Recently I was very proud of myself with installing LED door projectors in my car. You reconstruct entire circuit boards! I am very impressed!! Great work!
I have replaced quite a few of the gws controls due to the broken plastic rod..but another common problem I keep seeing is the code A82E ''interlock E faulty' most often on E70 x5s..in short, the dc motor rotating a steel cam pushing a white nylon plate against shifter...to push it rapidly from sport/manual position to default vertical drive position. Or, the white nylon plate can 'lock out' sport/manual mode when trans fails or is under a specific fluid temp. This plate is often broken (no idea why) and unrepairable due to the nylon material. I have bench tested motors/power leads and they are always fine, as are the plastic gears. I see the embedded magnet and sensor in the camshaft spur gear detecting stop and start points, but those components never appear to present any failures. I assume the magnetic gate switches on main pcb create a prerequisite trigger for horizontal movement (therefore triggering E interlock when Park selected). I could have saved a handful of owners many thousands if I could figure out the root cause of the plate breakage and additionally find a replacement source of the parts. If I had a good one I'd print out 20 of them in nylon for anyone else in the same situation...
I want to thank tou sooooo much I took mine apart it wouldn't shift in manual mode after I saw the black lever I put it in the slot of the shifter and let's say it went on limp mode. So I watched your video here and rhe little white looking chip fell inside. I managed to pur it back and everything works Like is should thsnk you for making this video
This video is amazing, well done! I see lots of people have the problem where the shifter doesn't go into M/S, but im having a very unusual problem... my shifter goes into D from P, and then gets stuck and stays there :D will not go into N, or R... can go into M/S no problem and back to D, but then only stays there. I put into P and I can click the 'unlock' button and hear the solenoid working. I'm wondering if you have seen this problem before and might know where I should start looking? Cheers for any help in advance if you have time :)
Yo Odiviu congrats on this great video. This is the first one about repairing a bmw gear selector. Would u please let me know where to find these parts? Keep it up and thank you
@M.Ovidiu It is awesome that you got such a nice hold of electronics, wish I had a quarter of the same, lol! I have a BMW X5 Gear 4. it has the following codes Gear Selector A82C A82D A834. Do you have any suggestions on how to resolve it? Currently, it still functions without any issues most of the time.
My husband thinks you are a GENIUS….👍now he wants to know your opinion his gear selector goes into Drive , Park and Reverse but not Sport or Manuel .It’s my son’s X5 2008 E70 he is working on . Which pin in your opinion you think is broken ? Any help you can give us is greatly appreciated .
Hello, first of all they need to do a diagnose on that car to see what error it has , but the easiest and elegant way is to replace the gear selector !
Hello Ovi! My BMW E60 LCI GWS has the following problem: Sometimes the selector won't move backwards to D position. The shifter won't budge backwards normally, it is like some tab or pin or lock is keeping it from moving. The gear D can be engaged by pulling on the shifter but it feels cringy as the selector won't move normally, it only tilts like 1 millimeter. I live in Finland and the problem started when the winter came and the shifter is cold (like from 0C ... - 20C and so forth). The question is, is there a locking mechanism inside the GWS box that fails to open due to cold temperature? If the car has been sitting in a warm garage, the shifter moves normally to position D. Otherwise the selector functions normal (R, M/S, park button etc work great). The assumption is that this shifter assembly you show in the video is mechanically similar to E60 LCI one. They look the same on the outside.... Thanks in advance, I'm a big fan of your videos :) Edit: @ 4:15 you remove the magnetic potentiometers for the gear shift positon recognition from the motherboard. Is it possible that the slider in the potentiometer is somehow hung up and prevents the lever from moving normally?
E70 (2013) X5 I’ve got the same parts. It has not recovered from water damage sunroof was open and it rained a lot. I’ve opened both top of joy stick and lower computer board as I saw you did. There was water but only in The case bot not on The electric. I cleaned them anyway with QD Electric cleaner. It was working when the case was wet. But since disconnected. It has not responded to the car. No shift. I only get “shift lever malfunction” when it’s disconnected. Is there fuse for the shift lever.? Also, if I buy one from eBay, will it need to be programmed to my car?
Hi MOvidiu. I have a problem with the gearchanging on my euro 2008 e70 x5 that “nobody“ can figure out( including bmw shop and specialists), so it’s worth a shot to ask if you have encountered this problem before. When i want to shift from park or drive to reverse, the gearbox always jumps into neutral. When i push the side button and push the leaver forward again, the gearbox goes into reverse. (I have to push the gearshifter forward twice to get the gearbox into reverse). Have you encountered this before and do you have an suggestion for a solution/repair?
can you please help me ..got an X5SD E70 2009.. maybe was my fault maybe i forced or dont know what happened but now if im in manual or DS mode, when i Press P button or shut off the car, the SHIFT does not go in "home" POSITION automatically. when i got the car it worked, now is some kind of loose. Everything else works fine.. manual shifting, P R N DS..all good. can it be a problem with the GEARS inside or Some Actuator ? sorry for asking here but couldn't find any video of inside mechanism that puts the SHIFT from DS/MANUAL to HOME (P) Position! Thanks in advance MAN.
