Thanks for the video! I'm not too sure whether I'm hearing the ring or not though to be honest. I get it when I'm playing a G, D, A or E, as it causes the other open string to ring, but I'm not sure what I should hear ringing on the other notes.

With all due respect, I don't agree. If your violin hold is stable, you won't tense your neck and therefore your left hand will be free as a bird to shift without moving the violin that much which seems a little unnecessary. It usually stems from rounded shoulders, a forward head posture and a shoulder rest that's not correctly placed to fit your body. If your daily posture is good, then you won't have problems with this. I've often seen players that have to restart their heads on their chin rest, but they don't seem to recognize and fix their posture problems that influence negatively in their playing.

The last note of most songs usually tells you the key. That helps figure out the scale. Does it sound major or minor? Every scale has its own chords, which you can look up.
