This is helpful if you want to replace a front shock of a BMW E90 etc.I have seen few different ways of doing this but you are not shown every details so you may struggle at some point if you are doing it first time.I am doing one at present and it took me almost an hour to undo steering track rod end.It is easy if you have torque gun but with the spanners only it could be a nightmare especially when all bolt threads are rusty.The track rod ball joint nut was so tight to undo that is why it took me so long to remove. Hopefully rest is not difficult completing the job tomorrow

Using that Milwaukee impact driver on the spring compressors is exactly what not to do, and how you never hurt yourself

Your spring compressors were making me feel uncomfortable. I have a pair of Sykes Pickavant double hook type that bolt/clamp to the spring and even they give me the willies! Thank goodness yours held. I hate doing shockers. Good video though. 🖒🖒

I'm doing mine at the moment, yesterday the whole thing exploded in my face... One of the compressors missed the end of my nose by a hairs width and hit the roof of the garage. I'm taking them to a garage with a proper compressor to buy them back together. Wkimgbtk work this week 😂

hi great video thanks, couple of questions: 1 - is it ok to use an approved used strut instead of a brand new one when changing these? 2 - do you need to change them in pairs at the front? or not necessary? thanks
@aaanton11
@aaanton11 Год назад
They are cheap to buy new so I wouldn't go 2nd hand, and I would replace both but you don't have to, Link to Front Shock Absorbers on amazon, £74 amzn.to/2WaDk3h Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠

Hi, Thanks for showing` got to do one of these today. BMW E90 3 SERIES 2008 When you disconnect the ABS sensor will this trigger a fault code if battery left connected, And if I disconnect the battery would i have to use a scan tool to let the ECU know the battery is reconnected I never seen you open up the split where pinch bolts goes this makes it easier for strut to go back in
@aaanton11
@aaanton11 Год назад
I don't disconnect the abs sensor, I remove it from the retaining rubber but it all stays connected. if you do disconnect it there will only be a fault if the ignition is turned on whilst disconnected. Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠

@@aaanton11 ignition on, does that mean 2 turns of the key will show fault code ? or if engine running then it will show fault code.? Here is what happened the other night in the garden replacing the leg, you couldn't make this up, We had to leave bottom cover tray on due to jack access, Taken a lot longer than we thought, dam pinch bolt would not come out, tried air gun ,air gun and tapping other end at same time, tried ratchet, and tapping other end at same time, dam thing just kept spinning , had to be left in. I hit a metal wedge into the split gap to open it slightly to get the leg looser. A couple of other issues getting the leg out` then the dreaded temperature dropped rapidly from 17.30 pm could not feel toes and fingers that night, torch batteries went down, got extension and light, Extension to short while looking around for another , I then fell off 2 big steps, heard a load pop ` hit the floor landed on elbow and shoulder to protect my head , felt sick with shit load of pain ,went in the house , son applied cold press then bandaged the ankle. hobbled back out with walking stick we joined two extensions together, carried on with the job in hand while I guided him what to do. After another 3 dam hours, job a good one, finished 21.30 pm. yep , other issues with bolts ` freezing our dam knackers off that evening in the low minus, Hospital next morning , fractured ankle, now on crutches with a form fit boot fitted ,minimum 4-6-weeks in boot then many weeks trying to get ankle back to normal, But worth it, start a job finish the job, Here`s the funny part, we replaced the cars broken leg to end up braking mine, well ankle lol

Great job. Thanks. stupid question. Can the strut or shock create growling noise by the friction with brake disk or other rotating parts during reducing speed by applying brake, if the peripheral parts are worn? There is no wear or tear around disk by visual check, but there IS a noise, or friction noise but not a squeak. Advice is much appreciated.
@aaanton11

that would normally be worn brake pads or discs, possible wheel bearing issue, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
