E60 M5 is a very special car, playful or long distance cruiser. One of my toughest decision whenever I drive is listen to the awesome audio system or listen to the car. Above 3000RPM you can hear the engine begin to howl as RPMs increase. God bless BMW, they designed my dream car. E60 M5 just doesn't have an ugly angle, they nailed everything on this car. The amount of joy mine brings me, I'll never let it go, no other car compares, period
Great review. I love my E60 M5 - I’ll never sell it. It’s such a special car. Yes it needs love and attention (this year I’ve given mine new throttle actuators, spark plugs, pcv valves, cabin filters, AGM battery plus the usual oil change and deep service) but that’s part and parcel of owning/looking after one. There’s been many neglectful owners in the past who’ve not taken care of them, who’ve driven them hard and aggressively from cold. On a tight tolerance engine like the s85 that’s the worst thing you can do to it. It needs to be warmed up gradually.. otherwise you get premature engine wear and rod bearing wear. I think most e60 m5’s that remain have thankfully found themselves proper owners to take care of them It’s just a joy to own and drive.
This is the best video on the E60 M5 everything you said was spot on glad that you didn't just talk about the engine these cars actually handle really well and they are a lot more track oriented then what people think
Finally someone does a REAL review of our cars, and I've got a Stroker 5.6l V10. Thank you for your great review. Amazing review bro. Amazing 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍😃😃😃🙂🙂🙂🙂💯💯💯💯💯
I really appreciated this accurate review of my forever car.... I will never sell mine! PS: As an owner, you believe you know how to drive SMG until you really do. Its a skill which takes time, but its so worth it.
Silverstone is the best colour, but it doesn't photograph so well, unlike Interlagos Blue. I've had my Silverstone one for just under 5 and a half years. I've been through an engine rebuild and recently supercharged it. I keep thinking about selling it but I can't tbink of any other car for the money that would give the same experience. The engine dominates everything and is half the reason I bought mine. Nothing currently on sale will give the same experience. Yes modern M cars are quicker and better as a daily, but they do not feel special.
Agree on all counts. Silverstone is a very underrated colour, as reflected by market values, but presents stunningly in real life, and never looks out of place.
Loved the intro talking about Lamborghini Huracans and this legend, I am so grateful and blessed to own both. I must say despite the Lambo being a Lambo the E60 M5 somehow feels more special to drive and sounds better too! My M5 has a custom exhaust with genuine rear section+carbon tips from Akrapovic (they never made a system for the M5, just the M6), Eventuri carbon intakes and a prototype Eventuri full carbon plenum and it just sounds fantastic. Fully loaded with the cooling/heated/auto-bolstered seats, extended leather everwhere ie dashboard, doors etc, alcantara roof, E92 style bonnet, LCI lights, carbon bits everywhere including a full carbon CSL boot from seibon and despite owning it for 7 years and putting over 50K miles on it, still has a BMW warranty on it! It truly defines the word 'legend' and I'll never sell it, as Clarkson said "it's the best car I've ever driven". 🙌
@@mikemaraj3200 I have a friend who is now selling an E39 M5. He wants to exchange it for a newer M model. He found a prelci 2008 E90 M3. He gave up the E60 M5 because it is unreliable. Do you think the E90 M3 with a manual transmission would be a good replacement for the E39 M5?
@mislavkonjik2827 no I don't think so, I have an e39 m5, and I thought I would buy a new v8 m3, but it did nothing for me after the dealer gave it to me for an entire day. 100% no, then I drove my e60 m5 SMG, after hearing all the hate about SMG, I said let's go back and sign the papers after 2 kms in the v10. M3 V8 is fantastic and I loved it, but definitely not an upgrade from a v8 e39 m5. No way.
Great review of the car, after watching a clips about the Bavarian King, finally picked mine up from Belfast. May i just say what a car 😊 the ultimate driving experience and as Jezza once said "is as good as a Ferrari 430" ❤
Oh indeed, the drive from Dungannon to Dublin was epic. Once in a lifetime to drive a V10 through Ireland 🇮🇪 roads was amazing, no traffic or dreaded pot holes 😂
Just discovered your channel. An absolute awesome presentation of a true masterpiece. Keep up the good content and honest presentation. God bless from South Africa
Great video and review. I have a 2008 e60 M5 myself but mine fell victim to rod bearing fsikure even though it was meticulously maintained. I should have it back soon from a full rebuild and cant wait.
I feel your pain. I had engine failure at around 76k after having the rod bearings done. The other thing to do with these is to replace the injectors, which are currently NLA. I've put 30k miles on mine now since it was rebuilt a d recently supercharged it, so I don't have the injectors worry at the moment!
Nice review, just a few corrections. - Servotronic is not variable ratio, it's variable assistance, the ratio does not change, that was active steering which was no an option on the M5. - It's a visco lok diff, so not entirely mechanical. - The SMG is at its worst in stop start traffic, and is hydraulic, not electro mechanical - The manual works so much better than the SMG and suits the car perfectly. Look forward to more reviews.
Thank you for your comments! The steering perhaps should have been better worded but it was referring to the fact that the steering rack is quicker at the outer edges of lock, it is not variable according to speed as you have confirmed. The visco lock diff does have clutch plates and crucially, isn't adjustable or variable unlike the successive M cars that followed and the SMG clutch is indeed hydraulically actuated however it is ultimately controlled by an electronic computer as opposed to a human. I would love to try a manual E60 M5! I did really like the SMG in this application and thought it was a huge step up over SMGII, with the added benefit of closer stacked ratios than M cars of the past. Glad you enjoyed the video and your informative comments are very much appreciated.
@@shootingbrakeappreciate the thorough response. I own a manual E60 M5, you're welcome to drive it some time. It's a glorious thing and feels very much more the successor to the E39 M5 than the SMG did.
@@daveisasdavedoes3558if you maintain it will it last ? At what amount of km do u change rod berings, or when u replace them u replace them with originals or higher quality
Unintentionally, we are becoming quite BMW focused but we’re not complaining 😎 We do have some pretty wild and different cars coming soon so make sure you’re subscribed!
