simple to come up with.
I added to much vinegar I think🧐 and I let it sit for 4 days instead of 3 weeks. It’s really strong 😂 I feel like if it was spilled on painted surface it would peel the paint off. 😁 I keep trying until I get right.
I’m enjoying your content and especially recipes. Does any of the sugar in the shrubs get consumed the way it does in making kombucha or other ferments? I suppose this isn’t a real ferment-just a ferment mix because of the acv. I would think it would be a bit high in sugar in that case. What are your thoughts?
So there is no culture in the shrubs so there is nothing in there that will consume the sugar (like the SCOBY for kombucha). It is high in sugar, however that is what is needed to preserve it. You are only consuming small amounts when do you do drink it. You could also try reducing the sugar levels, but I have never done that so I cannot comment on the shelf life or how it would affect the end product.
I like to use them up within a year if I can. In the fridge or not. Technically I don't think they would ever go "bad" though because of the vinegar content.
Great video, thanks for the tips. I have a question - I've seen so many recipes that add acv right away into the mix the first day. How do you find it different to add in later and/or does it change the taste? Best regards
Thanks so much for watching! I have done it both ways and it doesn't change the taste really. If anything, adding it in at the beginning helps to mellow the bite of the vinegar a bit. Plus it can also do the work of pulling out some of the properties from the fruit/herbs you add. Hope that helps!
Thanks for that superquick reply 😊 Really appreciated! Also, if I use the mother, does it matter if add it in right away or during the 2nd part of the fermentation?
@@Fiache87 I prefer adding it right away, but I thin since shrubs are mostly for drinking/food consumption and not medicinal... it really doesn't matter.
