5:50 - both autofocus and IBIS require a great deal of research and development, costing millions. Much of the tech is also covered by patents, so Blackmagic developing autofocus on par with, say, Canon or Sony, looks quite improbable. Keep in mind they're sold as Cinema Cameras, which, traditionally, do not come with these features. They'd be nice additions of course, particularly for hand-held solo operation they make a huge difference.
I truly enjoyed your review, however, I disagree with the tilt screen and auto focus part. You and your followers (audience) need to understand, this camera is not made for talking heads. It is made for movies and commercials. Controlled environments. . Not RU-vid vlog. DSLR are made for those types of content. You can turn the screen any way you want those mirrorless cameras. The tilt screen is perfect the way it is now on the pocket 6K Pro. I wish content creators will learn the difference between a video camera and a cinema camera.. This camera was created for real guys shooing movies that can't afford Alexa or High end Red system. So it is not a photo camera that shoots videos. It's a cinema camera. A true cinema camera that's affordable. So be happy that Blackmagic as a company even made this 6K Pro possible. Stay safe and keep up the good work. Cheers!
I haven’t had a single person I’ve met in the field say film school was worth it. Most say it was a waste of time and taught them nothing practical since it’s all theorycrafting and analytical stuff. Very little practicality comes out of film school. RU-vid has gotten me to where I am now in the field.
@@jamesgallaccidrone They could leave if they truly wanted to. It´s not like he is holding them hostage. :D I´d say that they love working with him and because of him, they get the chance to do amazing gigs.
this is not a vlogging camera or a youtubers camera so they are not going to make it have a full articulating screen. you are supposed to be behind this camera not in front. Just saying its not called the Blackmagic Vlogging Pocket 6k Pro
Have to disagree about the screen, lots of people like myself prefer this style of articulating screen rather than the flip out kind, especially for run & gun shooters who don't need to shoot themselves
I feel like blackmagic is intentionally flipping the bird at canon with this: Having a camera that's VERY comparable to the c70, but for near 1/2 the price. And I love it.
@@RainBowBaLLerHD it would be really great, but fe rol.shutter, main DR etc, amira has real 14dr,look just at lab tests of bmpc6k at cinemaD, and C70 has the same great sensor dynamic range, rolling shutter as c300m3 + AF etc..it is on netflix list..
Good Review but I think that you aren´t completely understanding what Blackmagic thinks a "Pro" is and what you think "Pro Features" are (5:36). You act as if Blackmagic missed the opportunity of integrating AF and IS into it when in reality, Blackmagic has no interest in features like this. Pros mostly do not use IS or Autofocus, because they got Focus-Pullers and Cranes, so a real "Pro" does not need any of that. Same with the screen: they probably could have made it fully articulating but why would they. It is a cinema camera and did you ever sit in a cinema, watching a movie where the actor holds the camera and speaks into it like in a Vlog? It is NOT a RU-vid camera for filming yourself, so a flipscreen is unnecessary and just makes the whole thing more unstable. Please make sure that everyone´s on the same level in terms of what is a real professional camera operator and what isn´t.
maybe when you look at this on your PC straight it is nice and something special, but when I play it in 5K here in youtube, it just looks like every other footage like from GH5 for example...
I'm sorry but Autofocus and IBIS shouldn't be in Pro for these blackmagic cameras. I hate that that keeps coming up when talking about the "Pro" moniker.
You can't have ibis AND nd filters inside, because it is cinema camera so it is obviously better to have nd filters instead of ibis. Also AF wont be ever added to a cinema camera and it is not supposed to be there. This tool is for semi-pro cinematographers working in small teams including somebody to pull focus. Thats why i bought a7siii because i am working solo making a lot handheld shots (ibis is great) and i dont have anyone to work with manual focus so i am happy to have world level AF in a photo camera body but in future i wish to to be in situations where ibis and AF wont make me any difference- then bmpcc 6k pro will be a great choice.
