Thank you very much sir, I gotta say these videos are very helpful for people like myself who`d like to know more about their cars. You are also preventing a lot of people from getting scammed by a dishonest mechanic. greetings from Brazil.
Good news! It can be fixed for free. My 330ci was giving exactly the same sound and there wasn't any sing of circulation in the reservoir. After removing the power steering pump I was curious what the problem could be. So after taking the pump apart I realized that a very little piece of metal shavings is stopping one of the fan blades in it's in and out movement. After cleaning the pump thoroughly and put everything back together it just works fine again.
Thanks for posting this video! My pump broke the shaft when I had a VERY low speed impact on the curb and it did indeed sheer the shaft as you show.... I totally freaked out at the cost of parts but I know somebody in the trade and it wasn't so bad.... The job itself is easy, smelly but easy....
BMW E46 330xi. Just replaced the reservoir and one of the low pressure lines. Also a video on replacing the high preesure hose would awesome or the removal of the pump. Great video though
Greetings from Puerto Rico! Thanks for this video you have shown us ! It really does help! I just bought BMW 2002 3series E46 and i have this problem with the power steering makes that noise like there"s no power fluid! Now, I'll find the time to buy the parts! Thanks!
I have an annoying groan when i steer my car at low speeds, it feels perfectly normal to steer, it is not heavy at all but makes a horrible noise which gets me to think that the PS pump s gone bad. What do you think about this sir? Thank you.
My 2002 BMW 330xi is a weird case: 1) Power steering works "fine", so it would seem. 2) But pump is making a HUGE clanking and rattling racket 3) No movement of fluid in the reservoir 4) Have NOT gotten underneath to confirm if the shaft is broken, like shown here Just the fact that the car steers fine is throwing me off. Making me wonder if it's something else in that tight area (alternator or tensioner) that is making that noise? But I'm betting it's the pump.
Question? I put the wrong fluid in my reservoir. I drain and cleaned out all lines and replaced reservoir. But now I have a steering malfunction code an it wont go away . What's wrong
Your the best so for on RU-vid keep up the good work . Have a question I have a 2000 bmw x5 4.4 and at the rear wheel on both sides it squeaks and cracking its very loud can you help with what it might be
I can tell by looking at the pumps a 2000 323ci has the older, non-heavy duty pump. I know because I had a 2000 323i and replaced the pump myself which went out at 127,000 miles. Yeah, I remember @ 3:46 having to unbolt the three brass looking bolts at the front of the pump to the left, to bolt the mount on to the new pump
Hey I have bmw 745 'll 2003 the two bolt broke on the pump I got them drilled out but the guy who did the job made the hole hollow causing it to break , whats the name of the piece that holds the pump in pace?
@aleksankazakov - Thanks for the suggestion, that would be a very involved video repair tip, and a good one too. Let us see what we can do on that. Any specific year and model??
Hi this was very helpfull ,i changed my pump the exact same thing happened to my pump its been about month and now my pump is on the fritz again when it is cold the pump is fine but when the car warms up the pump start sound when moving it is fine however once i come to a dead stop then it starts sounding ,i removed the old fluid thinking it might of been old burned fluid however this problem continues i have a 330 ci 2001
basically I bought an E36 m3 automatic a few months ago and it some problems that I've been getting fixed one at a time. One of those problems was leaking powersteering. Me being the dummy that I am, I didn't think that was important so I didn't get it fixed mainly because I had more serious things to fix first. Eventually the steering got really stiff but I thought it wasn't worth spending the 400 to fix and I kind if didn't mind the stiffness. Well I finally got around to getting the hoses and reservoir fixed, but it's still really stiff. It has new fluid, so that isn't the problem. I'm just wondering if it's the pump or the steering rack? It's not making a lot of noises or anything, just really stiff. I drove it for a few weeks with no fluid before getting it fixed though. So my question is a two parter: A: is it the pump or the rack? B: is it safe to drive right now or will I be on the highway and all of a sudden can't steer anymore? Any help is greatly appreciated
I have this same exact problem and I am told it is the power steering pump. the hoses don't have any leaks and the reservoir is full... the pump is just not doing its job.
Hey! I hve a 2001 bmw 525i wagon. Wen I turn the wheel wile not pressing gas pedal, it resist n sounds as if its grinding but wen I tap the gas, it turns smooth. Any suggestion wut cood b causing dis problem? Anyone feel free to share their input on this matter. Thanks!!!
@@HairyRichard-bd8rv It's a better chance that he's dead. He was obviously speeding toward an early grave, which is why he was trying to save time by omitting letters in basic and easy to type words. hve, wen, wile, n, wen, wut, cood, b, dis ... let's just hope he didn't have any offspring prior to his car flying off a cliff. Probably too much to hope for.
hello Thanks for the video!!! Let me ask you...The LF30 also fits the M3 E46 2001-2006? My M3 2001 is making weird noises when I turn the wheel, and is also hard steering at low speed
Thanks for the information. What is the worse that could happen if i continue to drive my car (BMW 323i) with power steering pump not working. Have been moving with it like that for 4 days and have moved about 200km. I would like to know the dangers.
i can't hear you when you star talking the motor noise don't let me hear what u said about the power steering fluid and how to know if we have problems on the pump ,thanks
Check the serpentine belt and try to change it. Also try to change the middle pulley. Let me know if you already fixed the problem and what it was. thank you
