Pretty sure this is a 320I , since that little kink on the rear wing was a factor on the 320I s from 97-98 :) This car was built under the Super Touring rules, and which meant it had to had to have a 2 liter naturally aspirated engine, and Bmw used a 2 liter 4 cylinder, which made around 300 hp, and revved to 8500 rpm ( limited by the rules ) The car weighs around a 1000 kgs.
On early racing E36 (before restyling) stood S14B20 (bore 90,6mm x stroke 77,4mm) from E30. They had an index of 318. Late racing E36 (restyling) had S42B20 (bore 86,5mm x stroke 85mm). They had an index of 320.
Doublevanoz I've been out of the scene for a while so may be worth fact checking me! If memory serves the S52 is the yank E36 M3 engine. Essentially it's a stroked iron M50 with cams. Not a true M engine, and certainly nowhere near the performance! Obviously, the S50 is the one the rest of the world got and is known for being a bit of a legend!
