This is by far the best RU-vid video on this subject. Thanks for your work. HOWEVER, you should mention that the T30 screws are self tapping. The actuator we bought was not tapped and evidently this is common.
Great video. I have replaced all 4 and replaced all window regulators several times over the years. Original owner, 2006 bmw 325i. There is always something to replace. Only if you were my neighbor.
Wow! Is it Carlos? I can’t remember. We typed earlier in another job. I was dreading this repair as another RU-vid mechanic invoked horrendous measures, making it look untenable, dropping the window / taping it up and more. You have empowered me once again so adeptly, to handle this repair myself. I might buy some sound deadening material for the door inside. They have this stuff used at gun ranges that really cuts road noise a bunch. You’re gifted with these videos. Please keep posting. My 14 year old manual 3 series wagon with sport package I want to keep forever. But needless to say-so many peripheral items like this fail at 200,000 miles where I’m at now. Thanks again!
Similar to another comment below the vehicle I was working on has the exterior lighting under the doorhandle. And that wire is affixed to the actuator in two places with some pretty strong tape. Once I was able to get it apart the actuator came out and I was able to re-purpose the clip from the replacement actuator to a fix the wire in place as I’m sure if it’s not out of the way it could interfere with the window going up and down. Thank you so much for the video. The driver side actuator is also malfunctioning on this car so I’m going to see if I can muster up the courage to do that one which I know is more difficult.
This was an excellent video for this specific repair (ie rr door actuator). Thank you. for my 2008 328xi sedan, there was another wiring harness attached to actuator but not actually apart of it, once i removed it "also" from the actuator attachment (2 places) then the process was as explained. to install the new actuator, i could not get the harness back into the exact position but since it was just an attachment anyway, I taped with gorilla to the actuator to ensure it did not interfere with window up/down functionality. Otherwise video covered everything. i did order the removal tools and replacement snap on and needed to use 4 of about 50. All is well no more noise when locking or unlocking with remote. thanks again.

It works, but now the door wont open from the outside. Tested it on the other passenger side and noticed that when I pull the handle, some kind of latch moves on the working side but not the new and fixed side.

You should not have to break anything. I know it's difficult but you should be able to pull the door panel back just enough to get to the door latch mechanism and open the door and repair it.
not that i dont appreciate the effort but there is a wire that needs to be detached in 2 places b4 taking out the actuator. diyers need to be aware in order to avoid damage.

