OH MY GOD Thank you! I was just about to book an appointment at BMW (I have to take a ferry and spend a whole day in the city) until I found this. I cannot thank you enough for your post. You are a life saver!
Adding my thanks and kudos. I was pulling my hair out. The hard reset of iDrive finally allowed me to reconnect. WHY CAN’T BMW FIX THIS PROBLEM?!? In the meantime, thank YOU for helping us all!!
Thank you! I erased my phone from the car and I deleted the car from Bluetooth. Doing the hard reset with the car volume button worked. I was about to rip my hair out before your video 😅
After being without Carplay for 4 days and even getting a speeding ticket because I didn't have Waze on, this worked for me!!! Thank you!!!!! I did the hard reset and that's what worked for me, in case anybody is having the same issue.
Glad it worked. I always have waze on too, cool trick if you didn't know. You can go into the shortcuts app in the iphone and once youre in there you can go into automations and have things set up so that when carplay connects, waze will open and be ready to go every time you get into the car.
Thanks Bodey! Means a lot :) It’s crazy how CarPlay can be a little finicky at times esp when there is a new apple update, glad you were able to get it fixed!
The hard reset with the volume button solved the problem. Thank you so much for the help! Can't tell you how much frustration you just saved me. I couldn't find the solution anywhere else.
You absolute legend! Thank you for this video! Mine stopped working out the blue and no matter what i tried and even tried a spare phone it wouldnt work! Following this i have it all working now, thank you 🙌🏽
THANK YOU SO MUCH! This was such an easy fix . For the past few days I’d tried everything I could think of and nothing worked. It just randomly stopped. The second trick with holding down the volume worked for me. 😊
I’ve spent the last week forgetting and connecting my phone to try get car play working… I wish I seen this video sooner as it’s finally working! Thank you 🙏
THE HARD RESET WORKED FOR ME! Thank you i legit was loosing my mind wondering why it wouldn’t connect! Deleted the phone & the car so many times and it didn’t help.
Bro, you saved the day! My Apple CarPlay was connected, but I could not get the BMW screen to show the iPhone screen. Holding down the volume button for 30 seconds did the trick! Thank you so much!
I was really frustrated about this, trying other suggested solutions with no success for the last 3 days until I saw this and tried it this morning. Success!! I appreciate your assistance.
Thanks a lot rebooting IDrive system worked. The only thing to reboot Idrive system I had to start the car and only then it did it. Not starting the car it would quickly shut off
Thank you this really helped. For me it seemed like the problem was I was connected via VPN - once I disconnected that & followed your instructions it worked. Thanks.
Amazing mate. The volume reset worked. Thank you! Was about to take it back to BMW. I had done everything apart from the volume reset. That’s done the trick.
Thanks…the car did an update and said my Bluetooth is no longer compatible to connect to anything. I was going to call BMW and give them a piece of my mind, but this video was a perfect fix. Thank you again.
Thank you so much! I had to drive back home yesterday holding my phone as the Bluetooth got locked out of nowhere and lost connections. BMW support page has thousands of words and no freaking clue how to solve this.
Bro, you are a gangster! So awesome this is never happened to my F90 I was super tripped out. I just tuned it to stage two I thought something seriously was wrong holding down that power button did the trick. I didn’t even know that was a thing thank you so much. Thumbs up on this video and a new follower here.
Thanks! My CarPlay was connected but the CarPlay screen wouldn't come up. I wasn't aware of the BMW hard reset. It worked to fix the problem on my 2019 X5. The issue arose about the time I got the iOS 15.6 update.
Thanks so much bro just got a m340d 2022 yesterday and was so pissed off carplay off I drive wouldn’t work now it does Brillant and thank you 😊 now just got to see if I can get my sunroof to fully open 😂 thanks again
This has been driving me crazy on my 22 M4 xDrive. I’ll do this in the morning. CarPlay just won’t connect. Everything else works. I can make a call, music from my phone works, just not the damn CarPlay and I have actually used this hard reset of the volume button, before, and forgot all about it. So, this video gave me the “oh, yeah” moment. Thanks for the reminder.
Glad it worked! Yes sometimes depending on phone updates it can mess up the connection time to time. The hard reset fixes a lot of the similar bugs and even if the Idrive screen was frozen, etc.
