Love watching all your stuff. Can’t believe you’ve not got thousands more followers. Some of your videos cover very basic info that we should all know, but your delivery and simple explanations are excellent. And having someone talk you through a task and provide time and more importantly effort saving tricks and tips is invaluable. Thank you as always. This however was something I’ve not experienced before, so I’ve definitely keep it in mind. Mines a 2006 with 97,000 miles, so they are sure to want doing sooner rather than later. Reading some of the other comments, I too, will look forward to the video in injector changing. As this is something g that’s quite high on my list of preventative stuff. Keep up all the good work. Many thanks.

Vanos Solenoids.....been there done that, don't want to remember it! One of the most tedious jobs I've had to do on the car, you need a VERY skinny torx bit with a VERY specific length and even then you're doing 2 out of the 4 solenoids almost completely blind

Yes, a tricky job for sure, requires a lot of patience!

This is the information I like to read, I’m doing my solenoids next year so will make my life a bit easier

Great info as always! I didn’t know the solenoids had come down in price. Last time I looked they’d gone from around £150 to over £1,000! Thanks BMW… Just hoping I don’t need to replace those. Any suggestions as to the type of replacement O rings to use or where to source them from? Keep up the great work 👍🏻

Thanks for checking out the video Mark. Yes you should be able to pick them up for around £400 each now. There are companies out there selling made up O-ring kits for the VANOS solenoids & SMG solenoids. You’ll find them on eBay too. Failing that try a hydraulics shop with your old ones as a reference. You want Viton O rings

Great video, iv watched all your videos and got all parts you recommend changing, not fitted any as yet tho, but don't drive the car much. I had a letter from BMW uk. Two months back recalling my car for a battery terminal replacement. So even after sixteen years they are still replacing parts for free. Can't fault BMW

That’s great to hear! They’re definitely a car worth looking after properly. When I take mine in to the dealer for a WOF (an annual inspection like MOT) I often asked them if any recalls are due. They did the airbags on my E46’s and they where getting on a bit! What year is your M5?

@@MTechGuy my M5 is a late 2005, I’m having a 8x6 workshop built next years so will do rod bearings, vanos and all recommended bottom end bits then

I've got a problem with mine as it's just chewed its clutch out. Hadn't thought about the solenoids but I'll pull the box and swap them out, thanks. I thought you were going to call out the injectors. Mine failed and hydraulicked the motor.
@MTechGuy
@MTechGuy 2 года назад
Might be your throw out Bering, the original design is known to get chewed up on these cars. Yes injectors can be a killer for these engines, I’m planning to change mine out soon, I’ll make a video on it

Recently had the red and yellow cog, car would change gears (reverse, neutral, drive) but not move when I pushed the gas. Any thoughts?

When my m5 is cold it’s jerky on 1. gear and reverse. You think it could be the smg solenoids? Clutch and slave cylinder new.
@MTechGuy
@MTechGuy 2 года назад
No I don’t think it’s the solenoids. Did you replace the clutch release bearing/guide bushing with your new clutch? The SMG III does operate better once warmed up warm like any manual. I would change the gear oil and check the hydraulic fluid level, and give the adaptions a chance
@M6manual
@M6manual 2 года назад
@@MTechGuy yes did. change everything on the clutch and gear oil and hydraulic oil change too. It got better after the 3rd adaptation now it’s just the first 5 miles. I think that should be okay..
