These factory taillights from 1998 in clear look the best of all e38 taillights. The clear lens in front of the lens makes it appear smooth like the panel around it and it blends in with the car. The 99-01 taillights look weird on e38s. Subtle differences.

I'm gonna get one of these someday...I friggin' will. Gotta take the chance while their prices haven't skyrocketed yet, as good examples are getting rarer and rarer. The V8 is pretty nice too, but the V12 is THE target to aim at.

+YAMAHA - BRATISLAVA Tank you! Well, you are right about the GPS, it was available and this car doesn't have it. The cooled seats and heated wheel was not availiable in 1997, same with rear door airbags (but there is curtain airbags). The trunk does have "soft-close", but not automatic close (also not in 1997), and the seats are the comfort seats, not the "conture" seats, with the adjustable thight support (those are very rare on the 7-series, but standard in the e39 M5).

Yes, the engines are pretty much bulletproof and the have chain instead of belt, so no expensive changes needed. I have sold the car to a friend of mine, so I can't make more videos about it right now. The rear seats dont fold down very much, just 5 cm. or so.

Thanks! Yes, they know what they are doing! I payed 65 000 kr (approx. 7 400 EUR) about 3 years ago. I absolutely LOVE this car, goddamn it! I'm gonna get one soon, can't wait for it! A few questions, though: 1- In the beginning of the video, you mention it being "reconditioned"; did you rebuild the engine? 2- I noticed she lacks the "750 iL" emblem in the trunk. I've also heard you could order them debadged from factory; is this the case with your car? 3- Over six years since this video was made...do you still have it? Anyway, sorry for the disturbance. :P Congrats on the car, it's a masterpiece :)
@Oedegaarde
@Oedegaarde 4 года назад
Hello! It is a very cool car - especially with the options this one has. Well, the reconditioning is just directly translated from Swedish, it just means it's been detailed inside and out. The drivetrain has been very reliable and no need for any rebuilds. The car was ordered debadged from the factory - discreet and stealthy :-). I don't own the car anymore, it was sold back in 2015 if I recall correctly. I drive a Tesla Model 3 now, just switched from my "old" Tesla Model S. A V12 is fantastic, but electric is the future :-)
@Roddy_Zeh
@Roddy_Zeh 4 года назад
@@Oedegaarde I see! Hahah, I thought it was an issue with the engine that needed a rebuild, lol! Glad it ain't the case :P I'm sorry, I don't know if I'd have the courage to sell it...well, except if I really needed, like due to family issues and the like. But I'd probably feel sad and want to get another one, hahah! Are you still in contact with the current owner, still keep up with how it's being maintained and the like? I can see she's so well-cared, it's definitely a car to preserve, already a collector's item in my book! ^^
@Oedegaarde
@Oedegaarde 4 года назад
@@Roddy_Zeh Well, I just have too many cars and not enough time to drive them. I don't know who owns it now, but I hope it's still well cared for. I would really like to get an Alpina B12 6.0 one day, but they are quite expensive and rare. That is the absolute peak of the E38 body type.
@Roddy_Zeh
@Roddy_Zeh 4 года назад
@@Oedegaarde I see...it's a good problem to have, though! Lol And I agree! Saw a few examples which were sold by RM Auctions earlier this year, fetching between 49 and 53k EUR, I think. The 5.7 is also very nice, but the 6.0 is the top dog, heheh! But I gotta say, even if 50...60k EUR is a lot for an E38, being a true Alpina makes it worth every penny, in my book. :D I don't think I'd be able to get one, since they're so rare, but a standard 750i already would make me a very happy man :)
@Oedegaarde
@Oedegaarde 4 года назад
@@Roddy_Zeh Absolutely. I don't think I will get a 6.0 either - but you have to keep the dream alive! A 5,7 would be great too! The 750 is also fantastic, it carries it's power discreetly. "Speak softly, but carry a big stick" :-)

Is the V-12 a better engine than the V-8 in terms of reliability, leaks, Cats, etc.
@Oedegaarde
@Oedegaarde 8 лет назад
Well, it's a bit more simple in construction, with 2 valves per cylinder instead of 4 with the V8. The "new" V12 in this e38 is much more reliable that the old version from the e32 (pretty much two straight 6 engines combined). It's a very good engine, but oviously expensive to run and maintain. 12 spakplugs, leads and everything at service and like 2 gallons (8 liters) of oil - but worth it :-)
@1984AP
@1984AP 8 лет назад
I would think the E32 V12 engine would be simpler and more reliable. Hmm. Too many give the 750 a bad reputation. I've always admired them, and would love to own one.
@Oedegaarde
@Oedegaarde 8 лет назад
The e32 had some problems with the balancing and the dual databoxes (one for each cylinderbank). It's a great car regardless, but if you buy one, just know it will be expensive to run and maintain. The are quite cheap to buy, but it's still a luxury car and cost luxury car money to keep in shape.
@1984AP
@1984AP 8 лет назад
Balancing? Never heard that before. Extra computers I know about. And the Throttle-boddies, but that applies to the E38 too. I've owned a E28 and E34 - and they've both been costly - pretty much every car is it seems if you own/drive it enough. And life's too short to own a boring car.
@Oedegaarde
@Oedegaarde 8 лет назад
Very true, it's absolutely worth it and everyone should try a V12 at some point in their life :-)

@Oedegaarde
@Oedegaarde 10 лет назад

Oedegaarde OMG, that almost like my 2 liter engine :O
@Oedegaarde

***** I used to have a Skoda Octavia vRS with the Volkswagen group 2,0 TFSI turbocharged engine. It was a fairly quick car with 0-100 in 7,3 seconds and it's official consumtion was 7,8 liters/100 km. average. I often drove it at about 10 liters though, so it's quite possible :-)

@Oedegaarde
@Oedegaarde 4 года назад
@@gabecruz1045 It all depends on the service history and what you expectations are. When the car was new it probably cost more than 100 000 dollars, so if you buy a car like that for 1 000 dollars - you need to be prepared for big repair and sevice bills! At least in Sweden, where I live, a full service for a car like this, at a BMW dealership, can easily pass 1 000 dollars for the "major service". If it's been serviced recently - that is really a bargain price! If it needs a service now - not so much. Even minor repairs will cost more than you pay for the car. If the car is clean and well maintained, like you say, well it could be a really good deal. Just make sure everything works, and be prepared to pay for repairs when the arrive. I used a former BMW dealer, that was no longer associated with the brand, but still had all the know-how. That was great, as they had all the tools and knowlege, but didn't charte BMW dealer prices. Try to find someone similar to keep it running at a somewhat reasonable price. Don't be afraid to order parts directly form Germany, it was a lot easier to find parts, and much cheaper for me, but I'm in the EU, so it may be more expensive to ship to the US - but I still think it would be worth it.
