I do something similar, but a little simpler. I drilled about a 1" hole in the bottom of the factory bottle. From there you can just run the new cheaper def bottle hose into that cutout bottle and fill at will. It doesn't splash anywhere, and it fills quickly. I use the same bottle on my 328, as well.
Audi/VW has a hose that has the nozzle from the bottle on one end and a screw connection for the larger DEF bottle on the other. 000 012 499 is the VW part number.
Interesting and great info. A thought though, it doesn't seem necessary to cut the entire bottom of the bottom off. Unless I'm mistaken, it seems to me you could just cut a much smaller hole... one that is just enough to fit the flexible hose of the larger refill jug.
Bobby Adams this is true however the reason for using the bottles in the video is to prevent overfilling which can lead to a huge mess. BMW overfilled mine one time and I had crystallized DEF all over the engine bay.
I didn't realize there were two spots to fill the DEF fluid? The 2nd spot being the "Passive Tank" location? I've only been filling in the 1st hold at 2:05. I haven't been filling the "passive Tank" hole with the DEF fluid is this why my passive tank sensor is failing?
Thanks for sharing!! One quick question, after refilling, how did you reset the meter to get rid of the warning? Or does it go away automatically? Thanks!!
BimmerMarketPlace I just dumped 5 gallons into both tanks and the warning mileage hasn’t changed at all. Does it take time to read it’s been refilled???
