I heard once from an old timer, "A lazy man comes up with the best ideas to save labor." I am proof positive that he did not know what he was talking about. Innovative idea. I'll make one for our little acre of berries, if you don't mind. Thanks for sharing this with us.

That's a much better berry catcher than a lot I have seen. Thanks for sharing! Others I have seen are made of hard materials like stainless and plastic, but the net you made would probably lead to less damage to the berries.

Yeah you are correct. The softer the better in my opinion. We can actually pick better quality berries with the frames than with a mechanical harvester. The only downside is it takes longer so you need more help which is difficult to find. Thank you for the comment 👍

Sweet! Did it with a rake in Maine. That is what started my obsession. Cool to see this method on highbush.

Those are rabbiteye bushes but it should work on some of the high bush as well. I’ve seen that raking setup. That looks like a lot of work lol

So how about a video on what you do with berries after they are picked. Like how you bring them to market etc. No one really talks about the process of selling the berries in depth. Its always vaguely mentioned.

Jodie that is a great idea. I will have to write that down for next season. Our season is during the month of June and unfortunately there’s just not much going on during this time of year to share in videos. Other than extreme heat and trying to stay in the AC lol thank you for taking the time to watch and comment 👍

Hey Ryan thanks for the comment. I’m not sure if there’s any supplier for catch frames like I have as mine are homemade. Surely there’s something out there that’s similar.

These particular ones were made by another blueberry farmer I know. I think there are some already made for purchase. They have really helped us pick a lot of berries in a short period of time.

Unfortunately I didn’t build those myself. A buddy of mine is a lot better welder than me and he built them. I think there is a company that makes them but I don’t have any information about it. Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful.

Hey Bob thanks for taking the time to comment. We pull the weeds for the most part. But if you just have to spray something to get control you might look at Liberty or Cheetah. Hope this helps.
