Love the tutorials as usual Laurence! I always learn something new! Have you thought of making a tutorial for advanced circuitry like clocks and latches to help with resource and fluid balancing in overhaul mods?
Thanks! More advanced circuitry does sound like a good topic to try, however I've not really done much of it myself - the most complex thing I've done is probably the navigation systems for my spaceships. I've not done much with time - so perhaps making a Tutorio would encourage me to learn! I'll put it on the list and have a good think about what would be good designs to include.
The fact that non of this is ever explained in Factorio is baffling to me. I do think that some of this is a bit unintuitive to use, in particular the filters for deconstruction. Great tutorial by the way.
I certainly have to think through what I'm doing whenever I set up a filter to deconstruct floor tiles, but I think that's mostly because I don't do it very often. I know Factorio does have built in tutorials, but I can't remember how good they are for the red, green and blueprints... It's been a long time since I've looked at them! Still, at least it gives me a niche to release videos into 😀
Glad I could help! There are lots of details in there, but if you just start using them then you'll probably get most of it, then maybe watch the video again to remind yourself of any bits you missed 🙂
ty i didnt know the shift i like to do grid along with tiles and this allows me to grab the ports tiles and all and rail network os expansion is so much better
Blueprints have a troublesome history with the game. They can be lost with a simple power outage. So always backup your blueprints! Either via a text file or going into the game files and creating a Zip file of them.
That's good advice! Personally, I tend to redesign most of my builds in each game, and then copy them from there, but if you want to keep your blueprints safe then having a backup makes a lot of sense.
The editing is very limited, but I think (top of my head!) if you right click on it, it opens it up, from there you can remove items, change the name, description, icons etc. You can't edit it with complete flexibility though; you'll want something like the blueprint editor mod for that. Or perhaps creative mod.
@@LaurencePlays Thx for quick reply. Meanwhile I found a way. If you put it down in the game like a ghostimage you can edit it easy, and create a new blueprint from that.
Yeah, it's so useful, but you have to know how it works, otherwise you might get frustrated with it! (your comment got eaten by the spam blocker - I'm afraid I only just noticed it!)
For rails, Is there an easy way to add land fill to your blueprints? Or is drawing landfill on a lake, adding your rails, then blueprinting the only way?
"There's a mod for that"! As usual with Factorio, if there's something you want to do, but can't, someone's written a mod for it. In this case, it's called "Landfill Everything" - it'll modify a blueprint to have landfill under all of the items in the blueprint.
I've never used a Steam Deck, but I believe the game is exactly the same, so you'd it the same way... It's just that the controls might be a bit different.
Great video - started playing factorio after not playing for several years and these were excellent ways of refreshing my memory and teaching me new things! Cheers!
Yeah, we're not using LTN in our current game, and I'm going to need to refer back to my own videos next time I do! I'm glad they were useful, please let me know if there's anything else you think I should cover.
@@DragonFistLeeMontage In my circuits video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0zXHl7jqDFc.html I talk about setting up power switches to turn on/off depending on the charge level in an accumulator; is this what you mean? Otherwise I don't understand what you're asking!
Press ctrl+C to copy, then drag over the area you want to blueprint. If you want more options (station names, trains, flooring etc) hold shift as you release the mouse button.
You're welcome! It took me a bit of poking around to work out how it actually works, and I think I only really use it for rail blueprints, but it is nice to have!
This is a great video. Thank you for the simple no BS and easy to understand information for newbies like me. Once again, chapter would be great, I was looking for the upgrade planner information in this case. Thanks for sharing friend!
Thank you! I do intend to put chapters in my Tutorios, but it looks like this is another one where I forgot. I've added them in now (along with a link to the FARL Tutorio), so if you need to come back to refer to it, it should be easier 🙂