This worked I swear to god I went into this video with no hopes because I’ve tried everything it absolutely worked I also wasn’t able to remove my phone from my car because it’s the only phone connected to it but it didn’t matter as long as you reset your phone after and forget device from your Bluetooth settings in phone it will reset and start working
@@BeamerView I got the following message before during pairing: iPhone is not compatible with Apple Carplay. Establish a Bluetooth connection to use the following: Telephone, Bluetooth Audio. OK , Cancel... Other error message i got too was: Unsuccessful Pairing.
Also on IPhone, when delegating the Bluetooth settings go into Wi-Fi. At top right of screen hit edit. There will be a lot of Wi-Fi connections listed. Scroll down and delete the BMW one also. Mine was called DIRECT-BMW 1234. After doing this I was once again able to connect to CarPlay.
Good point, haven't tried this one yet but will give it a shot next time. I could have been that the vehicle was trying to establish a connection with the hotspot of the BMW but may have not been going through because the hotspot trial was up. I've seen this happen before and could be related.
I did the BMW software upgrade last week and CarPlay disappeared. Doing the iDrive reset by holding the volume button down for 30 seconds restored it. Thanks!!
Agreed, crazy how small glitches affect these vehicles like that. Mainly has to do with 2 different companies being involved such as APPLE and android.
Of course Paul, it is an extremely useful trick to know about for BMWs. Glad it helped you, reach out to me if I could ever help you answer questions =)
Thanks Mate! Just got myself a 2020 Bimma and I was contemplating contacting the Service Department. For some reason, my WIFI connection would not enable and therefore the Appleplay would not activate. After a "HARD" reset (by holding down the volume button) the screen shut off and the system reset. WIFI was then enabled and I could connect with Apple Play.
I believe it was the hard reset that fixed problem. ( carplay connects and works in backround [found out from screenshot] but wont open on screen to see navigation etc. ) I also reset phone settings before.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!! I've literally just spent hours trying to figure this out and have done EVERYTHING possible and multiple times, and not a damn thing worked until I held the radio power button and reset the screen. As soon as it turned back on, apple carplay connected without any issues. I was just about to burn this damn car😅
Tks! It worked only after the volume button reset, but from time to time, it reboots and I need to re-connnect my phone. Annoying, but working at least.
after my bmw most recent update apple carplay is no where to be seen. not on the car setting. no after these instructions. i tried to speak to the car and it said i dont have that feature meanwhile i have had it for the past year. any ideas on what to do??
Hey Sydney, I wouldn't worry too much. There has been a few complaints about that. Ever since the update people have been getting the same issue. Couple things to try, make sure your phone is up to date as well and follow the steps in the video if you havent already. I would assume BMW will fix the issue asap and it will be done remotely but we'll have to be patient with it.
I can connect to Apple Car play wth no issues. The problem I am experiencing is "dead zones" where there appears to be something that interferes with the WiFi connection and causes CarPlay to crash. It happens in the same two spots on my daily commute. I took my car to the dealership and they said there is nothing wrong with the hardware of the car itself. I then spoke to a "genius" from BMW NA that told me that it was an issue with cellular service, but this is not true because it happens even when I am listening to a saved podcast or music directly from the phone (I can put the phone in airplane mode and carplay still connects). I have two different iPhones a 12 and a 14 and they both do the same thing. When they gave me a loaner 2023 BMW 330i I experienced the same phenomenon so it doesn't appear to be an isolated problem with my 2023 330e alone. If I don't use CarPlay and just connect the phone via bluetooth I have no issues and it never disconnects. This tells me there is some kind of issue with the WiFi Antenna since this is the modality that CarPlay uses to connect to the phone. If BMW hadn't taken away the option of using a cable I would just use the hardwire option, but instead BMW made it so that the only way to connect to CarPlay is via a wireless conneciton. This is driving me absolutely insane as it makes CarPlay basically unuseable. Has anyone else been experiencing this?
Hey Nick, thanks for reaching out. I am no cellular expert but if it does happen in the same two spots of your commute it could be a combination of both. One thing I would try is if you have another friend who has a different cell service all together to see if that does things differently. I know what you mean in a way because in my friends neighborhood there is also a spot where the connection drops all together, it's really weird. If there was anything i'd recommend it's the same tricks that were mentioned in the video above and of course making sure the phone and car are both up to date.
