Excellent Demo. Thank you. I will still get our expert mechanics to do the rivets - but at least I know what they are doing and why it will be a good fix. In a heavy storm, I drove through 2 inches of water at 50mph. (Not a safe thing to do). Car kept in straight line. But the fender liners got pulled out by the water pressure. My Lexus CT200h is super reliable - except for the fender liners!

Thanks for the positive comment! If ever you need to remove the fender liners, the rivets can be drilled out. Some have wondered how to ever remove them if needed. The fast drive through standing water was one method I hadn't considered. LOL Take care and Best Wishes!

Very informative and it made me think I could do this. I do not want to remove my wheel/tire so I hope I can do it with it still on. It is my rear splash guards that I hear rattling while I drive on the freeway. I just made a long trip over a 1000 miles and the entire time (when not playing the radio) I could hear the rattle and just knew I might lose one (still have them). I like the rivet idea so I may try that. I'll post how it went later. Thanks. Jim

Thanks Jim. I'm curious to hear how you will make out with the repair. One thing that comes to mind: is there something in the trunk area that is rattling? A screwdriver or something else banging around in there? Just a thought.

Can this be done with the tire still on and with splash guard that fell off?
@EverydayProjects
@EverydayProjects 4 месяца назад
It will be difficult to attach the plastic pieces and operate the rivet gun with the tire still on but maybe, if you turn the wheel to its max, you can do it. Just so long as you can see where the push pins are, they can be replaced and if you need to add a few rivets, then you may be able to do it with the tire on. Best wishes and thanks for asking.

My rear bumper is is loose on the driver side. It’s been that way for over 10 years. But apparently today I must have lost that black piece. Because it’s not there, and after running errands today I kept hearing a tap tap tap as I would drive. We got out and looked at it and it’s the bumper loose corner. When I pushed on it back-and-forth it made that same tapping sound. in the wind while driving it’s tapping on some thing. That’s when I noticed the black piece was gone so I guess my question is what is that black piece called? As for the bumper I’ll figure out something lol
@EverydayProjects
@EverydayProjects 2 года назад
Rockauto.com has just about any car part you can imagine. I think the technical name for the black plastic part is wheel liner or fender liner. Any auto body shop or junkyard would have a way to get you the piece you're missing. I buy all my car parts from Rockauto-they are great! I hope I've helped. Good luck and let me know how you make out with this repair.
@bigrimz2361
@bigrimz2361 Год назад
@@EverydayProjects a friend of mine bought the part ( liner.) I’ll get it put on next weekend. The bumper isn’t going anywhere lol. At least that’s what my neighbour said.( and his job he takes bumpers off all day, he says I’m good) as for the tapping, there was a plastic screw looking thing that was dangling, from a previous accident I suppose. When I lost the liner the bottom of my bumper cover would flap a bit hitting the dangling screw. It must’ve fallen off though no more tapping. But I will look at the site, because now I need a tensioner pulley replaced. 😩
@EverydayProjects

@@bigrimz2361 I replaced an Idler pulley on my channel last month. It is a similar process on most vehicles. Good luck!

Is it safe to drive with a loose one
@EverydayProjects
@EverydayProjects 2 года назад
Yes, you can drive with these loose because these are trim not structure of the car, but they can interfere with the wheel in some instances or fly off and strike another car. Best to fix them as soon as possible.

Any suggestions on what to do if the surface underneath the fender liner has broken away? I don’t even know what it’s called. A fender liner flange? The flat edge underneath the fender liner has snapped away on my 2019 Kia Sedona, front passenger side.
@EverydayProjects
@EverydayProjects Год назад
Perhaps you can mount a few small 90 degree brackets and attach the fender liner to them. A hardware store will have some brackets about 1 1/2 inches wide that you could epoxy to the inside of the fender in several spots then once they have set strong (a few hours) then proceed with attaching the fender liner to them. The area you attach the brackets to inside the fender should be cleaned very well so the epoxy will stick, maybe use some sandpaper then rubbing alcohol (or brake cleaner) to get any dirt off before attaching the brackets. I haven't done this particular repair but with care, it should work. Good luck!
@joshuasteele7133
@joshuasteele7133 Год назад
@@EverydayProjects thanks that’s a good suggestion! I took it to a body shop and they said I’d have to get a new front bumper or maybe zip tie the liner to the bumper through a small hole drilled through the outer edge of the bumper. But I like the idea of the 90-degree bracket.

what is the con of not putting plastic guards back in the fender
@EverydayProjects

Water and road junk can get up in there. Also, wind on the highway can start to loosen the plastic bumper covers and start to pull them off.

The rivet guns are sold in most hardware stores. They are also available on Amazon as are the push pins and rivets. The best thing to do is speak to someone at an auto parts store, like NAPA and see if they can help you get the rivet gun and pieces you'll need. Best Wishes!

Hey nice video, I have a problem though my drill won’t even drill through the plastic on the car. I don’t know if the drill isn’t good enough or if I’m doing something wrong.

Probably just a cheap drill bit. Make sure the drill is turning the bit clockwise, some drills have a reverse feature and that won’t allow the bit to cut. Good luck and I wish you luck with the repair.

True, but rivets can be drilled out and replaced. Some cars have components under these splash guards that may need to be accessed on occasion. Not a one-size-fits-all solution but riveting these in (mostly) will get you back on the road. Thanks for commenting 👍