I had just fixed my driver side door by replacing the soft door closer with a new one but the problem that i'm having is that the computer doesn't recognize the door is opened, Do i need to code the new soft door closer to my BMW ? everything else is works fine i'm just having that issue that my door isn't recognizing being opened . I'm not familiar with that system. However, what I would do is plug in my scanner and see if the body module can see the door switches. It may be that is just a coding issue. Or you may some problem with the door sensor or wiring. But you should be able to see that with the scanner. Good luck!
They are the same style. But as are they exactly the same part number wise I would most likely say no. Look at the part numbers between front and rear and see
Hi mate, I have a BMW 320D (2007). My front passenger door is locked shut, completely. It won't unlock from outside or inside, I've managed to remove the door card (with the door shut) and would like to try this method. Any advice for how I can actually open the door as I've tried everything. Cheers!
What could be wrong if the problem is that the door will not lock? When pressing the remote to lock the car the 2 back doors don’t lock and it makes this ratcheting sound. However when I manually press down on the lock on one door it goes down to lock but on the other door it does not press down all the way to lock the door. Could it be the actuator? Or something else? Thanks!
Thank you for the video. I am a little stuck. I am replacing the left door actuator on my 2007 328i sports wagon. After removing the 3 T30s and unlatching from the door handle, the actuator does not budge. Are there other things that need to be removed? I do not want to push too hard and break other things. Deopersad Jaipersad It should come off relatively easy. It might be the seal that’s holding it together just pull on it. You should be able to take it off
Carlos, wasn’t it difficult getting that cable hooked up to the actuator inside the door? Does it just snap in? Or do you have to pull the spring or create tension on the actuator to get that cable installed? The dealer sold me the wrong actuator-for the wrong door; the big kidney shaped hole pattern is inverse. So I have to get that worked out today regardless. Thanks
Jonathan, It's very easy to connect the cable to the actuator. It just pops in. If you look at 4:14 in the video you will see I just pulled it straight out. No contorting of the hands...lol.
Nicoya Carlos, you weren’t kidding! I got it installed in seconds, feeling like a master Ferrari mechanic for a moment in time, lol. I can see why you didn’t obsess on this cable as it really does snap right in, and was easy to install. Incidentally, I’m installing massive amounts of dynamat (generic) and focals in those doors. They’re incredible.
So after i finished the repair I got a service lift light on the dash and none of the electrical components work. Windows locks trunk... the music turns on. And also i have to press the start button twice now before the engine turns... and the engines turns slowly. I’m not driving it but I was able to run a diag and received 54 error codes kind of saying the computer isn’t communicating. That’s as far as I got any tips on what could be wrong
Make sure your battery is in good condition and fully charged. Clear all codes and see what comes back and repair as needed. Also, make sure you have not blown any fuses.
Can u help me? My rod clip and rod got knocked off when doing a regulator. Does the rod get pushed behind the black lever and push the plastic part? Right now when u push unlock my button does not go up or down?
Sounds like the door lock rod is not installed correctly. Check your work. The rod connects directly to the door actuator. Make sure you did not break it.
Yo like I got an issue where my passenger door unlocks and locks perfectly fine but I can't physically open the door from inside and outside of the car what could be the problem?
@@InitechAuto oh OK I thought this mightve been the case and aslo the part about the match I wanted to say to you is that when you lock the car the latch will go down to a certain extent (in level) however the hatch on the passenger door has gone a tad bit too much in compared to the rest of the latch locks
hiii ! i am sooo dumb w cars- plz help a 22 year old girl out 🥺 my car shop quoted me upwards of 3k for all these lil tiny tasks im just tryna do myself. windshield wiper fluid pump needs replacing, alr checked the fuses, so ye grr. headlight bulb needs replacing, im not gon touch the engine ill let car shop fw that one for me. but my power lock. my rear right door, both door handles work perfectly. i just can’t unlock that door w my key, or w the power lock button on my dash. i’m assuming that means replace the actuator. the new windshield fluid pump comes in tmr, im tryna j do all of this at once so i can get my car to pass maryland inspection, so i can get it registered, n yea. 2008 bmw 328xi, 92k miles, got it for 7k cash, rlllllllly not tryna have to pay a car shop multiple thousands to fix this stupid thing. also- follow up question- for my headlight, it has a xenon bulb in it. i think i can j order a normal headlight bulb n hand it to my mechanic like here 🤗 you deal w it- would that make their job harder ? i’ll j order the xenon bulb if so. they quoted me 250 to order that bulb n replace it, that seems fair to me. but this actuator- plzzz tell me that’s all ima needa replace if that one door doesn’t unlock w my key :,) a.co/d/gfg0sTc do you think this actuator would fit it ? somebody in comments on amazon said the screws r tapped, that is not tapped ? can i not just literally screw it in super hard n tap it straight into the plastic ? would that actually be a issue ? how do i make sure a actuator IS tapped ?? i am so slow w this shit j thank u for dealin w me 😅 also GREAT vid- u seriously made me confident enough i’m convinced i CAN pull that whole damn door off if needed, n it’s gon b EASY 😭
Sorry to hear you are having trouble with your car. From what you are describing. Yes, it sounds like you have a bad door latch actuator. As far as the actuator and bolt holes are concerned, You should be able to screw them in. The bolts are self-tapping style. For the headlight, I would go with what the repair shop recommends.
@@InitechAuto I FIXED IT BOTH MY BACK DOORS LOCK NOW !!! i am SO happy, $30 part on amazon, i CANNOT believe car shops rlly b charging ppl upwards of 1k for that. jeeeez. i didnt even break ONE door clip ☺️ and i am doin headlight myself, $100 for 2 xenon bulbs, BUT there is a access panel right in the fender liner. also CANNOT believe car shop j told me “we have to take bumper off, so $512.” JUST for the labor. like NO THE FUCK YOU DO NOT. thank you so so much for your help, saved me a LOT of $ 🫶
Next time explain WHY you are changing this! My back door wont lock, makes a clicking/ratcheting sound when the doors lock. Could this be the Actuator?
