We had this 2014 BMW 520Dvisit one of our MotoFyx car repair workshop for an annual service along with a concern relating that of the suspension system of the car. Overtime, the overall driving comfort had deteriorated, especially along uneven road surfaces and hence the car owner reached out to us for assistance.
Upon a detailed inspection of the car by our expert technicians, the front and rear shock absorbers were observed to have significantly worn out, requiring immediate replacement. Further, the front & rear stabiliser link rods had also become weak, needing replacement.
*What are shock absorbers?
- Shock absorbers are designed to absorb or dampen the compression and rebound of the springs and suspension
- They control the unwanted and excess spring motion, while keeping the car tyres in contact with the road at all times
*Symptoms of weak shock absorbers:
- Excessive bouncing, swerving & diving
- Uneven tyre wear
- Vibrations from the steering
- Leakage in the shock absorber
*Consequence of driving with weak shock absorbers:
- Instability while driving
- Swerving
- Uneven wear of tyres
- Unpleasant clunking / squeaking noise
*Solution:
- The front and rear shock absorbers,kit & mountings were replaced.
- The faulty link rods were also replaced with new link rods.
- Upper & lower arm were replaced
- Wheel alignment along with annual service was performed
