You are most welcome! The closeups really help and I find when people can really see the difference they never mix them up again.

Oh that was wonderful information and yet again so timely!! We had just noticed yellow flowers all over a wet area of our property and trying to figure out and discuss what they could be. I'm going to go out later and have a closer look at them, to do an experiential plant id. What fun!! Thank you! 🌼💕

@spiraeaherbs It absolutely is coltsfoot! Thank you so much for your video, which led me out to it, with a confirmed ID! Very exciting! Can you please tell me, how I can best use this wonderful medicine? From delving into further, it appears that I can take just the flowers from some ( not the stems). Dry them and tuck aside. Then once the leaves have appeared ( I'm in southwestern Ontario, so likely in June?), then once I have dried leaves, can chop and mix in with the flowers to make a tincture? Is a tincture your preferred way to use this? Or perhaps a cough syrup? Thank you in advance for any additional information! 🙏🌼💕🌼

I actually have a lot more Colts foot than I at first even thought! After sitting in " honouring discussion" with it, I carefully plucked the flower heads from several of the patches. Now I will dry them, and set aside until around June ( Ontario) to go back out and harvest the leaves, dry, chop and add them to flowers to make a tincture ( using your awesome tincture guide Of Course! :),out of the flowers and leaves together? Is that accurate,Correne?

Personally I always use fresh herbs for tinctures. The medicine is just far more potent. So I would make a tincture NOW with the flowers and then wait until June to make a tincture with the leaves. Once you are ready to use it, you would then press BOTH tinctures and combine them into one bottle. Does that help?

Great video. Just looked at the species map and we dont have coltsfoot here in South Central Kentucky YET. At least it hasn't been observed or reported in our area. Still a bit to the east and south of us. Im guessing the southern occurrences are purposely introduced or.. it is along an interstate highway, so thats always a good way for seeds to travel.😊 I'm interested in learning about it though because i bet i could purchase dried. Not sure i would purposely introduce it here. Might let God/Nature do that, but when it gets here in a few years I will be ready. ❤

What is your growing zone there? Curious if maybe it's too hot! It does best in zones 4-7 but can handle zone 8.

@@SpiraeaHerbsim in zone 6. There is some observed/reported on the map due south of me in zone 7, BUT i will tell you that the Kentucky (mapped) occurences are in the Eastern Ky Appalachian mountains and foothills, and the ones to the south, in Tennessee, are also in a range of hills. Even within climate zones, my experience is, there are microclimates that remain cooler and moister...basically "small pockets of a cooler or milder zone" in mountainous areas. Where I live is rolling hills, but flatter. We are the "transition zone" where it gets below zero in winter but over 100 in summer. It could be that Coltsfoot just doesnt prefer our conditions.

@@thedirtprincess3293 We get cold in the winter too, but not usually that warm. It just might not have made it that far south! Would be curious how it would do in your climate.
