Totally normal due to the different injection modes that this engine has, especially: stratified, homogeneous lean, homogeneous. This noise is actually the injection high pressure, when the engine stays in idle it operates in stratified charge, around 200 bar

I have the same engine in my E92 BMW 320i and it has the same sound. It's normal this sound in this type of engines and its due to the direct injection. This "diesel" sound apears when the engine is warm. In coold start the engine sound perfect as a petrol engine but when it is warming appears this "diesel" sound and not in all situations. Some times when the engine is warm it doesn't produce this sound. For example, with the engine warm and just after start it, the sound is perfect. But after accelerate it and when the engine goes to idle the "diesel " appears again.

That's the normal sound of a 4 cylinder i have the same on my 05 320i and it sounds exactly like this

It's normal... I just bought my bmw 2009 320 coupe.. It have the same sound. For the first time I thought there is somthing wrong.. I check out many video including this.. I am sure it's normal 🙏🙏😁

Yes, its normal. This sounds is if the engine goes in stratified charge mode. Sound like diesel engine.

Yes it s normal.bmw 2.0l engine petrol and diesel engine except m47(150 and 163 bhp)..SUCk.

Thats loterally the same engine as mine, why do you have 170hp while mine has 143

This is normal. Actually normal has more lifter tick and more sound from the belt and air condition. But if you remove the engine insulation on top. And listen to the sound coming from your high pressure fuel pump. Then you rely get the impression something is about to break down. Modern cars are crap. And they sound like crap. BMW seems to lead the way in making crappy unreliable engines.

What is your fuel consumption?

Is that belt tensioner vibration normal?

timing chain stretched, guide rails broken, bits of plastic in the sump pan, oil pressure dropped and vacuum pump clogged. thank me later. But otherwise its what people call 'normal' on these engines lol