Hold off. Blackmagic has acknowledged that there is a problem with the LCD on this camera, and it's unclear at the moment whether it can be fixed with firmware or requires sending in the camera.
@@dna8269 Jesus. How come they don't test it enough? Every single employee of the camera department must be very aware of NDs and IR, and still this...
I'm from poor Belarus! Watching about new cameras, when you yourself shoot with a camera from 2000, you want to cry! Present me your old camera, I will make a video to advertise your channel in every video!
I don't know about the rest of you but I'd love to see the fulltime filmmaker team review more cameras, not just the nice canon ones that come out, great review Landon!
Hi brandon, just got my 6k pro to go with my sigma. Re your DJI Rs2 can i still view and angle the screen as thinking of buying that gimble. Presently using the weebill s
Started playing with my 6K Pro for first time and its crazy simple to understand. So much easier than my canon 90d. False color is super easy and quality is frickin bonkers! Just ordered the Samsung T5 and bracket. OMG I OWN A OFFICIALLY OWN A CINEMA CAMERA!
I literally shot for 5 hrs Saturday at a skate park and Santa Monica pier with a promist filter on the lens. those internal nds are a dream. the monitor is awesome as well!
Vari-angle flippy screen would've been nice and could've won against Sony A7SIII. But then again its a cinema camera and most cinema cameras don't even have those flippy screens. Also am I the only one who finds the viewfinder ugly?
i think a fully articulating screen on the 6k pro is not a good idea. it is for profesional filmmaking, not for vlogging. this is way sturdier and a flipoutscreen just wont work for the kind of filming this camera was disigned to do. this way it can go up and down for rigs and gimbals but still be inline with the lense so you dont have to look sideways
You know it’s going to be a good when when it starts out with some b roll of unboxing Thx for posting always love you constant and look forward to you posting
Was not expecting to get choked up when the cut came to final edit 😂. Beautiful family man ❤️ obviously you are a genius cinematographer and editor too 😉 bless you and yours
@@ShijoCT650 Lol no he is very wrong. The BM has better image quality/texture and is sharper overall. Also 12 bit braw is a great codec to edit and is very smooth in post with tons of latitude. The Sony simply excels by having a smaller form factor and having better utility (Auto focus). But if you don't need those things, the BM wins every time and is comparable to cameras that are far more expensive. The 6K consistently punches above its weight and the pocket cameras are probably the best cameras ever made in terms of value per dollar. They outperform their price, drastically.
@@dna8269omg ... BM footages in this video were stunning really.. but A7S3 footage also looks good. As you said there is autofocus and inbody image stabilization and better low light performance. These all i heard from different RU-vidrs so no hands-on experience.
*This camera vs. Sony A7c + 20mm f1.8 lens?* I’m completely new to video/photography, but I’m looking at getting my first camera for RU-vid, Zoom, social media photos etc. Something that can process in Davinci on an older MacBook (2017). Quality is important, but I wouldn’t have heaps of colour grading, basically just chucking a LUT on. Which would you recommend?
@@SamuelObafemi agree. At that price point with so many great features ( hdr screen, built-in ND's,ssd recording, davinci studio, and more filmic image) the 6k pro is a EASY choice for me.
No serious filmmaker can make an outrageous statement that any one camera beats all the rest, especially after all the phenomenal releases last year and now this year. It's just flaming.
Great video! Interesting camera indeed! What is at 7:56s into the video, the background is having some kind of jello effect in the background? Seems to occur when the background is blurred and the camera is moving. It's visible in a couple of scenes. I have seen it on a few other videos as well. Anyhow I would like to have this camera, you make it so appealing ; )
Landon I love that you're using BM products more. Keep it up man! Great content as always. I need to save up for another cam, idk if I should go a7siii, fx3, bmpcc6kpro. It'll be a mine before that but man these cameras are so good
I went S3 yesterday because I needed a hybrid and don’t see the point of the FX3. BM6Kpro if you need a cinema camera with the best RAW image and don’t care about autofocus and IBIS.
