How to setup Apple CarPlay in my BMW

In this video, you will learn how connect and setup Apple CarPlay to your iPhone smartphone in a BMW car. The BMW X3 used in this demo comes with iDrive 7, so the procedure might vary if you have an older or newer iDrive system.
Here are the high-level steps:
1. Bluetooth and have to be turned ON on your iPhone.
2. In the iDrive 7 menu, press or navigate to COM - Mobile Devices - New Device - Phone calls and audio
3. On your iPhone's Bluetooth menu, select the BMW entry. The pairing will begin shortly and may take a few seconds.
4. Confirm that the PIN displayed on the iDrive 7 and iPhone match, then select YES.

I recently bought an 2020 X3M40 with idrive v.6 and the set up was very similar and it works fine. My only gripe so far is MOST of my favorite APPS are not appearing on the car navi screen. What gives?!?! Is BMW restricting what apps I can use with their version of Carplay? I have another car with an aftermarket screen using Android software and I have wired carplay and Andoid Auto. Both allow me to use all my Apps on the touch screen. Specifically, I need to use my RU-vid App on my X3 system since this is where i listen most of my music mixes, etc. Any help is greatly appreciated...thx.

Yes, I think that's the case. Nico mentioned in the review that if you use CarPlay, you won't have access to all BMW Apps

Here’s question I have a 2018 330 xi And I don’t see an option for CarPlay anywhere and I know it started at about 2017 and I have the correct head unit any options you can offer me

Nice informative video, thank you. Just one thing i wish to say, you mentioned probably 10 times that you can use the touch screen or use the rotary system. I suppose 1-2 times would be enough 😅

I hope you can get back to me on this issue I’m having man. I have a 2020 330i and for some reason I don’t get a Apple CarPlay option. I’ve reset the Idrive system to factory settings. I’ve connected through Bluetooth and the CarPlay option on my iPhone and I just don’t get the Apple CarPlay to work. It pairs via Bluetooth but never gives me a CarPlay option

I have a 2019 330i (G20) and it’s supposed to come standard with CarPlay but I can’t connect to it. Legit nothing shows CarPlay anywhere it just connects to Bluetooth. Anything I can do? I know people who have same model year as me and their CarPlay works fine.

@@bmwblog it was until I tried to install it… and then found out that I have to subscribe to use it as this program that came with the new car have expired. I never really used that when it came with the car as I find that it didn’t work really well and the other features I never used

Thanks for the video. well done. A recurring problem I have with Apple Car Play in my BMW X3 2021: Waze doesn't know where I am 50% of the time (shows I am at the last parking location while I am driving; restarting the phone usually corrects this but that's pretty inconvenient) Other times it appears Waze logs me out as a result of using Apple Car Play. Also Waze interferes with the audio of the BMW radio (I need to reselect the FM/satellite, etc which is lost upon using Car Play)

You forgot to mention that once CarPlay is on you cannot use the COM features from the iDrive such as pressing the voice button on the steering wheel and making a call from your contact list. To regain iDrive COM functionalities you must switch the connection mode back to BMW iDrive …
