Since BMW introduced the M badge for their sporty models below the actual M cars, you regularly hear people complain about the fact that non-M cars shouldn’t have the sacred M-letter in their badge, just like the facelifted M550i. But this "normal" 5 series comes with better performance than the legendary E60 V10 M5 with its F1-derived engine. So lets see how the M550i performs.

4.4 liter is huge V8? I have a 4.3 liter V6. Too me a huge V8 is above 6.6 liter.

Great video guys, I love your channel! M550i is most definitely an interesting and compelling proposition from BMW. A question I'd like to ask is, when you're applying performance tune to such cars, can you also remove the electronic speed limiter? I realized such is not the case with this particular car but is it generally possible to do that with the tune? If so, how difficult or complicated it is to remove the limiter in an x50i BMW product? I can't help but thinking with 600hp+ tune that car would most certainly beg for more than Vmax > 260kmh. Thanks, and have an awesome day.

Great detailed video. So, convince me, why should i get a racechip and not an ECU remap? The remap is much cheaper (offers start around 450 EUR) and it delivers +154hp +104nm, considerably more than the racechip. Both methods will cause loss of warranty when the dealership detects tuning has been applied. One of the chip tuners told me they can hide the tune. But others have said this is nonsense and any significant increase in performance can even be seen in values of the stabilization and traction control systems.

If they really looking deeply into the data BMW should be able to detect it. Maybe not a simple BMW dealer, it BMW Headquarters will be able to see if they search for it

@@ifeanyiikemefuna3706 I wanted the M550i but, I travel 50 miles round trip to work and I reviewed the insurance. I changed my idea and bought the M540i that was fully loaded. With the increase in CPO vehicles...it wasn't worth it.

Great video and again an awesome offering from RC. I have this very RC installed two weeks back and you can really feel the difference in pull/torque delivery when it’s in Race Mode...Just curious why not measuring 0-62mph or 0-100kmh in your videos but only 100-200kmh. Any legal, regulatory or commercial reasons?

Thanks Burak & glad to hear you're happy with the results after installing our product! The reason why we're not doing 0-100 / 0-62 runs runs is not for any of the reason you've suggested. It's simply because it's very hard to produce valid numbers since every run depends on so many factors we can't fully influence (road conditions (since in Germany weather is very unstable), tires on the specific car, AWD / FWD / RWD, driver skills (especially on manual cars), et cetera). This means that with some cars, you'd have to do a lot of runs to get valid results for stock and tuned which puts a lot of strain on the cars components. On the other hand, a 100-200 run doesn't depend that much on all of the factors above and can be repeated quite easily (in Germany at least thanks to our unlimited Autobahn). I agree that with an AWD car like the M550i, you could do them quite easily but if we do it for one car, we'd have to do it for every car :)

@@RaceChipChiptuning 100-200 should be the gold standard. Most of us care about freeway, highway take over / passing performance, AKA on the go acceleration. And indeed 0-100 is extremely hard reliably repeat on different locations, drivers, tires, etc... e ego that you guys said.

Ask your dealer about Dinan. They actually work with BMW and do chip tunes. Your warranty is switched over and covered by them.

A stock M550i's time is about 3.8 seconds from 0-60 mph, IIRC. I would not be surprised if a tuned one could probably tackle the 3.5-second mark...maybe even less? It's insane the amount of power in a non-fully-fledged M car.

I just bought a used 2020 M550i with 13K miles on it. Love the car. Looking to do a modest upgrade with a computer tune, and opening the intake and exhaust. I'm considering a performance air filter, aluminum or carbon fiber Turbo intake, performance down pipes and exhaust with catalytic converter since it is required in Texas. I'm also considering an enhanced oil cooler to keep the heat manageable. My concern is I don't want to increase performance too much where it stresses other components of the engine and cause them to fail.

With your suggestions, the engine shouldnt be stressed too much, but an upgraded downpipe might throw check engine light codes even if it has a cat. To fix that you can go with a tune or a spacer for the o2 sensors to keep them from throwing the fault. Overall tasteful upgrades for the car, planning on doing a front mounted intake for mine to better hear those turbos, let me know if youve done them already! Id enjoy hearing your experience.

You can check the time we've measured with a pre-LCI M5 in one of our older videos: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NQGuyEr-YEs.html However, the times are not 100% comparable since we've switched from qStarz GPS to Dragy in the meantime and every GPS device measures in a slightly different way - so take the M5s time with a grain of salt ;)

Hello Lucas, at 9:38 I was referring to a suspension upgrade because this is the part where you notice the difference to an M5 the most. In our experience, it often makes sense to simply use sport springs e.g. by Eibach instead of a complete coilover set-up. While the latter certainly makes the car even more precise and capable on a track, it often really hurts everyday usability since most of the are too harsh.

Btw, i Love the 2020 version, because the 2021 front and back light looks like front Corolla and back lexus 350 and furthermore the Best part about 2020 is the crackles, pops and burbles, like a Huracan vs 2021, they are done, its sounds flat with no pops etc🤨 Fully loaded 2020 is 57k w miles in teens

93 OCT = US 98 RON / ROZ = Europe Please Note: No issues with using better fuel, power will increase slightly (recommended) However, vice versa if you use 91 OCT / 95 RON/ROZ

Liegt einfach daran, dass wir bspw. in den USA ca. dieselbe Menge an Kunden haben wie in Deutschland und somit mit deutschem Content nur einen Bruchteil unserer Interessenten erreichen. Trotzdem gut möglich, dass bald auch mal was auf deutsch mit schwäbischem Touch kommt ;)

We're getting that questions on a regular basis but we're not doing it since it depends too much on factors we can't really influence (road conditions, tires, FWD/RWD/AWD, drivers skills especially on manual cars, etc…). Hence, you would have to do a lot of runs to get valid results for tune and stock and this just doesn't pay off and wears the cars components too much in our opinion, especially since the 100-200 km/h runs are way more meaningful for engine power anyways.

@@RaceChipChiptuning Thank you kindly for the reply. I understand the basis of your testing however, most people don't have roads like the Autobahn where as a 100-200 km/h run is more meaningful. Most people like myself live in US cities and do light to light street driving with some highway driving ,where as 0 to 60 is the greatest performance factor considered. I think making and investment in doing 0 -60 runs regardless of the challenges you've mentioned would only showcase your product that much more in turn, making racechip a more appealing option over competitors like Burger tuning JB4.

Voll Care the next model year for cars usually comes out in fall. The 2021 BMWs started being delivered in July this year.

Well, the car actually is a 2021 model in US logic. In Europe, cars which are released 2020 are called 2020 instead of 2021. Whatever year, car is clearly an LCI model as you can see in the video ;)

Liegt eventuell auch an der Sprache? Vermutlich auch an der Tatsache, dass es in den USA deutlich mehr zugelassene 50i existieren? Leistung und Zeiten sind, wie im Video zu sehen, in Deutschland entstanden. Gibt mittlerweile auch einen Kanal in Deutsch, welcher sich aber noch im Aufbau befindet: ru-vid.com
