"Alex James on Bass and Chainsmoking" 🤣🤣 if i could give you a million likes i would for that comment. someone who finally appreciates Alex's skills on bass as well as chainsmoking 💙💙
Oasis are overrated , overpriced and over dramatic. They rip off Beatles riffs and all their songs sound similar. In comparison, the versatility of blur from album to album from single to single is far superior than the guitar bass drone of oasis. I don’t hate oasis I think they are a fine band in their own right. However, to compare the two together is not a fair comparison it is simply a timeline.
They sealed their fate when they entered into The Battle of Britpop. They did it on purpose. And so forever will they be doomed to be compared, despite obvious differences in style.
1. Blur 2. The Ballad of Darren 3. 13 4. The Great Escape 5. Modern Life is Rubbish 6. Think Tank 7. Parklife 8. The Magic Whip 9. Leisure (so sorry for sing)
Oasis best 10 songs beat Blurs best 10 songs. But Oasis didn't have much more than 10 good songs. I agree with you, I think 13 is Blurs best album. Manics next?
Hmm...each to their own but I personally love every track on Parklife and definitely think it's their best work. All other albums have great moments but are patchy. Parklife is also incredibly diverse stylistically. It's all about personal taste at the end of the day though hence why everyone has different lists.
My ranking: Parklife (1994) Modern Life Is Rubbish (1993) The Great Escape (1995) Blur (1997) The Magic Whip (2015) The Ballad of Darren (2023) 13 (1999) Leisure (1991) Think Tank (2003)
My Updated Rankings 9) The Great Escape 8) Leisure 7) The Magic Whip 6) Think Tank 5) The Ballad of Darren 4) Parklife 3) Modern Life Is Rubbish 2) Blur 1) 13

I agree with you on 13. My order would be: 1 - 13 2 - Modern Life Is Rubbish 3 - Think Tank 4 - Parklife 5 - Blur 6 - Magic Whip 7 - Leisure 8 - Great Escape
My personal list (from least to most favorite): 8 Leisure 7 Think tank 6 Parklife 5 The great escape 4 The magic whip 3 Blur 2 Modern life is rubbish 1 13
Still think that the singles are mostly their best work but their albums are surprisingly better than I remember... Top 5 albums :- 1 - 13, 2 - Blur, 3 - Parklife, 4 - The Great Escape, 5 - Modern Life Is Rubbish. 10. To The End (ParkLife) 09. Sunday Sunday (Modern Life Is Rubbish) 08. Ong Ong (The Magic Whip) 07. When The Cows Come Home (For Tomorrow B. Side) 06. Country Sad Ballad Man (Blur) 05. Beetlebum (Blur) 04. Parklife (ParkLife) 03. The Universal (The Great Escape) 02. No Distance Left To Run (13) 01. Tender (13)
I felt that way too. They were much better than I remembered or would have otherwise assumed. I was under the impression that 13 was going to be a bit of a stinker. Boy I was wrong about that.
Blur are not a band I listen to very much but I do prefer them to Oasis... I do like Blurs willingness to experiment, it stopped them from becoming stale... 8... Leisure... There's No Other Way... 7... Think Tank... Caravan... 6... The Magic Whip... Ong Ong... 5... Blur... Beetlebum & Country Sad Ballad Man... 4... Parklife... To The End... but 'Parklife' is one of the greatest of the era... 3... Modern Life Is Rubbish... Sunday Sunday... 2... The Great Escape... The Universal... 1... 13... The only Blur album that I physically own and it's one of my all timers, critically not as good as the first two by Oasis but it's the only album I still listen to... 'Tender' would be my pick it just has all the elements that draw me to music... No Distance Left To Run, Bugman, Coffee & TV, Swamp Song, Trailerpark, Caramel & Trimm Trabb are all close behind... Blur will never be my favourite band but I do listen to them occasionally and when cherry picking my fave tracks my face will wear a smile from start to finish... Nicely done and not too far away from my own assessment...
Self titled is a slight step above their Brit pop stuff for me but maybe that's because I'm big into Indie/ alternative rock. I'd possible rate it 5/5 if not 4.5. The other albums I'd consider giving 5 out of 5 are 13 and the new Ballad of Darren.. Modern Life is Rubbish comes close. I consider all their albums exceptional except for Leisure which is just good.
Here my *slightly controversial* ranking 1. Blur (3.5/5) 2. Parklife (3/5) 3. The Great Escape (3/5) 4. Think Tank (3/5) 5. Modern Life is Rubbish (3/5) 6. 13 (3/5) (here's the controversy! i thought it was super overblown) 7. Leisure (2.5/5) 8. The Magic Whip (2/5)
1. Modern Life Is Rubbish 2. Parklife 3. The Great Escape 4. Blur 5. 13 6. Leisure 7. The Magic Whip 8. The Ballad of Darren 9. Think Tank Glad you ranked TGE so high!
