Yeah, the guy is def passionate, but no substance in his video, sorry. I've commented under one of his previous videos, but he continues the same. He calls it "non-scientific", but in fact these comparisons are absolutely false. Highlight recovery, etc. - these things only valid, when you do it the only way these things are done - you take the whole range of exposures from under to over, then you can compare where both cameras fall apart. Now he shows a couple of images and tells "I feel that bmpcc 6K has more DR, hence I give it to BMPCC 6K" What kind of statement this is? But he's not alone, there are other similar dudes with "tests" of canon C70, etc. No real tests, just claims of their preference. Which is OK, I guess, we're free to express our thoughts. Just a caution to those who look for info to base their purchase on - this is not it.

I think you have a bias towards the A7s3, and the Pocket 6k has way better dynamic range. Proper exposure shouldn't be the only thing measured, as you suggest. You will have scenarios where you're indoors with shadows, but the windows have sunlight with harsh highlights. If you expose for the interior, the A7s3 cannot protect your highlights. The Pocket 6k handles this better. This scenario is covered by this video. If you feel like the a7s3 can retrieve more, download the file as he provided here and show us how to do it

@@zengze1 he did a video explaining and showing how he retrieved the highlights in post for both cameras, so to say he only shows an image is false. If you feel like you can retrieve highlights better than him, download the files and show us

little bias?? understatement man. It's just a ploy to drive traffic of BM minions so they feel better about their ownership. They're like 2-3 true comparisons on RU-vid, rest are just for minions to hang out and jack off their own opinions, no objectivity here.. But he's a cool guy so no love lost.

I’m surprised you don’t understand your needs with that kit lol I would say, do you need a full frame hybrid? Do you need the photo of the A7SIII vs the BMPCC 6k? Would you prefer internal “RAW” CODECS? Do you want greater resolution than 4k? If you’re using adapters on the 6k or an external recorder for the A7SIII you should consider the way they build out when you rig them. The 6k will essentially require a V-mount and a follow focus so those are big size considerations. Do you use Davinci? FCPX? Because a FCPX user may want ProRes RAW as an option BUT someone using Davinci could take advantage of BRAW plus it’s other flavors of compression. If you care about compactness AND not needing 8000 batteries then the A7SIII would likely be the better choice. If you care about having some more tools your cinema camera has, built in, then the BMPCC6K would be it. You require an external capture device to get RAW flavors from an A7SIII so that’s a consideration with size and compactness. You also need to consider how you’re storing this stuff because being able to use V90 SD cards or the new CF Express vs external SSD’s may be a deciding factor. If your NLE of choice and CODEC guides you to what kind of camera you want that could help you. Oh yeah, if you want the most ridiculous autofocus system you’ve witnessed in a compact camera the A7SIII is your camera. You also get Resolve Studio when getting the 6K so if you’ve been in a different NLE, the 6K could be a reason to try it. You may own both NLE’s already though. My only experience with Black Magic is the 4K but the 6k 100% looks better so image quality would not be my concern if I were you unless I wanted something a little sharper and detailed than 4k, 12 mp sensor but the trade offs are there. Crazy low light capabilities. If you wanna vlog or have a set up for quick turnaround I’d go with the A7SIII in that case. If you want an actual hybrid camera, A7SIII again. If you wanna walk into a building or use locations without looking like a PRO who should have gone through appropriate channels and not get turned around, the A7SIII is easier to hide and looks more discrete in comparison. You should really lay out your needs vs wants but I’m just unable to sleep so this is my input haha.

@@billymurphy3 lol thx for replying. All of the cams I have do what I need I guess I’m just obsessed with cameras. I don’t shoot raw I mostly shoot in 1080 and upload to RU-vid. I started to rent out my studio/gear but covid messed that up. I have a C70 on order too which should do the trick

idk if buying an extra 600 dollars monitor + $400 ssd to record raw is straight out of the box bro. Also, im not too crazy about full frame. Plenty of amazing cinematic movies out that were shot with s35.

@@Jsfilmz one does not NEED an external monitor to make A7s3 work, the whole world shoots on all intra and with skill it looks fine. BM6 is dead without at least a Vmount/rig etc. ANd if one is a professional making money from either cameras, you need monitors for both. It's not about you not liking full frame, it's about cost comparisons. Why not compare a full frame cameras price to Medium format and then call the Medium out for being expensive? parameters have to be similar in comparisons. But then again this is RU-vid where none of that matters LOL.

