Thanks for your appreciation of the video, it was a really good car, I sold it earlier this year and lost very little on it. I now have a Mercedes A Class, but I don't think it'll prove as cost effective as the 1 series was.

This is really one of the only good reviews on a 1 series coupe. I am really looking to buy one for my next car in a month or so, it is going to be more of a fun car I will occasionally use it to get to work! I am 22 so insurance is a factor, I am torn between getting the 125i or the 120i, the 120i is slightly more practical but it is between a 2l 4 pot and a 3l 6 pot. Not sure what to do as modifications are the same across both cars! great video thanks for the advice!

The seat belt sensor would have damp on it from the car being valeted. That's common to happen when a car is being sold and the valeter goes a little over the top. Usually the sensor is fine within a couple days.

This was my dream 2nd vehicle (after a suzuki jimny 1st car), mine is a 2011 M sport 120D & it is has nearly 80,000 miles on it and it still has yet to have a single issue with it

The seat belt sensor is located on the seat itself and if you place a parcel or bag on it, it'll light the belt warning light.

115000 miles in my 120d now - never had any problems. Always enjoy driving it and agree with your opinion. I had a comment from a police driving instructor that BMW is the best car you can own. I have winter tyres on from November to March, which are essential because it’s a rear wheel drive set up.

Hi, thanks for your feedback on this - I am due to upload another video specifically about the 1 series. I am about to trade it in at the end of the month for 'something more interesting' to use a daily driver. It's a big risk, as this 1 Series has proved faultless, but I like to try these things! Thanks for watching.

I’ve just picked up mine on Saturday, 118d coupe sport plus edition, 2L honestly I love it, such a nice car to drive! Gave it a good 350 mile drive in just over 1 day, best purchase ever, so far!

Across all the cars I've owned that one was not only the most economical one, but also the most fun for the money!

Really like the look of the coupe, though I'd be tempted to add better to change oil and filter every 10,000 miles on those engines.

I've had this car for nearly 3yrs and absolutely love it, I have the money to buy a new M3 but don't see the point with the amount of speed cameras and speed bumps on UK roads, this car is still very quick and even quicker when you switch from auto to manual in the tiptronic gearbox, I drive 5hr journeys quite regularly and it's extremely comfortable ( mine has leather seats ) mine is 2009 and I paid £6000 with only 55,000 miles on the clock. Bargain.

So refreshing to see such an open and honest review. I have a 2009 1 series 5 door at the moment and am not sure if I now want coupe or the convertible but I do like this one, especially in white. Did they sort the seat not folding issue in the end? Have you got/had a 1 series convertible

Hi, thanks for your feedback on this - Yes they did resolve the seat problem and I've not had a issue since. @@johnny-S So I thought I might just list some of my thoughts for people who might be interested in buying one. Pros: - Incredibly fun to drive. Pretty much the best in it's class. - Sporty yet comfortable to drive - Big trunk - Rear seats are usable. Wouldn't do a roadtrip in the rear though - Well built interior - Decent power ( 120i ) and good fuel economy - Good visibility Cons: - Some bad engines. For gasoline engines I'd recommend at least the 2L I4 with the direct injection (120i). - Check the timing chain before you buy. A replacement is going to cost you around 1500€. - BMW parts are expensive - The 2L I4 with direct injection still has some issues you need to watch out for: -> Spark plugs and ignition coil can fail -> Timing chain -> High pressure fuel pump can fail as well And just a sidenote to finish the wall of text: Don't look into one of these cars if you're over 6'3. You're not going to fit in comfortably. Don't get scared off though. It's still a brilliant car.

BMW's from about 1999 E46 onward suffer corrosion on various contacts, probably just bad contacts for your seatbelt warning.

I own a 2011 118d coupe for 12 months . I’ve done 7k miles and it has passed a MOT with no advisory’s . Not one single issue and I would buy this car again .

I'm about to clock up 80,000 miles in this car and it's still running perfectly. The next bill will be a big one due to new tyres and brakes, but these are standard wear and tear on any car. I'll upload an update soon.

Surprised the warning system (TPSW) never picked up the puncture. Maybe wasn't deflating fast enough to trigger it. I just got rid of a 118d hatchback. Away to pick up a 123d coupe on Wednesday from Hull, then drive it home to Scotland. Looking forward to it. Cheers for the review.

@@johnny2156 The coupe was a bucket of bolts. Ended up with a 123d m sport hatchback. I'll get it remapped next year. What a fucking speed it goes considering it's only a 2 litre engine. It's the twin turbos, makes it want to take off🚀🤯 It's da💣💣

@@johnny2156 I'll have to do a bit of research. Not too clued up on them, does the dpf make a difference? I understand the new laws in the UK will fail your car mot if it's been removed.

Wow, I own a 128i in the states and the one you have comes standard with such lower quality items. For instance, my car came standard with leather, dual zone climate, wood trim, and a i6. I got it for the same price in U.S dollars but with only 14k miles.
@SpaceTimeManipulatorSTM
@SpaceTimeManipulatorSTM 6 лет назад
In Europe I see Mercedes with cloth seats, manual crank windows and black steel wheels. All of the ones we get are luxury, but over there its just a car brand more or less. Also we don't have the 125d. I rented a 2012 one of those before I bought my 2011 128i and while mine has WAY more power, the one I rented over there was WAY fancier. My 2011 doesn't even have those seats that sit on the floor, it just doesn't have the same feel. Where you live, do you EVER see any other 128is that aren't 1Ms? I have yet to see even one. All the coupes are 135s.

@davekerr4876
@davekerr4876 3 года назад
@@lmShifty Depends on your driving style and if you enjoy an effortless driving experience or a more involved one. A typical diesel engine produces the bulk of its power between 2500>4500rpm and rarely make power to the rev limiter, great for pottering around using the midrange torque. However a petrol engine with a wider power band capable of over 7000rpm can make the engine more enjoyable & rewarding when it makes power all the way to the redline. Whilst the initial surge of a diesel is enough to make a lot of people giggle an think a car "feels" fast, there can be a lot more fun with an engine that has linear power delivery that feels that if there was no rev limiter it would keep screaming to go FASTER
