How old is the average person in this group? I really want to audition for bluecoats in my senior year of high school because I will be graduated by the summer.
if i were him i wouldn't. i play clarinet and in concert band im ALWAYS so excited to play 3rd, because i absolutely playing that low register that the firsts never get to play. (in our band our director makes sure everyone plays 1st 2nd or 3rd at some point)
I'm the same way for my Jazz band ensemble. I get 4th Trombone (I play Baritone, and there are 3 other players), which is usually very close to being Tuba parts.
i play alto sax in jazz band and i prefer to play second. the other alto sax player is also a clarinet player and also likes to play second more, so it's a tough decision.
Honestly, as you get older it shouldn't matter the part you get. If you're a strong player but can't play the upper register very well then you're fit for a lower part. It just also depends on how high you play because these DCI shows tend to go very high on the first part.
