How to convert the car wiring so that the OEM Xenon/HID headlight unit can be fitted to a BMW E70 X5 that currently has halogen headlights.
There a few simple changes required in order for this to work. This video is not a how to for the physical removal and refit of the lights - there are lots of other videos you can find to show this.
I find it easier to make up two short 'converter' harnesses, also this way means the original car wiring does not have to be altered.
I also fit an LED replacement bulb into the new headlight unit to make the halo / DRL rings for a higher (whiter) colour temperature.
How Bi-Xenon lights work with the internal shutter to alter the beam pattern is also explained.
Since recording this video I have confirmed that the other 4 control wires, which are used for the headlight height adjustment, these are pin for pin the same. So pins 8,9,10 & 11 are just wired as I showed in my diagram. The halogen headlights do have the auto leveling system (in the car I had anyway), and after fitting the harness I made, the auto leveling system worked just as it did before.
I would expect that the information given in this video would also be valid for the E90 as the connectors and wiring look the same.
Part numbers I have found for the light units which might be useful:
