@@lyubomirgeorgiev1465 my 2020 230xi for one. Hard to get specific info. From BMWblog: More modern BMWs have tinkered with white lighting, as white is the easiest light to distinguish and clearest to see. BMW uses white lighting in its instruments during the day, as the high contrast of white makes them easier to see in daylight. In many of the brand’s cars, those white gauges switch to red at night because white light provides such a high contrast at night that it can hurt your eyes and make going back and forth from looking at the instrument cluster to the road difficult. So BMW has been working on adjusting the brightness and illumination to make it easier to see at night.

Regarding the turn signals: the way you cancel them is by pushing them back in the way you're indicating. If you've done a full press to the right you push it right to cancel both half and full press works. It was a bit weird to get used to but it's very logical once you do. BMW should communicate this better since a lot of seasoned bmw owners doesn't know this.

@TodorKatsarski
@TodorKatsarski Год назад
I get the idea, but it's still something I don't like, because it basically overrides the fine temperature control. If I set the temperature to 22.5 I want it 22.5, and if I have that dial on top it can blow air with any temperature. It's one of the things I *really* dislike in my car. My old Alfa 147 had a dual-zone climate control and when I set the temperature to 22.5 that's what I would get. If I want the temperature a bit colder - let's say 22.0 I'd change the dial and I'd get that only for me - the driver, and the passenger would have 22.5 a originally set. With the BMW when I change the dial it changes the temperature roughly for everyone, which destroys the whole idea of "zones".
@MrMats0n
@MrMats0n Год назад
@@TodorKatsarski it's actually relative to the dialed in temperature, so if you keep it in the middle it acts like a normal automatic A/C. If you put it a little bit to the cold side and set your A/C to 21c, you'll get 20c from the top and 21c everywehere else, and if you set your A/C to 19c and don't touch the dial, you get 18c from the top and 19c elsewhere. So if you don't like the feature and would rather keep your zones seperate, just leave it in the middle. On my e70 there's hot/cold dials for both the driver and the passenger (in the infotainment system, unfortunately), so both can have their zones fully customized. It's like having 2 zone A/C for yourself, and your passenger seperately, you can get warm feet and cool face if you want.
@TodorKatsarski

@@MrMats0n I have only one dial and that's my main problem - having two separate dials - for driver and passenger would be so much nicer

Great video. While I’ve driven bmw since the early 90s back in Germany, many of these items still hold truth today. A few things I’ve learned over the years from bmw engineers is that… 1. The door lock button is in the center for security reasons as it is much harder to get an object via “break in” to push it there rather than on the driver’s side as with many cars these days. (Used to have the window controls there too, in center console where armrest is now) 2. The manual reverse gear used to work by pushing the shifter knob downward and to the direction of the gear, at least in a 1992 525 TDS I had. Doubt it changed much from back then, but that was many moons ago. Now since living here, the automatic shifting is so great, no need for manuals any more. 3. Instead of using the signal stock to cancel the signal by pushing the opposite, the cancel feature is to push in same direction as when you activated it. 4. Bonus info - the orange backlight was engineered with the fact that it is a great color with frequency to reduce fatigue to the maximum, and keep your eyes focused at night without reduction of night vision.

@mountainousterrain1704
@mountainousterrain1704 2 года назад
@@ilya4759 Your BMW is no different from any other cars. Preventive maintenance is the key. All fluids need to be changed at one point (transmission, rear and front diff, coolant, brake fluid). Don’t overlook the serpentine belt, spark plugs, air filter and cabin filter. Keep an eye on coolant and oil leaks. Misfires are usually a faulty coil. All of those are easy to do if you are mechanically inclined, with the right tools and some patience (plenty of tutorials on RU-vid). Brake pads and rotors are also relatively easy to do. The harder stuff is transfer case fluid (because it’s difficult to access) or replacing a wheel bearing.

@mountainousterrain1704

@@ilya4759 As Justin mentioned in his video, get the Carly app. You will be able to scan your car, do service reset and much more. Some shops will charge you $50-75 just to run a scan, so the app will pay for itself in no time. A scan will tell you if you have a misfire or something. The spark plugs service interval on 328i and 428i is 55,000km. Changing plugs and ignition coils on your 2L turbo is super easy, make sure you have the right thin wall plug socket (FCP Euro or Amazon)… and don’t over torque otherwise it’s going to be a very bad day (get a torque wrench to be on the safe side).

