Your impression of the noise is what my 2006 Nissan XTrail sounds like. It's good to know its a very simple problem. It's just started happening too. Thanks for the video.
Good call thinking someone might put the wrong fluid in,. It didn’t even cross my mind to think someone would be so careless to use transmission fluid accidentally over power steering but that could definitely happen! In the middle of trying to diagnose a squealing issue on a 2011 BMW 335i. All signs are pointing to a power steering leak but the fluid felt wrong. Hmm
Good video Nathan ! I know both my e46’s power steering pumps broke at the shaft . You could still drive no problems just no power steering . I replaced with$60 amazon special an no problems since ...
I have an 2000 E39 M62TU with an OEM LUK pump using CHF fluid with 121K miles that seems to be making clicking and screeching sound at idle. What is the service life expectancy of that power steering pump and would replacing it with a TRW rebuilt pump running AFT be compatible with the rest of the power steering system?
Anyone have any idea what the problem could be with the speedometer not working in an E53? Rebuilt module, replaced sensor (rear left) with oem, I literally just finished changing the wheel bearing. Still no speedometer 🤷🏻♂️ it was working last week but reading double and putting double the miles on. Now it stopped completely
I have a small Hyundai Atos. Grinding noises when I steer fully. Added ATF Fluid in the reservoir yet still same situation. Should it be a belt then? I will use a syringe I guess to make sure.
Good video Nathan, just renewed my reservoir & fluid as I'm getting constant buzzing sound from my pump on my 1M. Anyway, didn't expect it to fix it, & sure enough it stills buzzes. Steering is fine, no other noises, just this annoying buzz from pump, which increases with revs. Looks like I'll need new pump, with only 25k on car :(
My man looks like it’s going to be your power steering pump! That’s what your problem is but regardless of what you did with replacing reservoir cause you would have ended up changing the reservoir & fluid and pump that’s the stupid thing Mercedes does certain things fail quite often :/ fkn horse shit
My fathers kia cerato it makes sound when turning steering wheel left ,right while stationary, sound like TAAB TAAB? the power steering fluid below max ? is it bcuz of that ?
Hi Nathan, thank you very much for your valuable videos. I have replaced the alternator on an E53, so I had to remove the steering pump, by mistake I drained some of the oil from the low pressure line. Before restarting, the pump started to do some noisy sound and I feel vibrations on the steering wheel. If you can advise, I will be more than happy to read you. Thanks
I have the same issue since I have the car my guess was the pump but tomorrow Im gonna solve the little leak at the bottom and change the fluid. My car is a 523i from 96' I have high hopes. Ill come back and tell if it solve the noise. It have noise when you almost turn the wheel all the way. Thank you for the tip.
Don't know why I'm asking cuz u never respond. My e36 feels like the ps just stops sometimes and it get suddenly tight. The fluids have always been good and there's no noises coming from the system. I do have a bad clock spring but that wouldn't cause binding in the steering would it?
Can you help me? I have a bmw x1 e84. It makes a whining sound which is very loud on cold start but gradually quiets down as you drive the car, but does not go silent. The whining sound corrsponds with the revvs of the car, so the higher i revv, the higher pitch it gets. Iv changed PS oil(atf) and resivoir, but it stil persists. My steering wheel is slighly heavy compared to other similar cars iv driven. PLEASE HELP
Notice how to steering reservoir is right above the alternator. It was the same on our 1997 Ford Falcon and it leaked onto the alternator. Not only did we have to replace the steering hose but the alternator died because of it.
If you are in the comments and wondering about BMWs, generally those with dynamic drive use the Pentosin CHF 11S (just like Nathan's E60 M5) and the cars that don't have dynamic drive will likely use ATF
Hi Nathan. I live in Canada and I drive a (BMW Z4 2.5 2005) . Lately my steering wheel make a noise that keeps Intensyfiying. Please let me know what I should do first. Thank you. Romeo
My conclusion is that German engineering produces scrap metal overpriced, overhyped, overrated and over exaggerated then called them performance cars. German engineering is not reliable at all. Like it at your expense but there will no joy for you after the car reaches 100k to 150k miles on the odometer. Most of the engine parts are plastic made, some parts are a mixed of cheap metals like chrome or vanadium mixed with aluminum. There risks of engine overheating is higher than in other car brands. Power steering pump always fails. ECU often has issues. This a hole in the owners pocket called everlasting maintenance. The engine is fitted and mounted in a 45% angle to leak oil. The only aspect I can add value in is that they make great solid bodies, strong beautiful interior design coupled with a marvelous balance suspension and transmission. Their engine is design are Sh*t
