@@ChristianHowesViolin Hi, I'm a jazz/blues/funk/ soul singer professionally and I'm returning to fiddle after a number of years and a lot of Alexander technique. Used to play Irish fiddle professionally. but injured myself through tension I originally learnt all the grades on the cello at school then taught myself fiddle so I consider myself a novice.. I'm now learning blues fiddle with a view to joining some bands having fun jamming along. I'm now swaying/dancing during your practice videos which is helping me loosen up a lot. So thank you so much!
Hey Chris, thanks man, you are awesome!! I have been watching your videos for quite some 9 months now, and never dared to play along, as I have no idea how to play the violin, but I love it. Today I decided otherwise and took my violin and played along, and it felt like if you were right there in my living room with me. AMAZING!!! I will learn quite more, and when it makes sense I will schedule a private lesson with you, just to get to know you in person and learn a bit more from your talent. Thanks again.

Brilliant lesson as always 👏 However it makes me nervous that you wrap the cable around your fiddle cos if someone trips over the cable it will the fiddle right out your hands !!
My $200 violin does not sound like yours,it sounds more like a cat with a cracker up it's clacker, I'm waiting on my pernambucco bow,and Amidee Dieudonne violin to arrive, then I'm hoping my learning improves in sound , you make it look so easygoing thank you Chris
thanks Sarah! I'm happy you liked it!! We offer a searchable directory including access to all backing tracks at our play along hub here: christianhowes.com/2020/03/26/play-along-lessons-home/ We ask folks to donate ANY amount from $1 to help support this effort. if you cannot afford $1 and still want the backing tracks let me know and I will get them to you! Chris
Thanks Christian, this has taught me to cut down on the number of notes I'm playing on the blues. I don't seem able to stop fiddling and it gets in the way of the conversation. Your video has also shown me to cut out the classical legato and vibrato. I love the chop as a great way to fill space while you decide what to do next. Even if my mind is blank it still looks like I'm in control and in charge of the blank space. Tell me, was this the minor pentatonic you were playing with the added 7th C natural?
Yes there are tons of play alongs on this channel designed to work equally well for viola and cello. Click on the playlist linked in video description to find many at various levels that work well for viola
One I like a lot is called the slipper. find them I believe at slipperrest.com or google slipper shoulder rest. Otherwise I would go to a local luthier and try some
Play alongs are made by level. If these are too difficult I recommend going to the easiest videos which you can find via the play along directory. Also I often will say my starting note.