Love the video, I definitely agree with your points and choice of features. I've owned multiple e chassis now and currently have an e36 M3, e90 330i, and an e70 X5. One of the most annoying features with the X5 is PDC sensors. Everytime you get close to something and you're going backward, it beeps. But it also keeps beeping for about 30 seconds even after you put the car in park or drive, meaning, once you park and still have the car on, the car is constantly still beeping until you turn it off. Super annoying. Also, windsheild wipers. I've found that if you buy anything other than OE or OEM or RainX, the clip mechanism of other brands doesn't stay on well. There have been multiple times when I've bought Michellin wipers and they've almost fallen off when I turn on the wipers. If they fell off, that would have lead to the metal wiper hanger scratching your glass. Yikes. With the turn signals, F31 MSport is right but also, it won't take long to become accustomed to just barely tapping the stalk to cancel the turn signal. Cool feature about Carly and BimmerCode, you can code the temporary turn signal to flash 5 times which I think is long enough for anything anyways. You'll never have to fully turn the turn signals on again lol.

When I bought my first BMW in 1991 (318is e30) I was astonished by the overall quality of the car, especially the build and materials used. The turn signal quirk was one of the first things I noticed. All the driver controls were oriented towards the driver. This was a first for a non exotic and was a big deal at the time. The battery was in the back as well, which was something you found mostly in Italian cars. The tool kit attached to the trunk lid was another feature that distinguished BMW from other cars. the adjustment for front air seems not to be working for me (X5 F15 2016). Don't know the reason for that, after refilling of AC this is no more that useful suddenly

Ahhh. My first BMW was a 1998 E39 5-series (manual) which I still have. I have a dipstick, indicators where the stalk stays in the position you push it to (no 3 flashes for lane changes), no battery coding, a harsh buzzing as the warning sound and a full sized spare in the boot/trunk. It's a fabulous car to own since I've had it for 19 years but I wouldn't want to buy a car as old as that now. I also have a newer 1-series with everything you describe. The gong sound is truly awful and Chinese-like. I would recommend BMWs all day long as mine have always been very reliable but they do get serviced every 2000 miles since I don't do the milage any more, I still do them yearly. Regular oil changes are absolutely essential, not only for BMWs but for any car and is the single most important thing you can do to keep your car reliable. Regularly change the oil and warn the engine with gentle driving and they will go on forever, providing there isn't an existing issue. Great interesting and informative video though, thanks.

Gentle driving? They were not made for that. I have 3 with high miles and no major issues and they see full throttle every drive ☝🏻

@@indecent0079 You're probably right. I drive it gently most of the time and when it counts e.g., cold starting. It does get an occasion brisk outing but it never gets caned. 😄

Got an M4 (2018 Automatic) and what was a big adjustment was the DCT. Still getting the hang of it but I love this car so much!

My first 3 bmws were all 80’s bmw e30s surprisingly enough much of the technology included in the car from that time period was way ahead of its time and suprises many people. auto windows, auto sunroof, fuel economy gauge, impressive all wheel drive, dimmable interior lighting, premium Harmon Kardon sound, heated seats, mirror map lights, oil check/ service light, overhead indicator check lamps for trouble codes it was shockingly impressive, so impressive I decided to invest in a newer model so I can do more fun projects and be able to down my other cars for maintenance. I bought a 2011 128i and it was a n51 sulev which actually is insanely expensive to deal with because of the sulev components. word of advice for anyone looking at buying a sulev n51 Powerplant bmw do not buy it unless you live in an emissions/ smog state then there is a 15 year 150k mile warranty applied to sulev components. To my dismay I have had a lot of trouble with my 1 series and spent a lot of time and money troubleshooting and fixing these problems, one thing I will say impressed me is that I had no idea about DTC (Dynamic Traction Control). In my car during the winter I was driving a rear wheel drive car and it was challenging until I learned more about the car and used DTC in combination with siped and studded Firestone winter force tires. DTC made all the difference in the characteristics and performance of driving in challenging winter snow and ice. My vehicle had only aux and CD options for music but I had no idea about being able to program my phone in Bluetooth for hands free calls which was amazing. I also learned about how to use the key fob to roll all my windows down and back up which was a super cool! But hidden feature. Great video with lots of good info thank you!

One of the first things that caught me off guard is when you’re in eco pro, and you go over 30mph and less than 50mph, and u take ur foot off the gas, the car automatically goes on neutral to save gas. It took me some time to get used to it 😂

This is called the sail mode

In Germany it does that at every speed I believe. Sail mode also works at 150mph

You can disable the cruise mode. One of the reason why the gear box got trashed.

Purchased my first 2015 535i. Love this car even though it's 8 years old, it runs great . I bought the car with 74,000 miles. No issues whatsoever. I just figured out how to automatically let the rear window shade down, which is a plus

I have a tuned manual m140i and although it probably shouldn't suprise me, it did suprise me how easy it was to go sideways. All about the smiles per gallon!
