You might not put much thought into buying an umbrella, or maybe you do. Either way, you should. This is a review of the Blunt XS-Metro. In this video, I compare it to a cheap umbrella so that you can see the difference between your everyday umbrella and the Blunt XS Metro. Unlike some, I did actually use the Blunt XS Metro in the rain before doing a review of it. How does it fair you will have to watch to find out.

I'm pretty sure the that XS_Metro was actually *designed* to invert against wind coming up from under its canopy. Unlike the larger Blunts, it doesn't have the sheer muscle to defy gale-force winds, so instead they made it more 'wind-adaptive' rather than 'wind-defiant'. Which is why it's able to invert backwards, then rectify itself quite easily, without damaging its rib structure.

Bought 1 yesterday & this is worth the purchase since my previous umbrella is pretty much dated! Tested out its wind-resistance & it is true that it can withstand wind gusts hehe!

Thanks for the review. I appreciate that you took the time going over a lot of the small details. Those are exactly the kinds of things I want to know before purchasing -- especially the flaws/gripes. I'm not sure why other people are complaining... if they just want to see someone hold the umbrella or demoing a simple function, there are dozens of other videos showing that. Except most of those aren't much more than paid promotions. You weren't redundant or rambling. Unbiased and critical reviews are hard to come by. People need to learn to appreciate them. That said, I found it more natural watching at 1.5x speed.

I almost never comment on videos. I just want to say thank you for the quality review. The branding labels absorbing rain and thus preventing you from tucking it away in its sheath is genuine useful information. I think I may still buy it but I may lop off some of the advertising. Thanks.

I owned the Metro for 4 years of solid commuter walking between stations and work which only ended through me leaving my blunt on the train. In Auckland NZ (the home of blunt) it rains a lot and is pretty damn windy and I can say it has only inverted a handful of times in four years. Vents and the pointed tips introduce a weakness in the umbrella hence they have been designed out. The sleeve for the umbrella, never really bothered with and it seems to dry pretty fast. The only criticism I have is due to the flatness of the canopy and size it means you need to adjust your grip on the umbrella with the direction of the rain. I have now purchased a ‘blunt classic’. All that said it’s great to have an umbrella that you can pull out for unexpected rain.

Thanks for the thorough review. I spend a lot on umbrellas. I bought a $300 one from Rain or Shine in NYC. But my smaller ones (also expensive) broke/got lost. I just need a new, carry-along in case it rains lightly. But being a NYC pedestrian, I am concerned about the inversion. You may turn a corner and encounter a huge gust. Otherwise it looks nice and will do until my Nubrella arrives. I just placed an order. Blunt owes you some commission :)

XS Metro Seems to be $69 on their site now but I see it adds tile tracking! though it has gone up quite a bit in 2016 even for the standard XS , Amazon has it for less but still more then $50 so based on your detailed review you felt $50 was high check them out now, unless its been made slightly stronger with a 2016 redesign from the one you originally tested, to warrant the price increase then pretty pricey in my opin at $59 for the Standard XS Metro ... Unlike others who may have thought your review was too detailed and lengthy, I like very detailed reviews so thanks for all the details. If deciding on one of these now I would search the net for the best price as you will also have to pay shipping which will again increase the price. Just My 2 Cents ...

My guess is that it has to do with the way it opens up. They might not have been able to keep the umbrella small when collapsed if they had the octagon shape.

it's meant to be a commuter umbrella so it is a little smaller than a regular one. But I still find it serviceable for one person.

It's hard to get back into the cover because you scrunched it up like a pair of dirty underwear! It'll be way slimmer if you roll the folds more neatly, and then you twist it into the cover, don't try to shove it in.

I recently bought a Blunt Metro XS and was extremely disappointed with it so much that I emailed Blunt for a refund - still waiting for a reply after a week. The Metro has a very wobbly stem near the handle and when the canopy is open it spins like helicopter blades. In other words, the canopy or shaft has no splines to stop it from spinning, The design is as weak as piss!!!

Thank you for the feed back. It has been pointed out that I could have trimmed this down a bit. I am used to do tech reviews and if you miss even the smallest things people let you know. So I tend to be a little more redundant and long winded. I will keep this in mind for future reviews. Thanks

Procella Umbrellas are far superior to the Blunt Umbrellas. The entire design of the Procella is superior to Blunt. Check out the Procella, you will find it to be less expensive, and much higher quality. Nice review.

I doubt that. I've seen the Procella in person, looks just like every other generic umbrella to me. It's design is prone to breaking imo. The Blunt is bullet proof in comparison. Do yourself a favour and check one out, you'll see what I'm talking about.

As I have said before this was my first time doing a non tech product, if you skip even the smallest thing with tech reviews people tend not to like it.