Bonjour , Super tuto !! Est ce que vous avez un cite où on pourrait se procurer la petite pièce en plastique qui se trouve au bout de la tige du pommeau.merci
Congrats Ovidiu for great video, I too have a issue with the gear selector on my X5, it doesn't move to M/S mode .. do you think it's a selector issue or is it a be transmission issue .. thanks
Salut Ovidiu, foarte tari filmuletele tale. Am si eu o problema la schimbatorul de la un x5 e70, nu pot sa il mut in Manual. Ar putea fi bucati de plastic pe acolo care il blocheaza, crezi ca ar merita sa il desfac si sa vad ce e? Multumesc.
Hello. I have a BMW F01 740d and the gear selector no longer turns the lights on regarding the drive mode - R, D, P, N... It only makes it the first time when the car starts. Any help?
Hi I have an e71 after having disassembled and then reassembled the gear selector no longer goes to P. Can you identify the problem? Thank you in advance
hello i wanted to ask about the english switch can be made a european version by swapping the housings and leaving a wide range of english on the european handle
Hi, Great video! Question, I have an e70 and the gear selector will not go into Sport mode, it still goes into drive/reverse/neutral. Can I just buy my replacement and swap out the circuit board? I know they are programmed to the car. Thank you!
Hi Ovidiu, you can fix digital led speedometer 6WB of BMW F30 ? Mine not turn on (black panel) when plugged in power. It bricked due interrupted firmware upgrade.
I Ovidiu, I have a US model X5 E70 diesel which is not allowing me change to M/S mode. The lever won't even let me move left. It drives fine in the auto mode, does this sound like the nylong part you spoke of broke?
Hi, can i ask a question? i broke the plastic pin on my e70 selector. Can the pin repleaced from e60 selector? Or is it different? I got it from wreckeres for 350$, if not usable i dont want to spend my money for nothing. Anyway, great video!
I don't know if you can find it, just something made by someone on a 3d printer or something like that ... you won't find the original in any case. if you find something, let us know too !!!
@@MOvidiu Hey Ovidiu, sadly I wasn't able to find anything. I found a gear selector on Facebook for 40.00USD and changed out the part. Kind of an expensive repair for a plastic piece thats probably worth a dollar. Ima try to carefully glue back my broken piece just to have an extra.
Found the cam that pushes it back from manual prevented it. The ribbon cable from stick to pc board how can i obtain that one? Greetings from south africa
Hello . You have to remove the aluminum part. it has no screws, it has only clamps, with a plastic spatula you can easily remove it be careful and patient
Question, I have a 2007 X5, the shifter just drops out of drive and goes into neutral. I ordered a new one and I’m wondering if you need to program it when it’s installed?? Or is it plug and play??
hello can you answer my question pls , i recently try to change the leds on my e70 gear selector but i broke the connection between the board with the led and the motherboard , e70 gear selector are expensive , can i take appart a f30 gear selector to repair mine ?
Unfortunately it is not found separately, or you build one on a 3d printer (I don't know how strong it will be) or from another one from an donor parts selector
Hello Ovidiu!! I have my the connector ribbon issue on the shifter LED display. The LED stops showing after I shift after starting the car. Please respond if that can be repaired.
Hello, it is the ribbon cable that is going inside the selector for the LEDs and parking/release switches , yes you can replace it but you need a donor selector for that!
@@MOvidiu same question. on e70, what if I just change the plastic on the spring. does it need coding? I didn't took off the battery when I replaced it. The shifter now is not responding and no fault codes on the car.
So is this what sets off the "selector lever implausible " code? My truck has this and its been bugging me alot. The shifter doesn't even fell wobbly its just popping up, makes me wanna get rid of it and never buy a bmw again, also I'm getting a auc code
Replace the selector with another one and it will work if you don't have a problem with the wiring, the AUC sensor is something trivial, it's not expensive new and most older bmws have it defective . The problem at BMW is not that they are defective, the problem is that there are not many who know how to repair and diagnose them properly
@@MOvidiu ok will look into it. It was alos giving me an rdc code i had the fron tpms/stem valves changed i hope that was it. But thanks all input is helpful and appreciated
@@connectasap same problem. without having to buy an entire assembly new or used,,,,, i just need that plastic part. did you find anyone who had them? produced them say through 3d printing?
Gangwahlschalter is in german language that means Gear selector switch , and GWS is the technical abbreviations of Gangwahlschalter , in diagnosis equipment all the module are identified by this type of abbreviations
I’ve scanned the broken one with a laser scanner gun and I’m about to make a copy out of aluminium on lathe hopefully it will work without those “windows”
@@crocoadi He trying to tell you the whole shift level assembly probably needs to be replaced that why you are getting the interlock E error. interlock same as shift
Hi. My steptronic no longer goes into manual mode, it's like it's stuck. Drive, N and Reverse behave normally. Could you identify the problem? I have a bmw f30 2012