@@Jsfilmz yes...but i am sell to Resolve for somes years now...so, i just wait and see.... bmpcc6k is just a perfect sensor/codec/workflow for me, but form factor is a nightmare for my use, i need something more solid and rigid with less parts to assemble

@@ShimmySocol yeah when products are pushed too fast then sometimes you get inaccurate readings depending on the camera settings. this typically happens to phones but has happened to some of canons cameras so i wouldn’t be surprised if the same thing happened to the sony

I dont think much changes in that field, pocket 4k is even cheaper than a 6k, it can go 4k dci 75fps (not 100fps like in sony UHD) 4k is MFT and in order to get at least aps-c you need a metabones adapter ( because viltrox sucks and it distorts the image quality very much)

not sure why you would prefer shooting hlg when the camera manucfacturer tells you slog 3 will get you maximum DR with this camera

@@Jsfilmz I agree actually does not make sense logically, but there are other reviews which concludes the same as you on slog3 but say they fixed it using HLS instead. which is not log but should have a wide dynamic range also. perhaps sony fucked up -- again.

What about NVMe SSDs? The externals usually get 1000MB/s - even the cheap ones ... that should be fast enough for ANY codec, no?

@@buckwilde1511 usbc c on pocket 6k is gen 1 so its slower than new nvme. i tried and i wasted money lol. Maybe the next pocket will have same usb c as ursa 12k then yea nvme enclosures should work

​@@Jsfilmz The details and the noise pattern of the 6K are obviously better because of the higher resolution. That's also better for noise reduction in post "if" the signal to noise ratio is the same. For whatever reason (and that's the main thing i don't like for a back illuminated sensor with larger pixels) the noise level between 3.200 and 10.000 ISO on the a7S III is inceasing too fast. It also handles underexposure below 2 stops not that good. The super35 6K is strangely better in that regard. But at 12.800 the a7S III is great and in situations with less light i prefer using this setting with an ND rather than going with 6.400 for example. Also ISO ist not ISO on each camera ... the risk of comparing apple to oranges is high. In your premiere video the scene with the 6K (the part that matters are the side by side images at 3:03) seems to have a different light distribution. Don't know where that comes from but that makes a significant difference (also the lense is noticably wider on the 6K). Besides that ... the 6K can underexpose better (so i try to avoid that :-) In the end it matters how good the sensor performs in it's core. From than on it's only the image processing. Many complaining about the a7S III looking "digital" obviously don't have a clue what it's capable of and see "cinematic" videos from guys who don't use it right. Yes, the 6K is producing a filmic looking image more straight of the box (and i was really considering buying it). But than are fantastic guys like Joel Famularo developing the right tools to make it easy for the a7S III too. @@Jsfilmz yeah, im earning money with filming and only shoot stills for personal use. So for me the a7s3 is perfect. The r5 is much worse in Filming imo. Tested both, and while the sony can compete with the blackmagic, the canon r6 & r5 just severely lack the dynamic range to even taken seriusly. The raw is also very unusable (Size/performance). They are the better stills cams tho. Panasonic is interesting, has the very good stills AND Video, but af isnt really a thing and slwomo is very limited...

with prores raw and vlog you cant beat it with the ninja v, if you have native lenses you should be fine.

If you process the image right and set some slog3 settings a bit different than default I think it gets pretty filmic. But I understand what y'all mean.

@@leebrandt33 I mean the 6k is great... But it you have the budget the Alexa is in a different league. I am not sure what your shooting or you style but I can't believe that the Arri wouldn't be drastically better in most scenarios.

@@jessecumberledge4530 it's an amazing camera, no doubt. We may go with it, but as evidenced by this channel in comparisons, the Pocket 6k retains more highlights. You might want to check it out. As far as color, most people on RU-vid who complain about the Blackmagic color science aren't professional colorists, and are usually happy to slap a lut on the footage. I will not do that, I'll employ a professional colorist, and of the ones I know, there's not a single one of them that isn't impressed with the Gen5 color science. Again I'm not sure yet, and I certainly can't complain about the Arri mini. Great camera. We will be doing some tests before deciding
