@@24k__J We've never had an issue with ours haha; like they said in the video though, messing with the cars performance will bring issues but I'm going to guess this one was just a driver error

@@thymme7508 probably quicker, given the instant power transmission provided by the electric motors. But it still loses because of battery's weight and because electrics don't perform so well above the 100 kph.
My wife runs a 330e as her company car, it’s only doing 26 miles pure Electric but most town miles mean we only put petrol in monthly, previous car was 330D and honestly I have always been surprised by how economic due to our lifestyle, and how quick the 330e feels especially for A road overtake ❤
I love all your videos. How do you feel about sharing the top speed at the end of the 1/2 mile. I know it will vary with all the cars but it is nice to see. Thanks for all the amazing videos.
I have a stage 1 330e and I honestly love it because it's the cheapest straight line performance car I think of. I pootle to work and back on electric only mode then if I want a bit of speed in xtraboost mode it absolutely flies! Mine was dyno'd at 415bhp in xtraboost which is crazy all things considered. The downside of the car is that you have to be careful about oil temp - if you've been running in electric only and suddenly want to boot it, you have a cold engine and have to wait 5 mins for it to warm up. Overall I love it though, I average well over 50mpg all of the time but have enough power to surprise 95% of cars on the road. Also - it does have launch control its just extremely finicky to get working!
Seeing all this heated debate about the 330e, M340i, and even the M340d, I'm struck by the sheer passion we all share for BMW's engineering marvels. Whether it's tweaking the 330e for jaw-dropping performance or appreciating the M340i's balance of power and grace, it's clear we're all in this for the love of the drive.
I have the B58 in my M140i and my dads has the S58 in his M3 X Drive. Amazing Engines. Even if a 4 pot was faster I wouldn’t want it over the sound and smoothness of the straight 6.
Yes absolutely props to it. You’re comparing non M, economy car with 4 cylinders to a 4.4L V8 from an M car? Yeah that’s incredibly impressive. The year of manufacture has nothing to do with it
I live in Austria and therefore I speak German and I love the fact that Daniel basically says "This time I got away pretty well" and then the carwow editors just went and said I am the best at this which I think is pretty funny😂
@@cheesecakemilkshake8043 but revs 1/3 lower and only 1/3 as much fun and engaging to drive. Peak torque is higher on the diesel, sure, but it disappears very quickly as the revs increase. If you take fuel economy out of the equation then there is not much reason to pick the 340d over 340i unless you want to tow a caravan… that was my point in the USA where mpg matters less due to lower fuel costs in general.
@@elnoel1220 I've had a m340i for 9 months, tuned it to stage 1, and then got bored and sold it. Bought a M440d, now tuned to approx 390 HP and 780 NM. It's in every way a better car (with the right diesel, like BP Ultimate) than the i, except the sound. But that B58 sound just gets irritating over time if you use it as a daily. I prefer the diesel because it always is at the sweet spot and ready to deliver the torque. To get the same acceleration feel in the petrol version i had to shift back 2 or even 3 gears. To me the m340i really felt weaker, except at very high revs were it had a relatively short power burst. Btw: The torque does not dissapear quickly at all on the diesel, it keeps pulling up to 260 km/h because it shifts right back onto the maximum torque sweetspot. The M340i does not do that, that torque bandwidth feels smaller compared to the diesel. Mostly because the diesel has more torque at 2500 RPM than the petrol has at 6000 RPM at it's maximum. The M340i only started to feel quick from 3750 RPM up to 5800 RPM but needs to reach the higher end to built it up. The diesel is fast from 1200 to 4500 RPM and feels quick during the whole bandwidth. Do the math. I could not keep up with my friends M5 (G30, original) in the M340i, but now with the tuned M340d it is more or less an even score.
@@Timetraveller101more a case of Bmw U.K. choosing, as they did with taking all the 5-series diesels off sale - even though you can still buy a 5-series diesel in Europe. But yes influenced by average CO2 over all sales.
Wonderful lesson for all the kids who think torque is more important than hp. The M340i has 40hp more than the diesel but 220Nm less torque, and yet, was clearly and consistently faster. It's the hp that counts in a drag race. Torque is great for towing.
Actually torque and revs lead to horsepower. {HP = (Torque (lb-ft) * RPM) / 5252}. For all day drive torque is better for acceleration because you don't have to shift back 2 or 3 gears to be fast. Diesels tend to have a higher average power delivery than a petrol equivalent because they have more power over the total rev bandwidth. So the same car that has a 300 HP diesel engine is faster than a petrol version with the same maximum 300 HP. It's the average power that counts, and a higher torque means more average power. Torque is for acceleration, horsepower is to hold the maximum speed.
@@wardeniall yeah I have no idea what that guy is talking about. You get a stiffer chassis, an M differential and a sweet sounding 6-cylinder engine in the M340i. It's not even a debate.