@@ahmedreads1794 the hybrid part is what draws me to the s3, like big time but at the same time I've already got an a7iii for pics anyway. So far I'd have to agree on the fx3 since it doesn't have internal ND filters. I'd love the bmpcc6kpro for the colors though, like damn 😍. Idk yet though, we'll see when I can afford one lol
Very nice! Would love to see a detailed evaluation of the NDs and the color shift. I’ve seen a few worrying examples, that would be my only reason to shy away form it
CVP just did a detailed review of the 6K Pro with lots of info about the ND filters. They also talk about IR pollution, the lack of an OLPF and how that affects the image, back focusing due to the ND filters, color variance of the LCD among several camera bodies, etc. Not to take anything away from Landon's first impressions!
Great honest review! It’s one of the best, affordable, dependable, understandable, cinema quality capable camera out there! Made two back to back films earlier this with BMPC6K : one in B&W and second one in color and results were awesome! Our colorist was super happy & excited to have graded the footage coming out of BMPC6K!
@@maagfx Sure, here's the link to Teaser of the B&W film which is complete and released. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pNyxQjWYaoQ.html
@@nahomwoldesenbet4064 Hi! Yes, Mirror Mirror was shot on BMPCC6K. We had such a blast making that film. The second film which we made in color isn't ready yet and once published online I will surely share the link. Thanks
Hi sir how are you, so between the blackmagic pocket cinema 6k pro and the Panasonic s1h which one will you recommend for both wedding film and documentaries and short thanks 🙏
unpopular opinion, fully articulating is worse for handheld video. I hate it on my a7siii and I wish it was 3 way tilt instead of articulating. Kind of like how fuji did it with the xt3. Fully articulating screens get in the way of my second hand and it is often clunky when i shoot with a camera strap for that third contact point.
In Candela il y a 1 seconde Absolutely nothing more pro to this model compared to the previous one. Changing the battery type? Really??? Pros use v-mount external batteries. Internal ND? Pros use external larger ND filters in matte boxes that they can add and mix. Plus they can use gradient filter etc. Flip screen or Viewfinder? Pros use external larger monitors or external recorders like the ninja inferno etc. Guys you should know better... I have a regular 6k so i'm not a BM hater FYI but this is definitely taking the consumer for a milking cow.
did you make the full review on this camera? because i’m interested in this camera pls and the little thing that im confused is what lens should i buy for it i wish to shoot on cars & real estate. can you help pls on this? as well thank you and keep it up.
4:15 I just think BM will never cater to a vlogger, selfie market...and rightly so..it's a cinema camera. Videographers don't need this camera. Don't make 'content' with this camera, make actual films.
Beginner filmmaker here, working hard for free to make my portfolio, to raise that money for the FullTime FIlmMaker course! it has been a while since i felt excitement, thank God i ditched my last job and finaly pursued this dream! I already learned how to shoot and make a video from the free RU-vid videos that you guys provide here, so thank you for that, but i'm itching for that course baby!!
it is just me or as always magenta cast still in every BM video? (I'm Blackmagic owner...) but what a coincidence purple jacket , and blacks with evident magenta cast... Why they don't do anything about it in almost 9 years..
Auto focus is not coming man... Maybe in. Future camera but don't hold your breath for autofocus by firmware. The majority of their target market don't need autofocus either.
So if the ronin-s has 12+ hour battery life why doesn't anyone use a dummy battery off it to the black magic? Is it not enough voltage? Just curious because I know it can be done with the Sony bodies
I don't know how Black magic does it but their business strategy of free NLE software updates and free camera software updates with the initial resolve cost being half the price for a year's subscription to Adobe and their cameras being way cheaper than the competition makes no sense as to how they can afford it haha.
