In this video I show you how easy it is to remove and replace the main drive belt and idler pulley for the tensioner which often can make unpleasant noises when it is failing. I add tips and tricks and go over how to fully assemble the hydraulic tensioner which is the replacement for the mechanical tensioner. This is an easy DIY project when your follow along with my video showing you step by step how to replace this tensioner.

This is helpful. I have been struggling with this for days now. Original tensioner bracket and top long bolt broke off while driving. I drilled it out of the oil filter housing and got a new tensioner assembly and bolt. Then second bolt (lower right) broke when I over tightened it... Finally I drilled that out again, got a new bolt and when putting my belt on the allen key bolt on which holds on the tensioner pulley breaks off. It did not even detension, it broke after snug and I applied pressure. Now I am in a big mess. Maybe new tensioner needed cause this bolt broke deeper inside and I don't think my extractor can drill it out. Is the tensioner that tough to move to detension? Once I do fix the tensioner I am gonna have to put the belt on and I am scared i'll break it again. Maybe I need a longer bar for leverage.... Gotta be a better way...

AWESOME VIDEO!!! Gonna do this on the weekend. You wouldn't happen to have a DIY for the removal of the ABS module on an E46 on the right side would you? Trying to remove so I could send for re-manufacturing ..THANKS!!

I'm having a huge problem getting my tensioner to move over so that I can slip the belt on. I've even bought a new tensioner assembly and I'm having the same issue. Your pulley moved very easily. I have a new t 50 bolt and socket. Starting to strip the bolt. Any suggestions would be appreciated..

good afternoon ,in Dec last year i changed my Drive Belt on 2005 BMW 320i and this week, it has been sherreded, any ideas as to what could be causing the belt to break in this manner????

Hi Robert, Any amount if oil leaking onto the belt will cause it to fail. Also check all the pulleys for binding. Also make sure the belt is not walking off from a failing tensioner.

Great video. Very helpful. I replaced my tensioner pulley bolt with a he's head bolt. Do you think that will be an issue when removing and replacing belts, etc?