@@Carlos1180 this exactly. You either have to get a tuning box or send the ECU to Femto in Finland for a bench unlock. If you're looking to tune, the cars built before June 2020 are the way to go. And it's important that they haven't received ECU updates after that date, else they're locked too.
It’s actually 2k…😂… ecu needs to be unlocked (1k) THEN the 2 remaps (1k). BUT in reply to your question, it’s actually a decent map (not a generic one) tailored to your car on a dyno. I’d pay 1k for it on mine but 2k is to much
@@funfzylinder the range is 300 miles, electric and petrol, I am showing about 40mpg - it does have a small fuel tank 45l - and the electric seems to be about 25miles. cost about £5 to fully charge the battery at a public point - cheaper at home so depends on what driving you do - as to the fuel consumption - as a daily its amazing, smooth - powerful - great tech and looks really good
£1000 for a tune is ludicrous. I paid £200 for a fully bespoke tune on my Big BHP Seat Ibiza PD130. Was road tuned did 5 renovations of the map. On a hybrid turbo. To pay £1000 is crazy
Ive got the diesel and I find that it performs better in a straight line with the gearbox in normal. Sport for the gearbox is better if you're changing speeds constantly
I’m already bought a 330e The best car in the world (speaking about compromises) Family saloon 20km/l in journey 300hp drift car for fun Pure elettric for everyday trip !!!!!!!🎉
I’m on the Good Year Eagle F1 A6 and it’s an absolutely superb tire. Still quiet after 1.5 years with incredible traction and much cheaper than Michelin PS5s.
I got an f11 but you should always run a diagnostic and clear all the faults. Then do a drag race, you'll see the results. It goes for all the vehicles on drag race. Hope you take a note on this Mat
M340i is the ultimate car... For mortals. It fills everything you want. Its classy, sporty and refned. The choice of someone that enjoys a driving machine.
Had my 330E for over 2 years now and still enjoy driving it. Company car so no mapping but it’s quick enough as a daily. Great vid guys. V entertaining
@@24k__Jis got a B48 in it, you might be surprised by that 2.0 litter engine. Is much better than the B58 in economy, and it barely outruns the B48 (both tuned) considering the difference
Might be random as hell this but can we get more top-gear rolling races. Just, highest gear possible and see what it does, that was actually really fun lmao
I got my 2023 330e and I am really happy with how it drives. The best car for my needs of a city commuter car that I can charge overnight. I rarely do a drag race but can beat 98/100 cars on lights and 99/100 on flying start. However, I need to give another try to the launch control, since it didnt work I assumed it didnt have one but I never tried to add the switched off traction control to the mix.
great test, Ive got a 340i and also a 340d and the 340i has averaged 34mpg with the 340d at 44mpg. When ur in the mood the 340i is best but for everyday the 340d wins....
M340i for everyday wins, that’s obvious. 340d is a dull purchase, want to get an economy/performance - buy a tesla, but when you already spend a bunch on money for 3 serious, please don’t tell us about these 10mpgs. I’ve tested 340i and 340d, on highway it’s 1-1.5l difference, diesel with shitty sound, no emotions and vibrations is so idiotic
@@Manu-Official You know torque is meaningless. Only HP matters for acceleration. Especially when you consider that the torque on the wheels is the same, because of the gearbox... Try racing a truck engine. 2000Nm, but 400hp. It will go just as fast as any other 400hp car (assuming the same weight)
330i is faster than the 330e 0-60. The 330i has 258hp while the 330e has 292hp but the 330i on paper still does 0-60 in 5.2sec whereas the 330e does it in 5.4sec, probably due to it being heavier. Would have loved to see the 330i in this comparison, very underrated and sounds beautiful as well.
I have a BMW M850 XDrive. Year 2019. After purchase, everything worked. I went for chip tuning and popcorn making. Then I went to a mechanic who replaced the battery in the front of my car (technical) and did some digging because I wanted to have a BMW Me. Car from the USA and he came to the conclusion that he wouldn't do it. I picked up the car, the radio was Sirus (America), it was impossible to change the time, it was New York. I did a reset from the panel in the car. But what's most interesting. Previously, I had a different car sound with eco and switching to sport+. Now I don't feel any difference when starting the car. And there was a different characterization. The flaps open. and they are open all the time. Tuning has been undone. I called the dealership and they said that the flaps should open in comfort and sport+ modes. However, they are still open. The guy who previously converted from the US to the EU accessed my car remotely and doesn't know what could be wrong. I have a cable for remote connection. the steering wheel also behaves similarly in all modes. I have the impression that the car is in sport mode. Changing to comfort and eco does not cause any difference in the behavior of the car and the steering wheel works just as hard. The only difference is in sport+, where the car actually revs higher. I've read that people have various problems after replacing the battery. technical, but I haven't read about a case like mine anywhere. Please help.
