Bluetooth ELM327 Dongle To Bench Test GM Instrument Clusters!

This is sweet. Your getting all the features of a exspensive dealer grade GM tech 2 without the cost and clunky pad.

For the past few days I’ve been trying to figure out how to get it connected to my computer but I also noticed when I plug my harness in, none of the lights other than the back lights that I replace come on. Does anyone know a video or can tell me what wires need to be connected. I tried to look at the video but it’s very hard to see. Thanks

Nicely done! Really enjoy your videos! I'm hoping to make some more progress on getting this cluster working for Sim Hub, via Arduino control. Looking forward to seeing that video on programming the EEPROM from one of these too. It would be nice too if there was a simple script for displaying custom text on the DIC display.

Could you use this same bench test setup but plug in the obdx pro vt instead of the ELM and use IPC hammer on the cluster that way?

Excellent video! I'm wondering if you might be able to help me out. I have built my own bench test box and I'm able to connect (I think) to the dongle but I get "NO DATA" when executing the commands for the IPC. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Scott

Great video. When I try the DIC light-up command on my 2006 cluster (with a blank VFD), I get a reply different to yours. I get 6C F1 60 EE 20 E1 E5 Could this be an error message returned due to the display not working? Maybe the mpu can't communicate with the VFD drivers? I've been struggling with this blank Info display for a couple of months, drawing a schematic, measuring voltages. All voltages seem to be generated in the PCB but still the display is blank. Getter is black. I thought this test would maybe light up the display but no. Cannot find any info on the driver chips and don't know what voltages should be on the VFD, except the outer pins have 6.6V and others are just a few mV which may mean the drivers are not turning on anything. BTW none of those commands worked on an old 2002 DIC cluster I have that also has blank info VFD. They work on the 2006 though.

Hey I’m having trouble when I put the last 3 codes to test the lights or sweep the needles I get a searching unable to connect. What can that be or what am I doing wrong

What power source did you use to power the cluster, im hoping I don’t have to purchase anything expensive just to turn it on maybe there is a cheaper way?
