BMW E60 Optic Fibre network problem. Fault finding and repair. 

Awesome. Very helpful and educational. I decided to remove the factory CD changer from my car because I never use it anymore and wanted to use that space for a new mod (airplay mirroring device). For an entire day I pulled my hair out trying to figure out why I had no audio anywhere in my car. No chimes, no seatbelt sound, BMW Assist SOS error, no power in armrest usb, no audio in the 3.5mm jack. It was crazy. I was convinced the mod I bought was faulty. So I’ve been searching online for hours when I should be sleeping and somehow I landed on this and your previous video. Now, it’s clear to me the optical network was broken by my removal of the CD changer. I’ll reconnect it first thing in the morning and I think that’ll fix my problem. And btw, it’s great that you didn’t edit these videos down. We got to see all the roadblocks you ran into and how you solved them and that in and of itself is education. Excellent job. THANK YOU! Thank you for your time spent on repairing and showing us these BMW repairs.I own two E60's MY '05, and '06 Both have the adaptive sport pkg with the adaptive headlights, the rear light covers on both cars failed and let water in. I replaced one of AHL module with a new one drivers side only, rt side HL cover was still good. I tried swapping parts from car to car as the '05 lights were working fine. after putting them back on the '05 now they don't work either. adaptive part, lighting is fine. I have watched several vids on the FRM at the footwell. and how to see if the 50 count has been triggered due to a constant short. This could be my issue as well but I bought the BMW software off of Fleabay and seems to have all the different programs needed. My real problem is I have never coded before but it seems straight forward but is insanely hard to find two people that can give every step to get this job done, A manual is all I ask but we are the builders of the software manuals it seems. lol.. NCS expert, mine does not have the exact same options as yours shows, which confuses me until I can figure this out. I could definitely use some guidance on getting through the NCS Expert and others needed for VO/FA, VIN matching etc. After Watching your videos I can start to see a similar approach to solving these issues. The '05 car is getting a CDC I bought, I have the fiber connector I ordered, Just need to remove from jumper connector to the 2 way that plugs into the CDC connector. Then try what you did for the coding. I now am a subscriber and enjoying it.Thanks againWally

Hi, thanks for sharing the video I do have one question, I have an 2004 E60 it's a 545i, sometime ago the screen on the navigation system turns off and on only showing the BMW logo and it sounds like it keeps rebooting so the radio does not work or navigation or anything. Some times the radio comes on and everything works fine but then there's other times when it does not work at all do you know what may be causing this problem?

Had someone unplugged the optic from the mask and plugged it into the Parrot kit? As you unplugged the Parrot to put it back in the mask, will the Parrot not work now? Also if you have to "Add" a device IE a Parrot kit, do you have to splice/alter the individual fibre cables into another plug by adding 1 lengh of fibre?

I wanted to ask , my ccc was working when bought off the dealer a week later it would reboot over and over and work random. Now its just turns on random and no logo just a 1 second white screen and goes black or again. I see the connection for the cd changer but its not there. I bought it without it and it worked fine for a few days. I dont believe i have logic 7 and only 3 modules in back. Also navigation and satellite radio are greyed out…Any advice? I need my music :( 2006 bmw 530i (05/05 manufacturing date)

Are you saying that if I plug in only powers and grounds to my CD player, and if I disconnect the optic fibre, I should see the red LED flashing from inside the connector? I'm trying to understand if the loop starts from the flashing LED at the radio. Thx :-)

Hi, I had raplace my mask unit with second hand, and now I have a radio problem, all the other working fine, but my radio fm now crash. If find some fm station, after few minute crash and can't find any radio station. My broken mask unit had very good radio, but I replace it becouse can't read cd. I check the optics and it’s fine. Do I need to recode the new mask unit to comunicate correctly with antenna module, or check something else?

Im having issues with my Bluetooth in my 2011 E91. Bluetooth connections are fine but the people I am on a call with all complain that they cannot hear me properly. There seems to be some sort of interference or static sound. I can hear the person on the other end perfectly well - they cant hear me so well - Is there a quick fix to this or do i have to take it into a garage? Thanks .

Hiya mate I know it's abit off topic but I have a issue with my pdc I'm getting a fault come up and my green light is flashing I have no signal coming from either of the sensors I've self tested the sensors but none of them are working I've changed the pdc module but the fault is still there. Hello, I have noticed we have the same head unit. Do you recall the reset procedure for these? My radio will not turn on within the screen, all fuses are good within the wiring behind the unit and the fan is spinning so I suspect it is in working order still.

if you want to bypass the cd changer. can you directly hook the optic cable from mulf blue tooth to mask and loop it .

Hello, i have problem with most, diganostic says 00FFF2, i have e90 lci with cic and combox, my bt, aux and USB doesnt work, nav is working and everything on the radio, do you know what could be the problem? The optic on cic and combox are blinking red, the optic cable that goes into combox in the boot is blinking red, the diagnostic port at the front under the steering wheel is not blinking red, i dont know if it should or not, do you know where the problem could be? Also the optic cable that goes into cic is not blinking red

I have a red light in all my fiber optic cables and even the one above the pedals, I used the loop on each connector but nothing solved my issue, I still have a sos light and no audio, any idea what could be causing my problem?

Hi. I have e60 2009 everything built in already. I opened the centre console and replaced all leds from amber to white. When I connected everything together again cd player and mobile bluetooth not recognised. Sos light on dash keeps popping up! Do I need to get it coded? Any help pls I'm stuck.

Hi sorry I know this video is old but I’ve been trying to fix my audio issue for a while now. It’s a 2010 550i I have the sos light and no audio. Bypassed the module under the spare tire (mulf?) I’m getting lights on every connection now after bypassing it but still no sound.

Hello, If my mulf to mask cable is broken and I don’t intend to use the mulf is it possible to direct the cd changer back to the mask? Or I can just use the loop at the socket of the cd changer?

LM Auto Repairs hi so when I look at the back there’s two modules the amp and the tcu I think. I took the plugs out They both have a light the comes from the fibre optic wires. My Bluetooth came back on btw. The cd changer is working, it ejects properly and seems to be working. I’m thinking it’s the mask (head unit).

Hello there i have a bmw 325i e90 2006 and my car had a short so what happened i got a sub install in the back and everything was fine but something happened to the remote wire going to sub and there was a short i am thinking and some smoke came out and i turned car off right away and remove negative post. So i remove the rear seats and i noticed it melted some green wires in a loop two wires and do u have info what can it be i have part number and looked it up and i am told its for SOS' bluetooth and Microphone i wanted to be sure im glad it was minimal but want to make sure though. The green wire is optic fiber . I want to repair it i will buy the quick connectors. I asked a friend and he sayed that butt connectors should be fine but high quality with good insulation and clamp down really good for signal/data to pass. Let me know please thanks 14523661
