Replacing the lower fender-liners in a BMW E39 5 Series. These commonly get broken, or removed and not replaced. They really should be replaced to protect the inside of the front bumper, and the components that live there.

Don't you think it would've been easier to take off the wheels?

Thx....I thought the wheel liner was one big piece running from in front of the tire all the way to the back of tire. Glad to see it's only like a flap in front of the tire. Your vid showed me it's much easier to fix than I thought it would be. Thanks!!!

Remember, a jack is to lift up a car and jack stands are to support a car! The flimsy BMW jack is not very safe to be working under; good thing you still had your wheel on in case the jack failed. Also, you can turn the wheel (either full left or right) to give yourself more space to work in the wheel well.

thanks for this video! I bought exact fender liners last week, for mine 2003 525d and was just looking for video instructions. Best regards from Croatia !

This video aided in replacing the liners on my 2001 E46 330Ci . . . only minor differences 😎👍😎

Exactly the video I needed as my e39 is also missing the bottom clip and I couldn't figure out how it's supposed to hold on to the bottom part of the bumper. Thx !!!

I like your wheels, good choice mate.

Yes that is true, and I did think about this at the time. Unfortunately I didn't have any jack stands to support the car but this process is fairly quick so you can get away with just using the jack, and also like you mentioned the wheel is there just in case. I also did think about turning the wheel but I didn't want to cause any issues having the car tilted while on the jack and having the wheel turned. Anyways, I had enough room by lifting, but filming it was a little difficult.

Hi, guys. You can find a pair on discount body parts for 40, including shipping. I happened to find it and placed the order. I will update when I received the part.

Didn't want to do that because I wouldn't have a safety backup in case the Jack failed. It wasn't too tight where I couldn't do the job but it was just a little tight to film, no big deal though.

mine failed....mainly because of lack of structural support at the bottom of the jack....and because my driveway is slightly angled..so when i was changing my break pads i was jacking it up and then the car just fell....lucky thing i didnt take the tire off completely or else it would've fallen on the rotor... :(

Can you post the part # for the liners? I just got a 2001 540i/6MT and the passenger liner is shredded.

E39 Source, do you guys have a video about the E39 525i 528i 530i engine splash shield under the vehicle?
@E39Source
@E39Source 7 лет назад
+Jose Nambo I don't believe so, but what do you want to know about it?
@jnambo5500
@jnambo5500 7 лет назад
I just wanted to know if the engine splash shield is held with push rivets or the small screws with the little metal clips like the wheel splash shield
@jnambo5500
@jnambo5500 7 лет назад
E39Source basically I just want to know what hardware I will need when I purchase my engine splash shield.
@E39Source
@E39Source 7 лет назад
It's held in with the 1/4 turn screws and acceptors for them. I would buy (10) of 51718176503 and then (6) of both 51718218323 and 51718218852.

Thank you so much. I really appreciate you taking the time to help me. No engine shield caused a coolant hose to get punctured. Thanks a million!

07129904217 is the part number for the clip I just found out. The actual fender liner comes with 2 clip attached to it. I didn't see you guys use any additional clips, so I assume you don't need to buy any extra clips (assuming nothing is broken or missing from the attachment points)?
@E39Source
@E39Source 8 лет назад
It should come with what you need unless you already had missing hardware. The 217 part number are the bolt acceptors.
@fabiandee8178

Thanks for the input. The fender liner I bought like on your video only has 2 clips attached as new. You can see the clips there on the existing liner underneath the screws as they stick out slightly. I checked mine earlier and could only see two clips under the screws, which confirms this is all you need. Thanks again.

I know what a rip off, I need both sides on my m5, but I guess that's the price to pay to play.

I have a question about a e39 m5 2000, I'm doing both the front fender liners, and all 3 splash shields, and was wondering what extra part numbers for like clips/screws or whatever I would need to do this job. I would appreciate it very much
@Mrstinky247

Or just any additional parts needed to finish it correctly if all were missing
