Here is the video that I should have uploaded over a year ago! Its the final conclusion to my ownership of the BMW 1 Series Coupe (118D) that I bought as an 'experiment' in cost effective car ownership.

I still have my 118d coupe, 130k miles and going strong, no issues except the usual brake pads, shox etc. Not a single rattle in the interior. Lovely to drive too 😊👍

Do it still have it? My 118d sport plus turns 11 today. 153k and still driving beautifully. I've owned it from new abd am keeping it until it stops.

Why is it in the UK we tend to think that once a car gets to 100k we assume it's at the end of it's life? Modern cars can easily do double that as long as they're serviced and maintained

I had a fully loaded 123D E82 new back in 2010. 3 months ago I picked up the most basic spec 118D E82 I could find. Brilliant little car; absolute loving it. Unlike the E90 330i it shares a driveway with....

@Lee the tyres are run flats so quite dear..but I have put normal Tyres on the front nexens which are around 80 quid and last ages!
@iansmith8247
@iansmith8247 2 года назад
@Lee yes you can! But it’s risky ,most punctures happen to back tyres because the front tyres flick nails up and they end up in the back tyres..I would try to get the msport model because the chassis is a lot better!

@@iansmith8247 It's not advised to mix runflats with normal tyres on a car, much safer to swap out all especially in the winter

I wonder how much mine will depreciate. But it's so worth the cost. One of the best first cars I can imagine. BMW really nailed it with this car. Well apart from some engine options...

Really strange logic, you know the car will do another 100k and it will but you trade it in. Everytime you trade in you take the risk on the replacement car being fault free and forget PCPs just buy the car, when you have paid for it your monthly payment is zero apart from tax/insurance

You should mention the infamous timing chain issues that every owner will certainly have with no exceptions
@dopedrums
@dopedrums 2 года назад
That's for 2010 model only, no? Also, when this problem revealed itself I think BMW offered a fix for it too. Might be worth checking if the car you intend to buy got that sorted by BMW on warranty.

That can’t be for every engine option though?
@davidviner4932
@davidviner4932 2 года назад
It's the upper timing chain on the N47 that was the weak point, listen for the rattle at the back of the engine on cold start up if you are worried
@joshbatt7820
@joshbatt7820 Год назад
Yea you're right. My engine went bang at 127,000 miles. It was the infamous timing chain. Just got another engine put in and had the timing chain replaced before fitting. Also don't forget the ABS sensor problem that can't be replaced easily as the ABS sensors are inbuilt in the rear drive shafts. So you have to replace the whole rear drive shafts.

A crime to only service it twice with the amount of mileage you did. Also, by 'service' I assume you mean two oil services? It would cost more than £230 for a full service at a BMW dealer. Talking from experience/owner of a 125!
@johnny-S
@johnny-S 3 года назад
Fair and valid points. I serviced it whenever the car dashboard told me to, and always used a BMW main dealer. It's also worth keeping in mind the motorway work is a lot easier on a car than town or city driving - as its less use of the gearbox, suspension etc. Thanks for watching.
@PureSpirit347
@PureSpirit347 3 года назад
Johnny S Agreed...motorway driving does indeed put a lot less stress on the engine. BMW changed their service intervals to appeal to fleet buyers, needing less servicing and therefore more appealing. Appreciate you replying. L

@johnnys I bought a 2014 plate ex inchcape 320D F31 touring with 71k on the clock; it’s fully loaded £9k extras adaptive M chassis; full sport auto gearbox; active cruise with auto braking; was £38k new! I bought it £13.5k at just over 3yrs old; absolute bargain!! Love it to bits! Ever since I’ve owned it, as well as full dealer history; I’ve changed the oil every 8k or there about s using Shell Helix Ultra Professional as that’s the recommended oil! Car drives like brand new with 134k miles at time of writing this! Other than wear & tear; the car had the EGR cooler replaced twice under recall; never cost me a penny! I’m going to do what your mate with the 330 did & get a remap; but on mine from 163hp to 210hp plus the gearbox stage 2 flash next month (June 2021) best wishes

@@johnny-S Don't stick to the BMW dash intervals as they can be 20k, 13k servicing at the most will ensure your timing chains and mechanisms don't wear prematurely along with the turbo, don't forget the warranty period is long gone on these cars now
